INXS is the ultimate borderline RRHOF candidate. Had the smash CD the Committee likes in KICK.So many hits Need You Tonight,New Sensation,& my FAV Never Tear Us Apart.

No question Michael Hutchence one of the greatest singers & frontmen of the 80's. They were on a Hall of Fame path when Hutchence died mysteriously by hanging himself or accident. It really was a hole INXS could not replace.

Give INXS credit for rotating singers & working hard to soldier on without Hutchence. They even had a Rock Star INXS reality show & selected JD Fortune as their new singer.

I'm leaning towards their induction for creating interesting rock music with a great sax man & Hutchence was a undeniable singing talent. KING

Was planning a trip to the RockandRoll Hall of Fame - but am rethinking the trip since I found out INXS isn't included. They are my best memories of my youth and the greatest concerts I've ever seen. Get it together nominating committee and get them in!

I don't know how this group has not been inducted to the hall of fame. They were part of the pioneers, in MTV videos from the start. I recall the one thing in the original rotation. their music was fresh and were different from the rest. They had a vibe that carried into the following decade. The genius of Andrew Farris' music and the lyric of Michael Hutchence is a testament to the fact their music is still played on web stations like Pandora and spotify. they should be inducted and Michael's daughter should be there to accept the award for her late father.

Other than Ac/dc inxs is the biggest band out of Australia. They were one of the biggest bands of the 80's. But people only think of the rock in the 80's. They have so many #1 hits it's ridiculous why they aren't in.

Well, another year, another INXS SNUB!!!! Today marks the 29th anniversary of the album KICK release... There are more songs on that SINGLE album that were Top HITS and are better (still today) than half of the "music" production of most of 2017's current nominations...Chic, really?!?!?

Posted by Caroline on Thursday, 10/20/2016 @ 16:58pm

On INXS: I'm going to try and squeeze INXS onto my Nomination List 2017-2018. Examining their discography again, I thought they made some Classic songs. Never Tear Us Apart gets better with every listen. Perfect song! Beautiful Girl is a King FAV. Plus the other KICK songs New Sensation, What You Need,KICK,Devil Inside. I would guess KICK would be like Queensryche's Empire. It's difficult to

I'm not too sure whether they will get in, compared to other 80s acts.

But, for selfish reasons, they should at least get in for being Australian. Too many Americans, British, etc, are in there. People down under exist, y'know!

This band was excellent. Better than some of the inductees. If Yes or the Beastie Boys can get in, there’s no reason why INXS shouldn’t be in next year.

Once the HOF gets to the Cure, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode, then that should be enough for them to pick up INXS. Talking Heads, the Pretenders, the Clash, Blondie, R.E.M, U2, and most recently, the Cars are in.

I can picture the members from those bands to vote for these guys. And since Bono was friends with Michael, he’s the right guy to do an induction speech.

Pretty much hard to predict but leaning around no since they seem overshadowed by their counterparts in the same era. People will cite names on what made the 80s new wave/post punk like U2, The Police, Clash, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, New Order, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Talking Heads, REM and the Cars before they utter INXS.

Posted by jaykay on Friday, 05/11/2018 @ 15:33pm

INXS was quite big back in the 80's and early 70's and won a lot of VMA's. I guess the real reason why they're not in the HOF yet is when they decided to continue after Michael's death, that marked the band's decline and let's not forget about their cringy American Idol-like reality show.

But that doesn't mean they'll never get in. After all, they were a big staple of new wave and 80's alternative. I could see it a few years from now after Duran Duran, the Cure, and Depeche Mode.

If they're gonna get a nomination this year, they'll get a lot of support from the inductees.

Members from the Beatles, the Stones, Rush, Yes, Journey, the Cars, U2, Blondie, Talking Heads, the Pretenders, Green Day, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, AC/DC, the Bee Gees, the Clash, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the Beastie Boys, and more would easily vote for them not only because of their musical styles, but also how technical they were, they're Australian, and Michael was one too.

INXS would have fit in perfectly with the 2018 inductees: Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Posted by Roy on Tuesday, 12/25/2018 @ 22:22pm

INXS strikes me as a really underrated band. I'm surprised they're not talked about as a potential inductee, given their long string of hits. They seem to have the same qualifications as Def Leppard or Bon Jovi, for example.

If Duran Duran are potentially on the inductee list for 2020, then INXS should stand along them as well. It's been a long time coming for this them.
INXS was the hardest working band of their era, paving the way for other Australian bands to make their mark on the US market as well.

