Whoever voted no for Sweet and yes for Gary Glitter needs to have their head examined for the benefit of medical science. Posted by joker on Tuesday, 09/8/2015 @ 11:44am |
The fact that these guys aren't in the hall is a Rock N Roll Disgrace. Posted by Max on Tuesday, 04/19/2016 @ 23:20pm |
You know, what I'm going to bring up sounds like it doesn't have anything to do with The Sweet or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. George Carlin once talked in a stand up act how a big part of the rich rich corporate class doesn't give a crap about anybody. Think about what you have to be to be in this Hall of Fame private committee to discuss and bring about stuff. Clearly it's money, right? You bet your behind it is! As the Sex Pistols said, it's a stain, and they are totally right! They say Rock N Roll Hall of Fame like it's ALL of rock. B.S. Where's T. Rex and The Sweet? How come so many obvious people were snubbed? How long did it take the Small Faces to get in? How did they miss Kiss? Deep Purple was snubbed for a long time! Parliament Funkadelic? Pretty bad and shameful. It is a corporate piece of garbage that doesn't represent rock n roll at all with things that are WAYYY overpriced, which means also they are probably losing money. They were meant to close anyways. Posted by Carlos on Saturday, 06/11/2016 @ 22:29pm |
Steering clear of record company requests for Bubble Gum, They played hard Rock with hits through the Early 70's. The Sweet style led the way for Queen and Bowie with US top ten hits like "Little Willie", "Ballroom Blitz", "Fox on The Run", "Love is Like Oxygen". That’s more than most Inductees ever had. In Europe they did the same with "Wig Wam", "Blockbuster", "Teenage Rampage", and "Action (Everybody Wants’ a Piece of the Action)". Posted by Fab Lite on Saturday, 07/9/2016 @ 23:25pm |
Sweet had such an influence on all types of music especially rock it is a crime for them not to have even been considered. They belong in the hall more than some of the groups that are already in, but as with everything, it's always politics and who you know etc. Posted by Carolie on Tuesday, 06/6/2017 @ 10:30am |
This band has a ton of hits, they've influenced so many popular bands, many of those bands already Hall of Famers, one of the pavers of the way for the Hair Metal bands of the 80s as well as having many other songs using different genres and mastering them all. I believe that the fact that they are not in is actually a crime. These guys deserve induction. Don't believe me? Listen to their songs then you will. "Action", "Ballroom Blitz", "Fox on the Run", "Teenage Rampage", "Little Willy", "Block Buster", "Funk It Up (David's Song)", "California Nights", "The Six Teens", "Sweet F.A.", the list could go on forever. The point is, these guys deserve induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Posted by Nathan on Friday, 11/10/2017 @ 17:43pm |
SWEET needs to be in the Hall of Fame for their talent and influence on other bands. They were doing the high vocal harmonies before Queen. They started out pop music, created Glam rock (with TREX)then got heavy with Metal and hard with Rock music. When they lost their lead singer they continued as a three man band sharing the lead vocals between Andy and Steve. They are still playing with Andy in Europe and Steve in America. I can't add much to this discussion, but I definitely wish Sweet would get the recognition they richly deserve. Four talented men who saw success on both sides of the Atlantic, their incredible songs are being discovered by new generations of listeners. Posted by John Cady on Thursday, 02/21/2019 @ 21:15pm |
Very underrated band, no doubts about that. Just check out Mick Tucker's drumming for a start, before you even get onto Steve Priests bass playing, Andy Scott's crunching guitars and Connolly's soaring vocals. The influences on Queen cannot be overstated, just that Queen managed not to get tarnished by their early work in the way Sweet did. It could have been so different but they had a habit of causing their own downfall (Brian Connolly getting kicked in meant they missed chance to support the Who at Charlton's football ground, not replacing Connolly with a lead singer when Ronnie James Dio had put himself up, the list goes on, sadly...). Agree that Sweet is very underrated. Doubtful of their chances for Rock Hall induction, their earlier output being much more popular in the UK than in America. Posted by Eric Tompkins on Wednesday, 05/22/2019 @ 16:17pm |

