I was at work today and realized "All Star," "Walking on the Sun," and their cover of "I'm a Believer" are on our work playlist. Smash Mouth will likely live on forever as this oddity of the late 90s early 2000s. A band that should be a footnote but thanks to a soundtrack placement has found themselves with a iconic meme.

They had a 4 year run as hitmakers, 2 multiplatinum albums, and one incredibly iconic song, it was one of the most-streamed rock songs from 2017 to 2021 in the US, that, while it maybe hasn't impacted music, has influenced internet art quite a bit and two more with lasting power as just likable songs.

With how many random 60s and 70s acts got inducted there is, weirdly, a decent chance the Shrek band might some day be in the hall.

good songs (and i do listen to multiple songs from this band, not just all star...) but very much a pop-rock band, and they haven't really inspired anybody (at least not to my knowledge). sure, they'll probably get in because so many people know them but they definitely dont deserve it

Just learned that Steve Harrell, the old lead singer of the band, is im hospice with liver failure. His manager says he likely has a week to live. This doesn't mean jack shit for their chances but still it sucks and its kinda sad.

I feel like the influence Smash Mouth has had with All Star being in Shrek could have them being thought of as a possible inductee. Though it being more of a meme could question if they actually meet the standards of the hall. I feel like if Weird Al ever gets inducted, artists with more meme songs could possibly be more likely to be inducted down the line, as an artist that is more comical has already been inducted..
