On the 2018 Nominees And Future Inductees. I really like the depth of diversity on the ballot. Wish there was Bad Company, Def Leppard, and Stevie Nicks on the ballot. Surprised no Soundgarden after Mr. Cornell's death. I really like Judas Priest's chances of induction. They should pick up plenty of votes from the hard rock and metal RRHOFers. Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, KISS, Metallica, etc. Bill G. was right about R&B and the Nom Com nominating groups and artists that have little chance at induction. Groups like The Marvelettes and The Spinners were making some traction only to be replaced by Rufus/Chaka Khan The Meters etc. The women choices are interesting. No Janet Jackson, No Pat Benatar, No Stevie Nicks. I thought at least 2 would be on there. Moody Blues appears to be one of the most certain inductees. If I were to pick 6 inductees, I'd choose the Quick 5: 1.Bon Jovi 2.Judas Priest 3.Moody Blues 4.Radiohead 5.The Eurythmics 6.LLCoolJ. It's possible The Cars will get squeezed out again. What a shame! Link Wray & The Zombies won't get enough votes but could be placed in the Musical Excellence banner. J.Geils Band has been forced fed to us again. In some regards, I hope J. Geils Band is inducted because they are holding up Bad Company and Johnny Winter's nomination I would suppose. Depeche Mode has some strong support on the Nom Com. My Big Star pick crashed and burned but so did many of those who picked Warren Zevon. Dire Straits surprised me a little since they haven't put out any new material since the mid 1990's. No Glen Campbell or Willie Nelson. Need a country artist 1 of these years. Looks like they Nom Com took Alex Voltaire's Nominees list and nodded, "This looks pretty good. We'll use this." I was right on 8 nominees but I know some have plenty more right. Interesting slate of nominees. BIG fan of these larger ballots. KING Posted by KING on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 05:01am |

Wow. The announcement of the 2018 Rock Hall of Fame nominees has already happened. I read last nite on a post by richie that the Ballot was leaked. I thought it was a joke or a mistake. It was all over the internet this morning so I knew it was true. I need to say first that it is my proud pleasure to welcome the Moody Blues as a nominee to the Rock Hall of Fame. I have predicted them for about 10 years at this point. Finally. I too really like the depth of diversity on the ballot. I am rather shocked that Janet Jackson, Carole King and the Spinners did not make the ballot this year. I predicted 6 acts correctly. I predicted Bon Jovi, The Cars, J Geils Band, The Meters, Moody Blues and Radiohead. Posted by Ben on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 08:46am |
They nominated Sister Rosetta Tharpe to see what would happen. She is a legitimate early influence. She is definitely going to be inducted in the Early Influence category in 2018! It's a game the Rock Hall is playing. Posted by Roy on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 09:00am |

