5 comments so far (post your own)His solo performances of The Wall, each far superior in their own way than the earlier 1980's version with the Floyd, have been seen live by over 1 million humans. Now how many others can make that claim? The man deserves to be IN for that, and all of the other reasons noted above! Posted by Kevin Kelsay on Monday, 04/14/2014 @ 14:24pm |
Why not? His latest album was pretty good. Better than Stevie Nicks IMO Posted by Michael on Saturday, 11/3/2018 @ 20:31pm |
Roger's solo work is simply outstanding. Amused to Death is an extraordinary album and matches the Wall for DSOM. Posted by Bob Granger on Friday, 07/31/2020 @ 02:07am |
Roger Waters' solo albums have not sold well by any measure. His first two albums sold very poorly and their tours lost massive sums of money - the record company even asked him to stop touring. His all-star staging of The Wall in Berlin actually bankrupted and shut down the very charity it was intended to benefit. He blamed MTV and a long list of well-respected music critics for his failures. He publicly criticized his former bandmates for touring old material (which he absolutely could have prevented), but then rebuilt his career and his finances doing the very same thing. He has publicly rebuked some of the most successful artists in the world for performing in Israel. He doesn't like Trump, he doesn't like Biden, he's not a U.S. citizen and he doesn't vote - but he likes to use a lot of anti-government imagery to pander to he audience. He will likely never be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a solo artist in his lifetime, to avoid protests, counter-protests, and a generally distasteful political performance. After Warren Zevon gets inducted, I could see Roger Waters' solo career becoming the next favorite in that "aging cerebral classic rock solo artist" slot… Posted by Bookhouse on Monday, 04/3/2023 @ 13:26pm |
