Gorillaz will make it in. not only is their music constantly changing and inventive, but how many other people can pull off a animated band and get as much success as they did? it would be a great representation if they got in

Ever since Humanz/Now Now, Gorillaz have grown more popular over time. Maybe they'll get nominated?

Spotify: Most Streamed Albums of 2001

Gorillaz’s self titled album provided some nice fresh air in 2001, with a somehow surprising success, marking Damon Albarn’s second big project after Blur.

Quite predictably, this debut album was most successful in the UK where it peaked at number 3 and went on selling enough to reach triple platinum status as per the BPI.

It also had very solid charts stats in other parts of the world, even if it failed to make number 1 in any major country, and a number of platinum awards in several countries.

Spotify’s modern stats prove that this album is far from forgotten and, leaded by the track Clint Eastwood (which was the first and biggest single of this era), it has maintained a very strong level of popularity.

Out of 450 million streams across the music platform, more than 253 million come from this song, although the whole of it is fairly big.

So will the characters get in or just Damon?

@ FHD

You could ask the same thing about Dethklok. Technically, the actual band members would be added when they get in at some point other than Damon. Then again, the Simpsons is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

If this induction were to happen, you would induct both Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett since they both created Gorillaz. Still, I would much prefer a Blur induction to happen first.

Cant wait to see them among other greats. They deserve it!

I liked blur. For which the lead singer is from. They put a middle finger to the industry but not showing there faces until later . Even in music videos and on stage
They show that British music is alive and will and will always be

Gorillaz, modern innovative music.

I would love to see the Gorillaz nominated this year, in their first year of eligibility. Such a major part of my childhood since I was born in 1995. Demon Days is an amazing album.

I believe either them or Linkin Park will be the first bands from the 21st century to be inducted in the Rock Hall

The only question is who gets inducted for them? The Rock Hall has never had to address fictional characters before.

Are they going to induct Damon Albarn and David Hewlett for creating them? How will they perform at the ceremony? Once they address those logistical problems, they should be fine.

Dr. W: I can see the following happening:

For the inductees: There's no question Albarn and Hewlett are getting inducted. In all likelihood, Cass Browne would also get inducted. I know Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead songwriter) is the only man to be inducted as part of a band where they were not a performer, but Browne's work was downright important towards establishing the band and its early mythos as well as its rise in the mid 00s and without Jamie Hewlett, there is no Gorillaz (literally - when Albarn and Hewlett fell out, Gorillaz broke up, and when they reconciled, they started right back up again). Miho Hatori, Roses Gabor, and Del tha Funky Homosapien would likely be snubbed because the former was a non-performing voice while the latter two were on a small handful of songs combined (even though those run through some of their most notable songs).

As for the virtual band itself, I can see this going both ways. On one hand, they probably want to just induct Albarn, Hewlett, and Browne to keep the prestige, but on another hand? The Rock Hall is considered a bit stuffy and industry, and they would love the kind of press that would be generated if they actually inducted the fictional members even if it's kind of a tongue-in-cheek process simply because it shows they're not narrow-minded on that. What's more, Gorillaz is just not known as an Albarn solo project, even if there's some truth in it. My bet is they make a fictional or "mascot" wing where they induct them (along with other famous logos of bands, such as the Rolling Stone tongue and lips or the Grateful Dead skull), but purely as an asterisk. If that's what happens, 2D, Noodle, Murdoc, and Russel get inducted. Cyborg Noodle, Del, and (it pains me to say) Ace would be snubbed in that regard.

When they get to the ceremony, Albarn, Hewlett, and Browne accept at first, then they throw it to a created video for the band themselves accepting induction in a mock-up of the venue. The band then, in an original video, performs one of their hits (lets say Clint Eastwood) and then it swings back to Albarn and some guests (they can easily get these - the band is pretty influential enough for it) who then perform Feel Good Inc. That's how I imagine it in my head.

Dr. W. they will be addressed by them not being inducted.

Well its 2026
I'm gonna say The Mountain stands up there among the other essential albums and The Manifesto sounds like I've been listening to it all my life.
Are we healing