I will have to mull over this one. I can say that I will pass on Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I recall she was prominent in the 1940's when my 85 year old Dad was very young. Roy made a great point that she is a legitimate early influence. I was considering predicting Nina Simone the way Joan Baez was inducted. She fits in better in Musical excellence. There are other mellow melodic acts that could be inducted. Kate Bush comes to mind or perhaps the Zombies. The shoe ins are the Moody Blues and maybe Bon Jovi. I will think this over. Think it is a travesty that Marvalettes or Spinners not even nominated. Posted by Paul in KY on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 14:57pm |
Bill G, you are being a bit ridiculous. Bringing in Trump because, yeah, Trump's real popular in entertainment circles and on the pages of Rolling Stone. Come on. Overall, I think the Hall has done well with black artists that had a clear connection with rock and roll. Most of the uninducted artists you listed are definitely worthy. But you could say there is a great prejudice against metal music as well (the first ever nomination of Judas Priest? No nominations for Motorhead or Iron Maiden?) So there are, as always, holes. Some egregious. Posted by Dezmond on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 15:04pm |
Actually I think Bill G has a very good point. Is it really that much effort to these people to give a shoutout to someone like The Spinners, Janet Jackson, John Coltrane, Whitney Houston and The Marvelettes especially over unworthy nominees like The Zombies and The J. Geils Band? I don't think so and neither does he! Posted by Nicky Joe on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 15:23pm |
****NOMINATED BUT NOT INDUCTED**** Posted by Bill G. on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 15:38pm |
Bill, The Dramatics or The Whispers wouldn’t stand a chance on a ballot like this either, considering that it already has been proven difficult to get Janet Jackson inducted. Let’s be honest, of all the artists you mentioned, I’d say only The Commodores would be popular enough to reach the top 6 on the current ballot. Posted by The_Claw on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 15:38pm |
One thing I'd like to add is, this is not really a competitive ballot. I see some of the same ol' names like MC5, The Meters, the Zombies and the J. Geils Band. What will it exactly take to get them in? These are groups that have been nominated at least three times. Will they join the (what I call) 'Forgotten Field', which is the company of Mary Wells, Chuck Willis and Ben E. King? Posted by Jason Voigt on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 15:51pm |
Why? Baez didn’t have a clear rock connection either (the early 1960s folk movement presented itself even as an alternative to rock n roll, most even looked down on it). And Simone has loads of respect in the music world, probably even the most of anyone on this ballot. IMO, she is very close to a safe bet for induction. Posted by The_Claw on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:01pm |
As, I have said before , R&B artists with the greatest possible chance for induction have been either removed from the ballot, or not inducted at all, while 2nd and 3rd tier R&B acts that the HoF knows that the voters defintely WON'T induct keep showing up on the ballot year after year. Posted by Bill G. on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:15pm |
As far as the R&B question goes, I think most of it has something to do with this new, blooming institution called the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame. Its history, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's, is parallel. According to its wiki page, the R&B HOF was founded in 2010. So far, they have inducted a wide range of artists, even those that didn't perform (like Al Sharpton). They don't even have a permanent museum as of yet. Posted by Jason Voigt on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:31pm |
Now wait a minute. Last year Joan Baez was nominated along with Classic Rock like the Cars,ELO, Journey,Steppenwolf and Yes and also there was Jane's Addiction and Pearl Jam that were considered among many others. Joan Baez was inducted nonetheless. I have not decided on my inductee list yet. I read up on Nina Simone. Those like Elton John, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Sade and Van Morrison have cited Simone as important for their upbringing along with many many others. I am not saying I am predicting Nina Simone as one of the inductees but if Joan Baez can be inducted so can Nina Simone. Case in point in the same year that Guns n Roses, Beastie Boys and the RH Chili Peppers were inducted so was Laura Nyro. She is not too connected to Rock either except as a songwriter somewhat. The Hall does that. Someone opposite in style to the Rock and Rap. I agree with the Claw. Posted by Ben on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:36pm |
Here's some predictions. Posted by Nicky Joe on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:37pm |
I made my predictions earlier this AM but it seems that some logjams could be broken especially in hard rock and metal. Bon Jovi & Judas Priest induction opens it up for Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. The Eurythmics are probably the Wild Card. Annie & Dave are well-respected artists and cross-pollinated musically with some real legends. I was hoping Depeche Mode would help break the 80's alternative log jam as The Cure & The Smiths still waiting. This is a strong ballot though. Moody Blues should be inducted. Some members have downplayed induction but when they receive the call...There will probably be some tears and some good memories shared. What an important year for The Cars! There are some big groups next 5 years ready for induction. Alice In Chains, Black Crowes, Counting Crows, DMB, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots etc. Hopefully, The Cars receive induction this cycle. Bon Jovi was a surprise especially after JBJ mouthed off last year about the RRHOF. Bon Jovi has a large fanbase and should get enough votes. KING Posted by KING on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 16:54pm |

I guess my pick of Captain Beefheart was a crash and burn case like King talked about and the same with The Jam. I am disappointed that the Spinners were not nomimated this year. I dont know R&b like Bill G but I do own a decent amount of Old R&b. Janet Jackson and Tina Turner were passed over also. I am not a big Janet J fan but she is key in music history. I own Nothing by Janet J but I do own some Tina Turner. Posted by Ben on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 19:20pm |
My choices for this year's induction. Posted by danny on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 19:49pm |
I really don't think Bill G. is too far off the mark. But, as I've said before, I don't think it's blatant racism so much as it is latent racism. The Foundation is simply chasing the dollar. They're nominating acts that will make draw the biggest audiences for HBO and bring visitors to the museum. That money is still largely in the hands of the White people who want to see their classic rock bands get in. It's so subtle that most don't see how industry-wide and social racism nuance it. I got 9 right this year: Kate Bush, The Cars, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, J. Geils Band, LL Cool J, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, and Link Wray. I was one of the very few to predict Kate Bush so I am so pleased she finally appears on a HOF ballot. I doubt she'll get in this year (or maybe ever), but love her work nevertheless. I am also glad Dire Straits got nominated too, I thought they would be nominated for some reason and they did. Posted by Nick on Thursday, 10/5/2017 @ 22:53pm |

****FROM LAST YEAR...**** Posted by Bill G. on Friday, 10/6/2017 @ 01:40am |
You’re not mentioning that they inducted Nile Rodgers last year. I do see that the number of inducted R&B acts is dropping, but I think that the truth is closer to Philip’s explanation than to some conspiracy against classic R&B. Furthermore, I don’t think that The Pointer Sisters, Barry White or Dionne Warwick would have stand a better chance than Janet Jackson or Chaka Khan on last year’s ballot. It is possible that they nominate less R&B acts for the same reason as why many people think that only one Hiphop act was nominated: maybe they want to clear the field for Chaka Khan. Let’s hope it will work. Posted by The_Claw on Friday, 10/6/2017 @ 02:34am |

