5 comments so far (post your own)Innovative Celtic folk-rock band fronted by the highly talented and literate Mike Scott. They're up there with the greats in my opinion but have never really "broke through" to the mainstream. Would be great to see them honoured at the rock hall but I very much doubt it will ever happen. One of the best bands ever, but they're Scottish. R&R hall of fame consistently snubs Scottish artists for some crazy reason. Posted by Harp on Friday, 08/7/2020 @ 22:13pm |
Mike Scott is the best songwriter of the '80s (possibly tied with Neil Finn). It would be criminal for The Waterboys to be snubbed, but I've a feeling they will be, due to their lack of success overseas. Posted by StunningStocktaker on Monday, 09/6/2021 @ 15:02pm |
Was just listening to "This Is The Sea" today and the imagery that the song conjours up is just stunning. Mike Scott truly paints with words and to me he's up there with the likes of Ray Davies, John Lennon, Pete Townshend etc as one of the top British songwriters. Superb voice too. The Waterboys is a misleading name because it's essentially Mike Scott plus session players, but I'd at the very least induct him as a solo artist. This website should do its research a bit better. The essential album they mentioned is "A Pagan Place" not "A Pagan Love". And The Waterboys have way more essential songs than just "The Whole Of The Moon". Lazy research by the website people. Mike Scott (and The Waterboys) deserve better. He's one of the best songwriters of the 80s/90s. Posted by Johnny on Friday, 02/20/2026 @ 07:39am |
