Six of the seven Peter Cetera studio albums are pure pop rock and love balladry albums. His second album though is a whole other story. Solitude/Solitaire (produced by Michael Omartian) is mostly an upbeat synth album, with the exception of the number one hits, Glory of Love and Next Time I Fall, and another track called Only Love Knows Why, which sounds like a knock-off of Glory of Love. Solitude/Solitaire is my favourite Peter Cetera album, but I would have placed the songs on the album in a different order. 5 of the 9 songs on the album sound like they could have been used in a strip club movie with a pole dancer: Big Mistake, They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To, Queen of the Masquerade Ball, Solitude/Solitaire and Wake Up To Love. Daddy's Girl was used in the Three Men and a Baby movie. My favourite track on the Solitude/Solitaire album is Wake Up To Love. You should check it out, it will really get you in the mood. Whenever I go to a strip club I pay the DJ to play Wake Up To Love while the stripper is pole dancing on stage. The song could have been used in Flashdance.

Peter Cetera's third solo album, his second after leaving Chicago, was called One More Story. 7 of the 10 tracks on the album are upbeat: One Good Woman, Best of Times, Body Language (There In The Dark), Peace of Mind, Save Me, You Never Listen To Me, and Scheherazade. The rest are ballads. When I first heard the Arabic intro to Desert Rose by Sting performed by Cheb Mami in 2001 I thought to myself, "Hey, Peter Cetera did that 13 years earlier with Scheherazade (Madonna on backing vocals). Made me wish he had made a music video for it with Madonna the way Sting did for Desert Rose with Cheb Mami. I have not been able to find anyone who could tell me what the Arabic words are for the opening of Scheherazade, or who is singing it. Maybe it's Peter Cetera himself. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd plays guitar on You Never Listen To Me. Bonnie Raitt plays guitar on Save Me. Album produced by Patrick Leonard. Body Language (There In The Dark) is about sleeping with prostitutes or any stranger you meet on the street or in a club. Check it out.

Peter Cetera's fourth solo album was his best. World Falling Down was released in 1992, the same year that Leonard Cohen released The Future, Elton John released The One, 'Weird Al' Yankovic released Off The Deep End and Go West released Indian Summer and I was in 7th and 8th grade. World Falling Down was recorded in London, which would explain how Peter Sinfield of King Crimson got involved in this project, as well as two of Elton John's lyricists: Bernie Taupin and Gary Osborne. For World Falling Down, Peter Sinfield co-wrote Have You Ever Been In Love, while Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics for Dip Your Wings, and Gary Osborne co-wrote The Last Place God Made. Joseph Williams of Toto and son of STAR WARS conductor John Williams co-wrote Man In Me. The album was produced by Andy Hill. Unlike his three previous albums in which he wrote most of the songs, Peter Cetera only wrote four of the ten songs on World Falling Down: World Falling Down, Where There's No Tomorrow and the hit singles, Restless Heart and Even A Fool Can See. The third hit was the second single, Feels Like Heaven, a duet with Chaka Khan. The music video for Restless Heart features Peter Cetera's daughter, Claire.

I've actually wondered who did that opening line in Scheherazade myself. While Cheb Mami sang the opening of "Desert Rose" in Algerian Arabic, you may have a better shot finding out the meaning of the words in "Scherezade" by looking for a Persian origin. That opening line doesn't sound like Arabic of any major dialect to my ears. It sounds like an American singing Persian.

It also sounds an awful lot like Cetera to my ears. Whoever is singing doesn't go for a traditional Persian sound, and seems to have a fuller more Westernized voice, and that weird trademark echo like rest on higher notes that I associate with Cetera. Which leads me to think it was him.

If I had to take a stab at the words I might point at the opening lines from the story collections of Arabian Nights which is what Scheherazde famously narrated to save her own life. So maybe something from the Persian version of that. Cetera was pretty damn clever so I wouldn't be surprised if he tipped his hat to that legend in a song named after that Queen.

Although I want to add I think Cetera gets some unnecessary hate for his Pop music, the man was a great collaborator and respected so many musicians.

Peter Cetera's fifth solo album, his fourth after leaving Chicago, was 1995's One Clear Voice, which was later re-released in 2005 as Faithfully. The album follows in the same vein as 1992's World Falling Down. Includes duets with actress Crystal Bernard of Wings, and country singer Ronna Reeves. Includes a remake of Chicago's Happy Man, which was written by Peter Cetera. Best songs on the album were The End of Camelot and Faithfully. Includes remake of ABBA's S.O.S. I Wanna Take Forever Tonight co-written by Eric Carmen. The song, One Clear Voice could have been used for an AT&T telephone commercial.