I'm curious where Radiohead would be placed on the pyramid when inducted. Would they be a 3? I'm very happy to see Judas Priest & Moody Blues nominated. Both should be inducted. Judas Priest probably has toured or been in 1 of those festival bills with every important hard rock and metal band in the last 30+ years. They will pile up the votes especially since the hard rock/metal bands have 4 or 5 members. Moody Blues will receive votes from a large swath of voters. 60's and 70's legendary bands. Like Judas Priest, Moody Blues toured with several great bands and those already inducted. Maybe, Roy can write 1 of his lists on who would vote for Judas Priest and Moody Blues. Love those lists. Looking at those fan ballots, I don't see how anyone can think they're even somewhat credible when it's mostly white cis males of all ages whining about how they're inducting non-rock artists and want to put all of their effort in to keeping them out by mindlessly voting for rock acts, EVEN IF they aren't worthy. Good points there, Bill G., but the vast majority of the (virtually all white) alt-rockers of the 80s/90s (Smiths, Cure, NIN, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Replacenments, etc.) have been getting short shrift too... Posted by EDS on Friday, 10/6/2017 @ 21:01pm |

I hope that they do a bigger induction class than 5. I understand the argument that you wouldn't want to "water down" the Hall, but since they're clearly going for trying to include a VAST amount of different genres under the same roof, having larger classes wouldn't be an issue. "I agree with Bill that there are a lot of worthy R&B acts not yet in, and I think that partially may be due to the hall distancing itself from the 50s and early 60s. It IS crazy to me, however, that the nominating committee would consistently go for acts like Joe Tex or the Meters (all talented and great artists), when they could go for bigger, more memorable R&B acts that would be BONAFIDE inductees if nominated. Kool and the Gang and the Commodores are the two biggest examples of this, in my opinion." Posted by Bill G. on Sunday, 10/8/2017 @ 02:20am |

Hey everybody. Notice if you will I left out the J. Geils Band as a prediction this year. I predicted them as a nominee. It was one of the ones I got right. However, due to another stacked list I do NOT think they will be inducted. I initially felt the the passing of J. Geils would place them in the Hall. I didn't know the choices at the time. I had predicted my favs the Moody Blues. I also predict Bon Jovi and Dire Straits. Now I am taking a chance with Eurythmics. I know a bunch of their 70s stuff but how many Voters do or care. Another Boston band Aerosmith probably know them but what about others. SO I say no to the J. Geils Band this year. Posted by Ben on Tuesday, 10/10/2017 @ 06:59am |

Dave Stewart is the most recent in a long line of British artists to say that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an American thing and insinuating that it is only an American institution. Deep Purple did it too. Stop it. The whole British Invasion is in, tons of other British artists are in, and just in the past few years: Posted by Classic Rock on Tuesday, 10/10/2017 @ 22:32pm |

NO to LL this year (rap fatigue, 'but the Kennedy Center...' is a weak-ass argument at best, too many worthier non-white acts on the ballot this year, etc.), and there's no way they're honoring more than 7 acts (Early Influence/Musis Excellence included), when they haven't done that many in over a decade! #wakeupsheeple Posted by KXB on Saturday, 10/14/2017 @ 18:40pm |
Alright then that last post was a bit extreme. I will write a much more mild version of that. There has been a pattern in recent years of skipping a rap act sometimes. In 2012 Beastie Boys were inducted and then in 2013 there waa Public Enemy. Rap was skipped in 2014 and 2015. It was a way of giving Rap a break. So after NWA in 2016 and 2Pac last year many voters may be a bit tired of Rap in a class. LL would be skipped and given another chance next year perhaps. As you are most probably very much aware, earlier this year, several of the past and present members of Yes had finally been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Although Yes had been previously nominated twice before, their third nomination was the charm. Accordingly and perhaps quite appropriately, Yes had been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame by previous inductees and prog icons, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush. It will probably be around Thanksgiving/late November when I post my real predictions for the Class of 2018. I've narrowed it down to ten acts, and it gets difficult all the time. However, I'll be glad to share who I would vote for if I were one of the "cool, selected, lucky people to be able to vote": Posted by Jason Voigt on Sunday, 10/15/2017 @ 18:38pm |
I'm not the first to complain but it does strike me as odd that voters can only select 5 acts regardless of how many acts will be inducted. I really hope they surprise us. Posted by Jason Voigt on Sunday, 10/15/2017 @ 19:25pm |

richie, how do you know that the candidates for the Musical Excellence or Non-Performer categories are not worthy? Those candidates have never been revealed. Posted by The_Claw on Sunday, 10/15/2017 @ 20:27pm |
Ben, without a doubt Bon Jovi is the most popular act on the ballot and if they are selected, they'll be the headliner. Posted by The_Claw on Sunday, 10/15/2017 @ 20:30pm |
I think Steve Winwood will induct Moody Blues. This would grease the wheels for a 2nd Steve Winwood induction. Can't envision a scenario where Moody Blues is squeezed out. They will receive votes from all over the place. 60's groups, 70's groups, the Prog contingency, rock groups. LL Cool J is very intriguing. N.W.A. Public Enemy and some rap groups have been inducted recently. Should pick up some votes. He's a big star in music and TV. Will help his cause. However, Janet Jackson with her fans and popularity couldn't get enough votes for induction. I think Moody Blues and Radiohead will make it through. Hoping Judas Priest can capture enough votes for induction. They have earned it. KING Posted by KING on Monday, 10/16/2017 @ 01:58am |