Michael Hutchence & INXS' musical legacies both deserves this! :-)

Michael Hutchence, a phenomenally talented singer, songwriter, and frontman of the band INXS. Moreover, sultry dynamic, and mesmerizing frontman. Michael had the sex appeal and charm of fabulous frontmen of the likes of Jim Morrison and Robert Plant when he was fronting Led Zeppelin! Their endeavors in music should be rewarded and thereby, be inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame in 2020!

Posted by L.A. Gibson on Sunday, 12/29/2019 @ 10:24am

INXS were international superstars in late 80s early 90s, whose songs still play daily on radio all over the world.
It's inconceivable that the creators of Never tear us apart etc are not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Michael Hutchence was arguably the finest frontman of his generation.

INXS deserves it. They were amazing and the voice of Michael Hutchence was unique, or you are giving this opportunity only to american and english bands?!!!!! It looks like that!!! Anybody else are excluded even if they are good musicians, this is not fair!

INXS absolutely belongs in the Rock Hall of Fame! The music of INXS stands the test of time.
Their Wembley show on 7-13-91 before 74,000 fans is a shining example of their musical excellence on stage.
Michael Hutchence was a man ahead of his time. He was writing/singing about diversity & inclusion before diversity became the "buzz word" it is today. His lyrics & themes are still very relevant today.

Sorry, but I don't see the appeal of this band. Sterile 80s arena rock with a frontman who seemed to care more about image than music. Not for me thanks.

They will get inducted for sure, most likely as scheduled, in the year 2026. I look forward to watching them get it. Although John can't play guitar anymore, they could still rock out a few great INXS classics with the rest of the all star musicians that year.

Why can't Jon play guitar anymore?

It's a shame that a band that was known to be an influential band vs. being influenced isn't recognized more in the music world. Their music was a mix of all different genres from funk, R & B to Rock and Pop. Members in the Hall of Fame have gone on record saying that certain songs of theirs were influenced by INXS. Groups like Smashing Pumpkins would play their songs at their concerts back in the day... so one could say that they influenced grunge bands too. And don't forget that they had one of the best front men ever to be on stage. Even Bono said in an interview that he was jealous of Michael's presence on stage. It's a travesty that we have wait this long for this long overdue induction.

A Duran Duran nomination and Induction sure would open it up for INXS. I give INXS credit for trudging on losing a frontman and singer of Hutchence's talent. Never Tear Us Apart is a masterpiece that will never be topped. They really crafted outstanding songs. Many infectious in nature. Need You Tonight, New Sensation, What You Need they were big hits. For a time in 1986 and 1987, INXS was 1 of the best and hottest bands in the world. The KICK album is a Classic album. No question about it. They should be inducted hopefully soon. KING

KING QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you think INXS should have called it quits after Michael Hutchence death as INXS and re-invented themselves with a new band name & style? KING

Posted by KING on Tuesday, 02/9/2021 @ 07:31am

They did call it quits for a little while before they did Rock Star:INXS. It would've been interesting to see what they would've done if they chose to do that.

Posted by Greg F on Tuesday, 02/9/2021 @ 09:20am

KING, maybe if all they were looking for was a Hall induction some day, then maybe they should have. However, we're talking about real people who have a job & need to do their thing, etc.

I'm fine with them continuing on.

I don't even know if Micael wrote the majority of their music...

Posted by Paul in KY on Tuesday, 02/9/2021 @ 15:17pm

Way overdue and I'm pissed! Is the RRHOF that political to snub one of the top super bands? Their music stands the test of time and these talented guys deserve to be nominated.

INXS deserves to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame! I love not only Michael's singing but also the guitar work of Tim, Kirk and Andrew very much. They are almost like a triple rhythm guitar band :) I can picture the band performing "What You Need" and "Don't Change" at the Induction ceremony along with pieces of memorabilia, outfits, gear, etc in Cleveland'a good old Rock Hall

Posted by Sammy on Friday, 02/12/2021 @ 22:52pm

Induction in the hall of fame is long overdue! INXS have a huge legacy with 2 decades of original music & stadium concert performances. Albums from all stages of their career are still great to listen too.

Posted by karina on Monday, 02/15/2021 @ 10:06am

Because of the fact this greatly under-appreciated band has been inexcusably ignored by the RRHOF, when they are inducted, it would be an insult. Without Hutch present, I hope they don't even bother showing up. The RRHOF doesn't deserve them. INXS FOREVER!

