Here's a great read from Bob Lefsetz, about U2 and Rolling Stone magazine (the mag named U2's album #1 this year): Posted by Jason Voigt on Wednesday, 12/3/2014 @ 02:15am |
I've been a U2 fan since WAR. That was an intense and rocking album. Probably the album that brought U2 to the attention of music fans. Since then, U2 has continued to make quality music. The Joshua Tree masterpiece made U2 superstars. With or Without You was a big hit. Where The Streets Have No Name. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. I like that U2 experiments musically. Some were hits Achtung Baby other time misses Zooropa. U2 one of those no brainer RRHOF inductees. Bono is an impressive front man and the Edge can really play that guitar. Love the Leave Behind and Atomic Bomb albums. I was wondering what albums or songs helped put U2 over the top. KING Posted by KING on Saturday, 06/13/2015 @ 03:17am |
U2 one of the most important bands last 30 years. Bono has achieved and elevated the singer front man to a high level. The WAR & Joshua Tree Albums were masterpieces. It's amazing these guys in mid 50's going strong. Can go 10 more years at high level. Not many groups could survive the Zooropa experiment but U2 did. These guys are legends. All That You Can't Leave Behind & How To Build An Atomic Bomb were classic CD's. U2 has been in my Top 5 groups last 30 years. They should be inducted twice U2 for their greatness. U2 should have quit 15 or so years ago, but their early albums are gems. I love the subtle guitar soundscape by The Edge and Adam Clayton's driving bass. Too bad they're now a bunch of old hacks. Posted by StunningStocktaker on Wednesday, 08/7/2019 @ 15:29pm |

I was very happy U2 was inducted in the RRHOF. They are simply 1 of my FAV groups all-time. Honestly, I have been a fan of them since the WAR album. It was a big album those 78's trying to carry them around as a young kid. Every song could have been a hit. One of my earliest memories was watching the Sunday Bloody Sunday video on MTV. The Red Rocks. Bono was moving around carrying a flag and singing. I was impressed by that song and was drawn to their sound. I also loved the New Year's Day song and video. I've always pondered it's meaning. I don't know if Bono's saying that different problems poverty, war, etc. continue on New Year's Day. New Year's Day is suppose to be positive and new beginnings but it's just another day for people struggling. Maybe, it's irony that New Year's Day is upbeat and lively but usually dead of winter. Cold and dark out. People are looking for new life and new hope. U2's success and trending upward continued when U2 was at Live Aid. That probably finally put U2 over the top. It was an exemplary performance. They would later construct a musical masterpiece The Joshua Tree. 1 of the few albums that you just let it run. Start to finish no skipping. The album is like a religious experience. My FAV song off of it is With Or Without. I like the build up and the tension and the release like a waving hitting the shore. Bono's voice is very powerful and clear on The Joshua Tree. Also, I like The Edge's little outro. I also enjoyed Rattle And Hum the album and movie. It kind of jumps around but some of my FAVS include the gem All I Want Is You, Angel Of Harlem, and Desire. Is there a better song than Angel Of Harlem? I think the early reviews were mixed. Some of it thought it as pretentious and uneven while others viewed it in a more positive light. I have my Rattle And Hum T-shirt somewhere. U2 really jumped it to the next level with Achtung Baby and the Zoo TV Tour. I'm angry that my U2 Tour shirt dissolved quite quickly. Should have bought 3 or 4 . Another exemplary album. It's 1 of the 1st I purchased on a CD. I think that's the 1st time I bought a CD on the first day of release. I had heard good hype around Achtung Baby. Remember vividly my sister buying The Fly on Single tape. It was a different sound from U2 but it sounded great. One would be 1 of the Classic songs from Achtung Baby. They played Even Better Than The Real Thing like 100 times. Two underrated gems are Ultraviolet and Love Is Blindness. Posted by KING on Tuesday, 12/1/2020 @ 04:15am |
I saw them at Bonnaroo back in 2017. One of the best sets I've ever seen. They played the complete Joshua Tree album. Wish you'd seem them, KING. Posted by Paul in KY on Tuesday, 12/1/2020 @ 06:24am |
I saw them on that 2017 tour when they did the whole Joshua Tree album too, as well as in 2011 when they did Achtung Baby in its entirety. They may not be the best musicians out there but they definitely know how to put on a good show. I took my then-13-year-old son to the 2017 concert and U2 has been his favorite band ever since. I was lucky enough to see U2 live a few years ago too. I just thank God they're one of those bands with no lineup cause that's what help them stay relevant for more than forty years. Even if one of the members decides to leave or has unexpectedly died, they would split up with decency rather than continuing as a cash-grabbing money comedy show on tour like it happened to half of Queen. Just because members come and go doesn't mean it's always happen for the good. Posted by The Dude on Tuesday, 12/1/2020 @ 08:42am |
