The greatest musician in popular and Rock and Roll History with one of the greatest voices whom every musician wants to work with is still not inducted. Utterly Absurd. Posted by Larry on Wednesday, 02/19/2014 @ 06:00am |
I'll admit to liking a lot of what Winwood has done, so don't consider this a slight here. Posted by Cheesecrop on Wednesday, 02/19/2014 @ 06:09am |
Winwood, one of the greatest voices, musicians ... what bias prevents RRHOF from induction? Also, Warren Zevon and no Chaka Khan?!!! And Karen Carpenter-- voice (alone) not to mention Streisand. Is it ROCK? Is popular music completely to be disdained? Don't the accomplishments and the impact on music-- sound, influences-- ineffable talent as a musician and vocalist worthy exceptions and considerations? The man's got enough crony connections, but he hasn't been nominated since before Traffic got inducted. But between J. Geils Band and those predicting Sting, not to mention Chic... cronyism is pretty heavy already in our predictions. It wouldn't be totally surprising, but given who else appears to be more forefront on the docket right now, it'd be somewhat of a surprise. Posted by Philip on Saturday, 09/19/2015 @ 15:55pm |
I agree with Philip and King. He may turn out to be a surprise this year. Winwood hasn't had very much media attention in a long time. I'm sure there are plenty of fans of his on the board and committee. I mean who can forget his vocals with the Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith? Solo career was so-so. I wouldn't complain if he got in soon. Posted by Jason Voigt on Saturday, 09/19/2015 @ 17:09pm |
Hoping Steve Winwood could have snuck onto 2015 RRHOF nominees list but already in with Traffic. This ballot is so strong can't argue with it. I can see Stevie Nicks & Steve Winwood as 2x nominees and inductees someday. I thought Higher Love was quite brilliant. Remember Chaka Kahn was in that video. I think Steve Winwood is a musician's musician. He will be 70 something and still playing. That's good for music fans. KING Posted by KING on Friday, 10/16/2015 @ 23:09pm |

Saw Steve Winwood perform last night in St. Louis. His daughter, Lilly, opened for him and provided backing vocals on some of his songs. (Not too bad looking, I must say ;) ) The show was great, even though my only complaint was he didn't do very much of his solo work. But Steve did cover all the bases, doing songs from his Spencer Davis, Blind Faith and Traffic days. He even got a standing ovation for a few of them. Something about the man who doesn't age, ha ha. Glad I got to add another rock legend to my 'seen' list. Posted by Jason Voigt on Thursday, 03/1/2018 @ 23:25pm |
Glad you saw him, Jason! Also glad he did alot of his songs from the glory years. Posted by Paul in KY on Friday, 03/2/2018 @ 09:52am |
Steve Winwood incredible longevity and talent stretches 55 years. When Winwood started out JFK, Malcolm X, RFK, Martin Luther King and others were still alive. He's a remarkable guitarist, keyboardist, singer as a soloist and in Blind Faith, Spencer Davis Group, Traffic. When you are comparing and looking at possible 2x inductees, Winwood deserves to be next in line. Phil Collins and Sting make good 2x inductees but I would like to see Winwood next. He's a little bit older and I think it's his time. Like Joan Baez or Stevie Nicks, once he's placed on the ballot again he should fly through to induction. Winwood was nominated many years ago but will be easily inducted as many Prog acts and other rock and roll groups have been inducted since Winwood's nomination. What do you feel about a 2nd induction 4 Steve Winwood? KING Posted by KING on Friday, 01/4/2019 @ 05:40am |
I agree with you, KING, on Steve Winwood. He was and is such a major talent in the rock world. But do you count his contributions to the multiple bands he has been in or fronted, or just his solo career and works. Which is all very, very good, and maybe bordering on greatness, but I feel as far as solo works, Phil Collins or Tina Turner would have a considerable edge there.. Steve Winwood should be the next 3-time inductee behind Eric Clapton, and maybe 4-time. Posted by Roy on Tuesday, 01/22/2019 @ 08:54am |
NOT happening! Posted by KXB on Tuesday, 01/22/2019 @ 10:03am |
Phil Collins, Steve Winwood, Sting any of the 3 could be on the ballot in the 2019-2020 cycle. I'm leaning towards Steve Winwood. He's been around since 1963 making quality music in his trademark tenor. Mr. Winwood has been around forever in groups or solo and also contributing in session work. My guess Steve Winwood will be nominated and inducted this cycle. Most of the HOFers would vote for him. KING Posted by KING on Tuesday, 01/22/2019 @ 13:46pm |
Eh, the only reason Steve Winwood was ever nominated was because the committe wasn't sure Traffic would get in (they are a borderline inductee at best). So the thought process was surely that a Winwood induction would cover his ENTIRE career. I highly doubt anybody thought his solo career alone was worthy or that many really do today. Posted by Casper on Tuesday, 01/22/2019 @ 17:50pm |
A solo induction of Winwood covering all that ground, thinking about it more, would have made a lot more sense than inducting Traffic. Winwood would have also made for a really, really phenomenal Musical Excellence inductee. Posted by Casper on Tuesday, 01/22/2019 @ 17:51pm |

That Steve Winwood has not been inducted as an individual does not reflect badly on him at all. It does, however, call into serious question the judgement of folks at the so-called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Until this is rectified they are proving themselves to be nothing but a bunch of pretentious gasbags........ Posted by Mark Mitschow on Wednesday, 03/25/2020 @ 21:37pm |
If you replaced all the 'Valeries' with extra 'Call on mes' so any men can think about any past love, and not just men who had a past love named Valerie, this is what Steve Winwood's song would have looked like if it were called Call On Me: Posted by Roy on Saturday, 09/19/2020 @ 17:22pm |
Steve Winwood, as a solo artist, is one of the true r&r stars that has been exceptionally creative and coherent in producing good music, amid all the commercial crap produced in the 80´s and 90´s. He has kept good music up in the front and has influenced numerous musicians. It is obvious he should be inducted as a solo artist. Posted by Francisco on Friday, 02/5/2021 @ 15:58pm |

It's sad Steve Winwood hasn't been inducted years ago. I think many British artists have gotten screwed. Posted by KBGanley on Wednesday, 11/15/2023 @ 18:58pm |
KBGanley, Steve Winwood isn't in as a soloist (and the Spencer Davis Group wasn't inducted either), but he was inducted with Traffic. Posted by Joe S. on Friday, 11/17/2023 @ 02:17am |