So I've been listening to the band sweet here lately and have discover they're not in the rock and roll Hall of fame I am blown away by their music Is good They've had light for 5 really good hits 30 years after some of their songs come out Like ballroom blitz which is an extremely big song And is loved By Younger generationI'm just saying I've seen bands with less credentials then the band sweet inducted into the Hall of fame so I can't figure out why these guys are in the Hall of fame there's only one member Left living It would be great for him to be inducted along with his band maybe this is something You should take a look at before you add punk bands that had no significant meaning in rock and roll or an RB band the had no significant meaning in Rock and roll if I'm able to vote then I got a vote for sweet a band that worked hard and didn't get what they deserved they should be in the rock and roll Hall of fame Posted by Joey on Thursday, 09/12/2019 @ 12:52pm |

I have been listening to Sweet since 1973 and have not stopped they are and will always be my favorite band they should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame there never was and never will be a band like them they are LOST ANGELS Posted by Sammy L Buschs on Thursday, 01/16/2020 @ 20:24pm |
Just saw this too. So sad. It's a bit of a longshot to say that T. Rex's induction will clear the path for the Sweet, but it'll be interesting to watch. Posted by Philip on Thursday, 06/4/2020 @ 22:27pm |
As Andy Scott (the lone surviving original member) the remaining stated, "And then there was one!" Posted by Joe on Thursday, 06/4/2020 @ 23:21pm |
It's criminal that the Sweet aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by now! They displayed vocal and instrumental talents in spades. Their vocal harmonies and their use of vocal and instrumental appregios was among the musical aspects of what made the unique band they were. Any music historian can point out how the Sweet's music influenced that of the 1980s "big hair" and other hard rock bands. The Sweet definitely met the HOF criteria of having released their first record after at least 25 years. I'd definitely think they also met the other HOF criteria regarding their contributions to the development of rock and roll. Unfortunately with the recent passing of the original bassist Steve Priest(lead vocalist Brian Connolly and drummer Mick Tucker have also passed), I hope that in the least, Andy Scott will live to see the Sweet get what they much deserve--a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction! I think that Sweet could garner enough support, and do have the qualifying credentials to earn them at least a nomination. Plus they are a fan favorite, and many 80's or 90's bands would cite them as an influence. I would list them in my Top 25 of 1970's Rock acts that would be worthy of a nomination. But getting inducted is another story, as we currently still have that logjam of Classic Rock artists to compete with. However, it is possible they could slide by a few bands with the Glam Rock angle, as we've seen Roxy Music and T. Rex get that advantage more recently.. What do you guys think?.. They are the best❣❣❣ Posted by Manca Maselj on Sunday, 07/12/2020 @ 17:26pm |
A true favorite of mine during the 70s, Sweet had everything going for them. Solid rock riffs, a charismatic and gifted lead singer, fun and colorful stage presence and a run of varied and high quality hit singles. OK they were never the most cutting edge band out there, but highly influential amongst the glam rock scene and were just had an overall great sound. Sweet defiantly has earned it on their own merit, and are often-= OFTEN mentioned as influences of members already inducted. Yes the Chin Chapman relationship created the bubblegum image but they really were hard rock and that was their influence,. I get annoyed at how gets inducted ie Whitney Houston ect.. that were great but not rock and roll and really did not influence the next generation. If Marc Bolin, who's music is not played on the radio anymore, made it-- the Sweet should be there. Do it before they are all gone!! Posted by Robert on Tuesday, 03/23/2021 @ 23:40pm |
Sweet not being in the Hall is proof that it's not about music, it's about who views an artist's image as"worthy". Laughable that this band hasn't been inducted yet. What a joke. Posted by Lisa on Monday, 12/27/2021 @ 14:28pm |
Sweet should be in the Rockhall. As simple as that!! Read all the comments above and those still coming!! Posted by Doris Oldham on Monday, 01/31/2022 @ 06:00am |
SWEET not even once NOMINATED for HoF??? I'm mad. Posted by Ryan Watson on Friday, 03/11/2022 @ 22:22pm |
One of the essential glam rock bands. Maybe they will get a look-in when credible candidates start to dry up, but I don't see it anytime soon. It doesn't stop me from loving their music though. They're more deserving than many of the artists already inducted. Posted by StunningStocktaker on Tuesday, 07/5/2022 @ 15:53pm |
Sweet had 4 different periods of music...but their sheer stellar musicianship carried them through all. Posted by Clair Connell on Wednesday, 07/6/2022 @ 03:01am |
Sweet and other bands of that era like Slade had numerous number one hits in Europe and the rest of the world. They had been inducted for years if the RNRHOF was outside of the US. Posted by W.Sibbing on Friday, 10/21/2022 @ 13:08pm |
