My Sharona would be a good contender for the singles category...otherwise, despite being a minor fan of their work, I don’t think that they are HoF worthy at this point in time.

Doug Fieger of The Knack was the younger brother of Attorney Geoffrey Fieger, who represented Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

They definitely deserve to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately they are overshadowed by the monster hit that was My Sharona. If you listen to all their albums, they actually made some great music post Sharona, but were ignored by the critics. If Guns & Roses is in based on one album, then the Knack should be in also.

the chipmunks had three songs on chipmunk punk by them so I think they are worthy (that was just a joke)
but honestly, I think they were a good band but do they have enough influence?

The Knack and The Cars are two of the absolute tightest bands in history with some of the most amazing shredding of all instruments! Anyone who disagrees is not a connoisseur of true rock and roll.

Horribly mismanaged. They missed the Grammys, rushed out their second album, wasted a solid Springsteen song given to them, didn't properly tour America (they toured Japan?), and refused to give interviews to the media (so they got buried with the band's own Beatles comparison bs). The first album came out in June 1979 and the second album in Feb 1980. Album cycles used to be short, but this was insanely stupid. The first album had 2 hits and they should have released a third single ("That's what the little girls do"). "Baby talks dirty" was too similar to My Sharona and basically they kneecapped their own career in under a year. Fact is, first record is excellent and they were an excellent live band. My Sharona is a mega hit (it re-entered the Billboard top 100 after Reality Bites a decade plus later). That song could have sustained them at least for 6 months alone.
