They weren't even the first female rappers to go platinum.....that would be JJ Fad and 'Supersonic'.

I agree with mike. Queen Latifah and MC Lyte are definitely in the conversation before Salt n Pepa.

Salt N Pepa were the first female rappers with a platinum album. These young ladies put in the work back then to make themselves viable in the male dominated field and then they turned to writing and producing themselves, which female rappers do not do at all, and prduced their biggest hits. If any rapper deserves the induction, its these ladies. Love them.

Most definitely they deserve a place in the rock hall. They were one of the best selling and longest lasting rap act of their Era . Not to mention their influence expanded far beyond rap.

Pioneers and major hit makers (with a message). They broke down all walls for every female rapper that came after. The weren't afraid to rap about controversial topics and taboos. They have many songs that have stood the test of time. I would really likethem to at least be nominated

Saw Salt 'n Papa as part of NKOTB's Mixtape Tour the other night. This was one of the highlights, I admit. Of the five acts I saw, Salt 'n Pepa were the only one that would very likely be enshrined into the Hall someday. Not only do they still have the moves (and voices, as well as rapping), they still have the beat. They even had a decent career that I believe lasted for a decade. Not bad for a group whose roots go back to working at Sears. I think its safe to say they were one of the few acts that burst out onto the rap scene during its "experimental" era, and would later become a pop sensation. But like all the other pop acts, they disappeared.

I do hope they become the first female rap act to get into the Hall someday (and please, don't even say Blondie is...).

Since they're starting to branch out into inducting Hip Hop artists, why not? Missy Elliot got in and should open those doors for more female Hip Hop acts to get in. Salt-N-Pepa are one of the firsts acts to bring attention to female artists in the Hip Hop industry. They should absolutely be considered for being Trail Blazers for females in Hip Hop.

Salt n Pepa should have been the first woman of rap I be inducted. So many first, to go gold or platinum, to go top 40, to top the charts internationally, to headline a tour, to win a Grammy, to have a multi-platinum album. They've opened the doors for every female rapper of the past 30 years. One of the biggest groups in hip hop period.

Very odd they're early influences since they weren't the first influential female rap group, that would be The Sequence. Also, they're sure as hell being marketed by the Hall as performers.

Salt N Pepa are well deserved to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The crime here is that, like Kraftwerk, Judas Priest and others, they should've been a full main performer inductee instead of getting sidedoored. Especially without even seeing the ballot proper.