Nina Simone is a great Jazz vocalist. Wild is the Wind is a great tune and I know about her career. I don't know where DarinRG is but he should be impressed I am picking Eurythmics. I am Not a fan at all really. Every year there is always some I don't like much or know. Many do groove with all the hits sung by Annie Lennox. Sooo in an effort to fight the repetition on here.I want to say that Classic R&B is represented by The Meters and Rufus. There is a conspiracy theory that this was done on purpose to give more chance to Rock. I don't know about that. I think they may be pet projects of Questlove. He is hoping. It's the same way the J. Geils Band is a pet project. The Spinners and the Commodores should have been nominated. I am a fan of a substantial amount of R&B. I keep my music collection organized by genre. I have about a row in my racks of R&B. Among others I own a Best of Teddy Pendergrass. Love Songs actually and the Spinners. I love some tunes of Harold Melvyn and the Bluenoyes.I own a good amount of R&B. Some Earth, wind & Fire and a bunch of Stevie Wonder. I would have loved to see the Spinners nominated. I am a Rocker who also likes Old R&B. I don't know as much as Bill G. Maybe the Spinners will be nominated next year. I own about 25 R&B cds. Posted by Ben on Friday, 10/27/2017 @ 06:32am |

Soo I am hoping others get on here 2nite. The Hall seems to be trying to get back tonbetter classes. Less misfires like Percy Sledge or Inducting Dr. John and the Faces bfore acts that could have been inducted first. I no longer say that any act should not be inducted. Its the order of things. In any case they are trying to correct things now. Very easily Abba could have waited until this year instead of the Moody Blues or Dire Straits. The classes have been better. Last year's was one of the best in years. They had Classic rock acts but also Pearl Jam and Joan Baez. And they got a rap act in also. Posted by Ben on Friday, 10/27/2017 @ 18:41pm |

So I gave my predictions of 7 inductees for 2018. I actually feel there is 10 nominees that have a good chance. I feel that the 7 I predicted are the most likely clearly but I also feel the J. Geils Band, Judas Priest and The Zombies have a fair chance of induction. So they are runnner ups. Inevitably those 3 may fall short. Posted by Ben on Monday, 10/30/2017 @ 07:33am |
What I often do in this Down time while we wait is look back at a couple past ceremonies. 20 years ago was the 1998 ceremony. The Inductees were Fleetwood Mac, Santana, Mamas & Papas, Lloyd Price, Gene Vincent and the Eagles. This was a pretty good class even though I find the Eagles pretty boring. It made sense on the basis of tbeir popularity and impact. I didnt mind them as a young teenager. Posted by Ben on Wednesday, 11/1/2017 @ 06:27am |
I just want to be clear that getting back to that glory with a couple 80s and 90s acts thrown in means that the variety brought by 80s and 90s acts is part of the glory. I mean I think Dr. John, the Faces and others could have waited in favor of Journey,The Cars, Dire Straits and Duran Duran. The 2011 class was not one of the best at all. Hi, I'm a new poster to this forum but have been visiting this site for about five years. I love reading the debates and the reasoning behind the support for various artists. I am basically a classic rock guy but I recognize that that the Rock Hall of Fame uses a broad definition of what constitutes rock music. Most of my favorite artists ( The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel etc) are already in the Hall. But the Moody Blues, the Spinners, Pat Benatar, the Guess Who, the Stylistics, Foreigner, Jethro Tull, Chubby Checker, Def Leppard, Three Dog Night, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and Judas Priest are all worthy of induction. Bon Jovi, because the were the first hard rock band to dominate the singles chart and Top 40 radio (an under appreciated fact), is also deserving. And Sister Rosetta Tharpe is probably THE single most glaring omission of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Moodies are the second worst omission. Rap acts like LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, and Notorious Big will be in soon, although rap isn't my cup of tea ( and I'm black). I hope that great bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden , and Alice in Chains are recognized soon. Love those bands!! Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 11/2/2017 @ 15:15pm |
So now after my initial comments, here are my predictions for the 2018 inductions-- Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 11/2/2017 @ 15:31pm |
Also, while Kate Bush is obviously talented and an important artist in Britain, she did not have enough success or impact in America to warrant Rock Hall induction. Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 11/2/2017 @ 15:36pm |
Connie Francis, Neil Sedaka, and Paul Anka should be in as well. Posted by Mark tesla on Thursday, 11/2/2017 @ 16:17pm |

