It's difficult for me to label any artist the "best" at their instrument, but I definitely put Hal Blaine up there with Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Earl Palmer, etc...

I would say they are all the best.. But Hal as mentioned is more than a drummer. He was the "Wrecking Crew" so to speak .. When you needed that hit sound via Spector, Beach Boys ,Monkeys ,Elvis ,Mama and Papas, Sonny and Cher , Diamond,Denver, Simon and Garfunkel,Byrds, Carpenters, 5th Dimension,Turtles, Association, etc etc etc you called Hal and his Wrecking crew..

a great guy and guitarist RIP... Hal knew who to pick for what ever the session was..The producer
knew that Hal knew.. It made their job easier...
