Very influential proto-rap style musician, singer, and poet.

Digitaldreamdoor lists the following artists as Influential on Hip Hop:

"James Brown
Mariah Carey
Millie Jackson
Neneh Cherry
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
Miles Davis
Teena Marie
Sneaker Pimps
Chaka Khan & Rufus
The Last Poets
Blondie
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Prince"

I'm sorry but how can anyone compile a list like this and leave out Gil Scott-Heron? It's this kind of ignorance that led to Rolling Stone Magazine being such a joke publication; it's the typical "I've never heard of them, so they mustn't be important" mentality. I mean, one review of Gil Scott-Heron's work on Allmusic calls him: "Influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began!!" Anyway, my rant for the day.

It also missed out kraftwerk, who laid the ground for most the beats used in hip hop.

Yeah, no kidding, the list was apparently compiled by "Stereo Williams." If I were Stereo Williams, I wouldn't be so open as to provide a link to my blog next to my name if I made such glaring omissions...

Here's hoping for some sympathy votes this coming election.

He should be inducted before any more 80s-90s Rap acts are inducted. Same goes for the Last Poets.

Gil-Scot Heron should be on the lsit of snubs, not in this list - he is of the rock era - his spoken word numbers were proto-rap. He is probably the biggest snub!