To Whom it may concern, My son Richie was a big fan of this site & sadly made way too many comments on here which resulted in you guys blocking him. He was called a troll & annoying as heck by one user. I just wanted you to know that my son is not a Troll, he is actually an Autistic young man who did not understand the rules of placing comments. He did not mean to offend anyone & is so crushed to be blocked. He is a huge music fan & I taught him to talk through country music. I have explained to him the rules & he is so very sorry for leaving too many comments but being Autistic he truly didn't understand the error of his ways. Would you please give him another chance as this site means so much to him. You have my promise & his that he will limit his comments to the proper amount. Thank you & have a great day. Posted by Sheri on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 15:08pm |
I was just typing a long series of comments and they just disappeared. I had been typing and thinking for half and hour and just lost everything. Don't know what happened. Anyway, the gist of it was that more modern rock bands such as the Pixies, Sonic Youth, and the Replacements should have been more commercially successful to merit induction. While they made some good music, we can't compare them to acts such as the Velvet Underground or the Stooges who are on the Hall despite having sold relatively few records, because in their time guitar rock was undergoing significant transformation and these older band could truly be considered innovators. This may be the thought process that keeps these modern bands of of the Hall. Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 15:32pm |
Sorry about the spelling in my last post. That is what happens when I rush my typing and do not proofread. Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 19:11pm |

Zuzu, while I realize that Bon Jovi made their fair share of sweet ballads, I can't think of any Stones song as hard as Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" or " Living on A Prayer". The hardest rock song the Stones made that I can recall is "Jumping Jack Flash". Sorry Paul! : ) Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 19:32pm |
A lot of predictions have Sister Rosetta Thorpe, Nina Simone, and/or Link Wray getting in the "back door" instead of as performers, which is what they are nominated as. Can you imagine other halls of fame working this way? It's SOOOOOO shady. It's like Pete Rose making the baseball hall of fame as a "batsman" or some made up crap. The RNRHOF needs to publish the results and stop this silliness. Posted by Classic Rock on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 21:17pm |
Yes Classic Rock, the Rock Hall of Fame needs to be much more transparent. But I'll tell you, it is good to see them induct long overdue artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Yes, Cat Stevens, and Deep Purple. Not to mention a great band like Rush, whose album Hold Your Fire is one of my top 5 favorites of all time. Hopefully they'll finally accept the Moody Blues this year. I think that they will. And maybe Pat Benatar next year. Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 11/3/2017 @ 23:38pm |

Hello Sheri. You stated that your son loves this website. So do I ! Every year around nomination and induction time I spend some time here. It seems that I've really become deeply interested in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the past five years, when I began viewing induction ceremonies. As someone who reads a fair amount about the history of popular music, I 'm stimulated by discussion about performers of the past. I also love debating the merits of artists eligible for induction, and I'm pretty opinionated. So yes, keep encouraging Richie to post and discuss what he is passionate about. Take care and be well! : ) Posted by Mark Tesla on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 15:38pm |
Hello Enigmaticus, thanks for the welcome. I love many of the bands you mentioned like Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, and Yes. I've listened to Gentle Giant on YouTube, but I do not know Renaissance. Love the band Kansas though, especially Point of Know Return. Over the past few years I have read many of your posts and know already that you're passionate about progressive rock. As a guitar/classic rock guy I've grown up listen to these groups, starting around 1980. By the way , Can made some nice music in the early 70s. I have been somewhat reluctant to name possible inductees for next year, but I will still at least finally attempt to do so. The problem is there are 19 nominees and it’s so difficult to choose this time. Posted by Enigmaticus on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 17:35pm |
Ben, it was good to see Stevie Ray Vaughn inducted because he had a fresh take on the blues that contemporary artists lacked. I'm a fan of different styles of rock myself. My all time favorite artist is The Who. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues, U2, Green Day, REM, and the Beatles (1967-1970 era). I am also favorable towards Prince , Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Rush, The Band, Stone Temple Pilots, Cat Stevens, Nirvana, Pat Benatar, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden , Roy Orbison, Yes, the Coasters, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Def Leppard, and Guns N Roses. Metal bands like Scorpions, Judas Priest, Metallica, and Iron Maiden I've enjoyed a bit as well. Among soul groups, the Spinners and Earth Wind and Fire are my favorites of that genre. Check out MGMT, a band that's been around relatively few years but makes great spacey rock. Take care. Posted by Mark Tesla on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 19:05pm |
Enig, you and I agree on 5 inductee predictions. I chose the Moody Blues, Radiohead, Sister R Tharpe, Ll Cool J, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, and Rufus with Chaka Khan. Bon Jovi has a shot, and I would l love to see the Cars make it. Posted by Mark Tesla on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 19:41pm |