They should be in. Great songs for over a decade, an excellent album in Listen Like Thieves, and a brilliant one in Kick.

Yes, rheir momentum stalled in the early 90s; the grunge/alternative wave did that to a lot of 80s bands. And their momentum crashed when Michael died.

But their reputation as a rousing, rocking band live was well-known, and why the criticism for having a charismatic front man?

To me , the HOF is for great artists, and if you're also popular, even better.

They should be in.

Saw them in April 83 in SF Bay Area at the Warfield . Fantastic live band and great catalog of music. Yes they are deserving of induction but looking at some more recent inductees I really wonder if they will get in. The HOF is a joke, just too many deserving that are overlooked…

INXS deserves to be inducted because they had a style that was comprised of Rock punk new wave, pop and blue eyed soul. They have influenced other artist like Kings of Leon,The Killers Maroon5. Their music is now part of a program Euphoria. They had a one of kind frontman in Michael Hutchence. Who not only wrote some of the best music made in the 80's and 90s. They are long over due. They deserve to be in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. #Honouring Michael Hutchence of INXS.

I think the Hall will follow the same foreign new wave/post punk induction that seemed to catch on finally with the Cure in 2019 and the Depeche Mode in 2020. Duran Duran has a high chance this year to get in. After that it will be The Smiths, New Order/Joy Division, and INXS to round out part of the modern rock of the 80s category

Jon was the drummer. His oldest brother Tim is who played guitar. Personally, I think they should've left INXS go after Michael's death, and renamed the band. Unfortunately, the only person who could make it as a frontman in INXS was Jon Stevens. And he wanted a solo career. And to the person who said Michael Hutchence wasn't a class act because he killed himself...better hope you're never judged for one incident that's totally out of character for you. Michael was attacked and left a mentally ill man, who coped far longer than you would've. Please...read about the man before you pass judgement. He wasn't perfect, none of us are, but he was about as close to pure humanity as you'd ever find.

Chrissie...you are 100% correct. Michael had a TBI (traumatic brain injury) since 1994 and had lost his sense of smell among other things. Do your research folks. He possessed an abundance of talent and even more compassion.

The Hall needs more Australians, all there is are Bee Gees and AC/DC, and if the easybeats can't make it (seems prime for a singles category snub a La the kingsmen and troggs) then INXS are absolutely next, they'll be in sooner rather than later no doubt, probably within the next year or 2

I am really sad that INXS isn't going to be in the R&R Hall of Fame this year! What are they waiting for? It's an insult they haven't already been inducted. They had so many iconic songs. Michael was a brilliant song writer. He was a legendary front man. They whole band were
still are musical geniuses . As fan of music and R&R I am seriously fed up how disrespectful this is to one of the best bands of all time. I still listen to their music all the time. They were so special so unique so talented. I am also shocked to see Elegantly Wasted their last album with Michael isn't even mentioned? Another need to fix that... That had since it's my favorite songs. Beautiful music Beautiful musicians. They need to be treated as such! RIP Michael

They were an amazing live act, brilliant musicians, original and unique songwriting from Michael and Andrew and their music is as fresh today as it was then. Michael was the most outstanding frontman of all time. The richly deserve to be nominated and inducted!

I disagree about the headliner scoring posted at the beginning of this article. For the love of god they sold out Wembley.

These guys were one of the hardest working bands. Started touring and recording pretty much non stop since late 1970's through their sad ending.

Alternative, soulful, rock / pop. A sound of their own. With so many hit songs, you can't count them all.

Even their weaker albums were packed with great music.

Their work ethic, song writing, live shows, total album sales, lead front man, global popularity put INXS in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Posted by Jeremy on Wednesday, 11/15/2023 @ 19:10pm

INXS should be included in the rock hall. Massive album sales, 7 billboard top 10 songs, huge impact on fellow musicians and popular culture. INXS is one of the biggest new wave band that has not been recognized by the rock hall.

Posted by chasingwildcat on Monday, 12/25/2023 @ 21:11pm

Do I think they belong, yes. they remain my favorite. Michael is a rock god, and my favorite frontman ever. they never wrote a bad song until he died. honestly the only reason I would say it shouldn't happen is the fiasco of rockstar inxs. that was a joke, and the album to come from it was a dumpster fire. you cannot replace Michael. it would be like the rolling stones saying 'no we don't need mick' WTF! it's absolutely a mark on an otherwise stellar career. I wish michael could go in and leave the others out if I'm honest. He was a poet, a lyrical genius, and the best performer/vocalist live I have ever seen.
