About the 2024 Inductees, ChrisD wrote:
Yeah I think we're overestimating Mariah's chances, which is why I am portending that the nomcom gives her one more try, pushed by whomever her internal advocate is (maybe Questlove or Danyel Smith), while the rest sets her up for failure again, either by putting Lauryn Hill or Cyndi Lauper or both on the same ballot; and if or when she doesn't get it, then they keep her off to side door her in a few years when she turns 60. Because when the Beyonces and Taylors become eligible, then she'll be old news.

Actually I see a lot of overlap between Mariah and Diana. Mariah is kind of like a modern day Diana Ross in the 80's. The apex diva veteran who's on a lateral (but flat) career path in her 50's, but who pops up in broader culture from time to time. In the 80's Diana would host award shows and manage sparse top 40 hits. Mariah has Christmas all to herself, and has had a few songs trending on TikTok.

I think most people thought Diana was a slam dunk winner of the Traditional Pop Vocal Album last year, giving her her first competitive Grammy, but they ended up giving it to their evergreen winner Michael Buble. It's a shame that people are holding grudges against an octogenarian???

Their perception has to be something about their career-focused personal relationships with their svengalis. Also their hyper femme presentation.

About the 2024 Inductees, Timothy Pernell wrote:
Alan Light recently said the top 8 inductees of this class had far more votes than the 7 who didn't get in. Meaning acts like Mariah and Sade may have a harder time getting in looking forward. It's likely Mariah does have enemies in the industry that were like "nah". Wouldn't surprise me. Could also explain that, despite her accolades, why Diana has never been considered for even a nomination.

If anything, New Edition should get in. Bobby peaked way too early in his solo career to seriously be considered.

Robert,

Better voice than Aretha?!

LMFAO!!!

I get it: Diana deserves induction blah blah blah but don't bring down one legendary woman to boost another. Good Lord.