Ben, early to mid 70s Stevie Wonder music ranks up there with there with that decade's best pop music, although The Who's albums Who's Next and Quadrophenia are at the top of the heap in my opinion. Posted by Mark Tesla on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 21:01pm |

Enigmaticus, Ben, and all others-I used to think of Alice Cooper's music as so-so. Sure, he had a great stage show, with mock beheadings and fake hangings and all the wild props. To me, his best known songs like School's Out and I'm Eighteen were ok but not special. But about 3 years ago, listening to Eddie Trunk's syndicated radio hard rock show I heard Cooper's song Billion Dollar Babies. A good song that led me to purchase Cooper's album of the same name. I have to admit, after listening to that album I was hugely impressed. What a fantastic album! It greatly changed my opinion of Alice Cooper. The level of songwriting was outstanding. Hello Hooray, Elected, Raped and Freezing, Generation Landslide, and No More Mister Nice Guy and others made it Alice Cooper's career best album, and one of the best of its era. In case you've never heard it, listen to it and see what you think. Take care, be well. Posted by Mark Tesla on Saturday, 11/4/2017 @ 21:25pm |

Hopefully, the committee will wake up and finally nominate Tull. Put them in while they are still alive please! Posted by Mark Tesla on Sunday, 11/5/2017 @ 00:24am |
Enigmaticus, I have only about 5 Rush albums so I'm sure my knowledge of their music isn't as comprehensive as yours. I've known Rush by listening to album rock radio for decades. So I can't really rank so many of their albums as you can. I have Hold Your Fire, Power Windows, Clockwork Angels, Moving Pictures, and Permanent Waves. Hold Your Fire is one of my favorite albums ever. The music on that disc was like music sent down from God to me. Soaring, uplifting, and transcendental. Hi Ben, Thank you so much for your kind comment, understanding & letting him back on the site. I appreciate your trying to help him in the direction of how many comments are accepted. He really wanted to do this without Mom's help & I never realised how many times he had commented till it was too late. He is so excited about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ( every music hall of fame actually)& when he gets too excited, he will repeat things. Couple that with a difficulty with direct questions & well things get hard for those around him & him as well. Music of all genders but mainly country & rock & roll is his area of interest & truly is his world. I used country music to help him talk & many other things in his world. He really is an amazing young man & the best thing that ever happened to me. He has taught me so much about what's truly important in life & I wouldn't trade him for 10 typical children. He knows so much about music & his instincts pertaining to music ( & other things) just blows me away. It sounds like you're a very nice & tolerant man & I totally understand everything that occurred. I & he are so grateful you allowed him back on! Have a wonderful day Ben & many, many blessings! Hi Sue, Thank you for your kind comments & what an awesome job you have! Richie loves to read & has now to date about 1500 music magazines & books. Hi Phillip, Thank you for your kind comment & understanding. Yes, sadly a lot of people get nervous about asking someone..Are you Autistic? Simply because there still seems to be a somewhat negative air pertaining to Autism. Though our numbers are getting larger now on this earth there are some ( not on here, this was a simple misunderstanding) that can be quite cruel to us for our differences. There are also many ( again, not on here) that do not wish to accept us, only cure us. The sad thing is we simply perceive & understand things different than the masses but if we joined together we'd have such an awesome view of all that surrounds us & what a truly wonderful world it would be if that was the case. Have a great day & Blessings! Posted by Sheri on Sunday, 11/5/2017 @ 10:48am |

I will post to everyone here. King Crimson is a group that has escaped me over the years. I love my Emerson,Lake and Palmer but somehow I fall short on King Crimson. The Hall went ahead with the Moody Blues first before either of those. This makes sense since the Moodys have this huge career that spans 50 years and are so widely known. I think Bon Jovi will get lots and lots of Votes. They are embraced by the Rock world as a whole. They are kind of a Harder rock version of Bruce Springsteen. I am confident that Bon Jovi will be inducted. They would be the arena rock choice for this class. Its the same way Journey was inducted last year. The Hall is loosening up with the 80s. I am so sorry for the mistakes I made! I thank you for your kind & thoughtful comments pertaining to Richie & Autism itself & I also thank you for allowing Richie to connect with you on Twitter. He is so excited about you posting your 2018 predictions at the end of November as he feels your predictions are very similar to his. I agree with what your sister told you as research is clearly showing a genetic connection where us Autistic's are concerned. So many call the onslaught of Autistic people in todays world an epidemic but to us Autistic's it is simply an evolution of mankind itself. Did you know research is now showing us that some of the most influential & game changers ( so to speak) in history have indeed been on the spectrum? It's pretty cool! I am looking forward to the induction of the Moody Blues. The thing is a few friends are simply hoping they are inducted. I made the point that they will get plenty of votes. I do realize that it took Yes 3 nominations to be inducted. I hope that the same thing would NOT happen to the Moodys. Can some of you help me with evidence that they will sail right in. What I was trying to say is that the Moody Blues have a slightly wider audience like Chicago, Steve Miller and ELO in the last few years. Any of the older Rock voters can Vote for the Moodys. Anyone from Pete Townsend and Eric Burdon to The Rush members would vote for them. Posted by Ben on Tuesday, 11/21/2017 @ 10:39am |

Kinda glad Radiohead won't be able to make it. Never got them. There are 2 major alt/rock bands of the past 20 years that I never got at all, none of it: Radiohead and Arcadia Fire. Posted by Classic Rock on Wednesday, 11/29/2017 @ 14:59pm |
They can still get in whether or not they show. I'm not sure how important is on Thom Yorke & Co's radar. A lot of times there have been many living individuals that did not show up for their own induction ceremony. However, I'm not sure about first-year-eligible ones. Re: Radiohead... I think you guys are forgetting that a lot of voters have already filled out their ballots and mailed them back in. They can't change their votes this late in the game. So unless you're either going to argue prescience and premonitions, or are going with the theory that the Hall is going to "misplace" votes for Radiohead for spite, those votes are already in and will be counted. Posted by Philip on Thursday, 11/30/2017 @ 12:55pm |
Plus, it's not the end of the world if Radiohead doesn't attend. Sure it'd be a great selling point for the ceremony if they did attend and perform, but there's plenty of other acts on the ballot, that if inducted can provided the HOF with a good show and that will sell tickets. Of course, I am extremely interested in seeing the group who happens to be third on my list of favorite prog artists, after previous Rock Hall inductees: Rush (01) and Yes (02) announced as an inductee next week. The Moody Blues had been the first major progressive rock band which I had discovered on my own, more than 37 years ago. If I were to speculate on which prog bands will definitely benefit from The Moody Blues induction, I would say King Crimson (04), Duran Duran (05) and Jethro Tull (07). I would also say that Procol Harum (16) will be renominated afterwards. Please remember that it may be possible that Rush’s long overdue induction in 2013 had most probably led to the induction of Yes earlier this year and the probable induction of The Moody Blues in 2018. My predictions for induction: Posted by MichaelEU on Sunday, 12/3/2017 @ 11:47am |
With the news that Radiohead will not attend the induction ceremony, this is my hope: if they got the votes to be inducted they should be inducted. But the Hall should also expand the class. If they originally were going to induct 6 including Radiohead, then induct 7. There's no reason Radiohead should be left out just because they won't show up. It didn't affect Sex Pistols' induction. Posted by Greg P. on Monday, 12/4/2017 @ 08:52am |
If Radiohead does not get inducted it is not because they will not show up. That is ridiculous. If anything they are not showing up because they realize they are not getting the votes and are just trying to save face with a lame excuse. Posted by Zuzu on Monday, 12/4/2017 @ 09:46am |

Ok, so that may be the first I've actually read someone complain that the Rock Hall wasn't being Americentric enough. I didn't say R&B was the most poorly represented, only that it was poorly represented. But even though rock and roll draws from country, folk, gospel, etc., R&B is easily the biggest and most important component or building block, so representing it more thoroughly behooves the Hall best. Ben, nice to engage with you again. I believe that you're likely right about Nina Simone being inducted. I nearly included her in my predictions. The reason I see a possibility for Rufus is that I get an impression that some members of the Hall want to induct Chaka Khan, much like Chic and Nile Rodgers. Of course Rodgers made it and the rest of Chic didn't. Can Khan make it in solo? We'll see down the line, if Rufus falls short. Do I necessarily feel Rufus is a slam dunk in terms of deserving enshrinement? Not at all. They were good as you say, but group like The Spinners are far more worthy. Dire Straits are borderline as Hall of Famers in my opinion, but I've always liked them. LL Cool J will make it in sooner or later. He was successful, crossed over with pop hit singles, and is a household name. I think that he has a strong chance this year. Having said all that, it is time for the Hall voters to wake up and induct Pat Benatar!! Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 12/7/2017 @ 13:12pm |
I'm going to be listening to some Radiohead this week . I bought their album OK Computer last year and listened to part of it. The only song of their's that I have ever really known was Creep, from the early 90's. Whether they show up or not, they will be inducted. Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 12/7/2017 @ 13:21pm |
Mark, your point about Chaka is good, but misses a key point or two. For starters, Nile Rodgers is a founding member of the Foundation, so the resolve to get him in one way or the other was double the strength it would ever be for her. Second, because of his extensive session and producer credits, AME was at least plausible for Nile whereas Performer is the only credible way to recognize Chaka Khan, hopefully twice. Posted by Philip on Thursday, 12/7/2017 @ 14:54pm |
Philip, I agree with you 100% about Nile Rodgers. His considerable work on the albums of many artists as well as his own definitely brought forth the view that he needed to be in. I was totally unaware that he had any role in the foundation Posted by Mark Tesla on Thursday, 12/7/2017 @ 16:07pm |

Yes, I do believe that Kate Bush should be inducted before most of the artists you have listed, because A) I don't believe in a line, as in I don't believe that artists should be inducted in chronological order, but in order of merit, and B) not all the women listed are potential Hall of Famers, to be honest. By the way, there should some more folk music representation in the Hall. Peter, Paul and Mary should be there. Same with The Kingston Trio, who had been nearly as big as Elvis in the early 1960's. Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 12/8/2017 @ 12:59pm |
Don't be surprised if a rare induction for an 80's act, The Eurythmics, happens next week. But where's Pat Benatar? Sad! Posted by Mark Tesla on Friday, 12/8/2017 @ 13:04pm |
Zusu, don't ever for a moment think that Beatlemania was not real. Mark, thanks for responding. I quote this sentence from you, because I think that this is important. “But a Hall of Fame should be reserved for those whose impact was considerable.” It is my point that you don’t need to be big in the USA to have considerable impact, because major developments in rock n roll happen outside the States: think of the developments in the UK that lead to British Invasion, Kraftwerk & krautrock, ska, dub & reggae, the Swedish pop industry. The development of rock n roll is a global phenomenon. Posted by The_Claw on Friday, 12/8/2017 @ 17:00pm |

I was concerned you might be upset as this site should not be used for purposes like what transpired. I have already posted my predictions. Unless somebody wants to see them one more time I won't post it again. Judas Priest and the Zombies are runners up to my predictions. Since Bon Jovi is such a sure thing I don't truly expect Priest. They are rather different bands but it is a matter of votes. There are a lot of veteran Voters like Pete Townshend, Elton John and Grace Slick that are extremely unlikely to vote for them. There are a bunch of Heavy rock inductees that will likely vote for Priest plus guys like Eddie Trunk. So Priest is possible. The Zombies could be inducted but due to a stacked list I don't really think so. Posted by Ben on Saturday, 12/9/2017 @ 18:45pm |

Don't see what Joel Selvin has to do with our discussion. You don't know if "a lot of voters" didn't turn in a ballot. The numbers are never revealed. We only know that a couple of voters have voiced criticism on the ballot, Selvin didn't send it in, and John Bream only voted for one artist. But that was not because they believe in an induction in chronological order (John Bream voted for Madonna, who was eligible that year for the first time), but because they thought that the ballot didn't contain worthy artists. That is more a discussion on what should be considered rock n roll and what isn't (Selvin, for instance, criticized the induction of Miles Davis) and if a Hall of Fame should be small and exclusive or large and inclusive. So I just want to elaborate further about some of my predictions. I am gambling a bit on Eurythmics. They were loved by critics in the 80s Not by me in fact. Their music was a bit strange but they do have a wide appeal. I know a bunch of their music. I like others in the 80s like Duran Duran and Simple Minds a bit more. I want to see Sister Rosetta Tharpe inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in the performer category. It seems to me that many wish to relegate her to the Early Influence slot. To me this diminishes her recognition as an important artist because it appears that people see EI as something lesser. Much attention and debate usually focuses on the performer category and not so much the others. The woman was clearly performing rock and roll and should get the full recognition as an artist and performer that she richly deserves. Posted by Mark Tesla on Tuesday, 12/12/2017 @ 09:07am |

I have posted my picks a few times. They are unchanged. I do expect to finally at long last see the Great Moody Blues inducted. Also I expect my other choices like Bon Jovi to come through. Thats it. Same here Ben, I'm sticking it to my list, (which mirrors yours Enig's Donnie's Nick's and Jason's) except Bon Jovi The Cars The Eurythmics The Moody Blues Radiohead and Nina Simone are my top 6 Dire Straits is my pick if they induct 7 LL Cool J is my pick if they induct 8 and Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Link Wray are my picks as Early Influences. I feel that the hip hop doesn't belong in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME because they have their own hall of fame. 2pac should never be inducted. There are Rock and Roll Artists that should be in the Hall of Fame like George Michael Motley Crue Def Leopard. Jan and Dean Three Dogs Night. There is alot of good singer why don't you build a POP HALL OF FAME BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ANDY GIBB THE CARPENTER'S SHOULD BE IN A PLACE WHERE IN THE FUTURE THEY CAN SEE THAT WE HONORS GREAT MUSICIANS Posted by Carolyn A Duhon on Thursday, 03/1/2018 @ 03:57am |

I find it absolutely annoying how certain trolls do not like “prog.” I suppose that this is not surprising. After all you certainly have to have more than a minimum level of intelligence to listen to and appreciate music which challenges your mind and your senses. It is much easier overall to support those artists which push the status quo. Thinking must be a bad thing for some people. :-P Posted by Enigmaticus on Friday, 08/10/2018 @ 09:53am |