The man is one of Rock's all time greatest vocalists and not only one of Rock's all time greatest bass players but is also one of Jazz's all time greatest bass players.

I have a challenge question about both Chicago and Peter Cetera. If they were nominated would their peers vote them in? Before you answer that question you might want to do a little homework first. Remember that before Chicago PC was in a group called the Exceptions. Who have they collaborated with? Who have they peformed with? Who has covered their songs? (If you leave Me Now has more than 100 covers) Now look at that list and start checking who has Grammies and who is already in the RRHOF.

On some perspective, it took years for Genesis to get in. Only four years after, Peter Gabriel got in. So you never know. Peter Cetera didn't really do much besides being the singer-songwriter/adult contemporary type of guy.

If you look at the Song Hall website now, they removed Peter Cetera's name and picture from the inductees. I can't believe he wouldn't want to accept and be grateful for such a high honor. This would be denying your legacy because you can't get along with your former band mates. What an asshl.

I can tell you exactly what is going on. Berry Gordy was announced as an inductee to the 2016 Songwriters Hall of Fame, but he could not attend, so his induction was deferred to 2017. I think this is what Peter Cetera is doing. He doesn't want to be in the same room with the other members of Chicago, so he asked the Songwriters Hall of Fame to defer his induction to 2018, so he can perform alone.

I really hope this is the case.

Peter Cetera wants the Songwriters Hall of Fame to treat him exactly the same way they treated Paul McCartney and Phil Collins. Peter Cetera wants his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame to count for both, his work with Chicago and his solo career. He wants to perform songs from both periods at the ceremony. I hope this is the case and he gets defered to 2018.

Peter Cetera said on twitter that the Song Hall would not induct him unless he attended/performed at their ceremony. Then he said that he suspected something when they weren't inducting him individually but as part of Chicago. Then he said sorry I don't do reunions. Very sad! Unlike the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, the Songwriters Hall Of Fame won't mail you your trophy. You either attend the ceremony, or you won't be inducted. So Peter Cetera is not being deferred for 2018. Will the Songwriters Hall of Fame nominate Peter Cetera again, next time for his entire career, with and without Chicago? That's unknown!

Peter is singing to about 5 layered tracks of his voice. each one slightly detuned. Its why he sounds so amazing, and why 99% of musicians we hear in concert today are frauds.

Sequencer. He's singing along to 5+ slightly detuned pre-recorded tracks of his voice to make it sound 'fatter.' surprised you kids don't pick up on this.

There are plenty of videos and recordings of his live performances. There are several artist that have said he has a great voice and there are several artist that have worked with him after Chicago.

Personally I prefer to listen to his live versions. I feel the studio versions don't capture what I enjoy most about his voice.

This lasting legacy had its humble beginnings some thirty years prior: at the age of twelve, the future singer/songwriter had his first moment in the spotlight when his accordion skills won first prize at a local talent show. His radio debut occurred when a recording of the show was broadcast the following week. Unfortunately, the Cetera family didn’t have an FM receiver at the time, so they had to wait awhile to enjoy that experience.

A few years later, Peter finally bought the instrument he had originally requested and was playing guitar in a few bands throughout his high school years. As the bassist for Kal David and The Exceptions, he made his vinyl debut in 1964 with a cover of The Clovers’ “Searchin’” backed with a Jackie DeShannon song, “Daydreaming Of You,” on Vee-Jay’s Tollie subsidiary. “Come On Home” / “Dancing Danny” would emerge nearly a year later, and while the single did little to improve the band’s -- or the floundering Vee-Jay’s -- fortunes, the a-side provided Cetera with his first writing credit.

Kal David decamped shortly thereafter and Peter and Marty Grebb kept the band busy doing studio work behind some of Vee-Jay’s legendary soul stars. Rebilled as The Exceptions, they were prolific in 1966: they released an EP entitled Rock ‘N’ Mass for the local Flair label, an excellent cover of Dick Campbell’s “Ask Me If I Care” for Mercury produced by Lou Reizner, and another 45 -- a Grebb original called “As Far As I Can See” backed with a cover of The Beach Boys’ “The Girl From New York City” -- for the legendary Quill label. This last single grabbed the attention of Capitol Records who reissued it the following year, but by then Marty Grebb had already joined The Buckinghams.

With Peter the only original member, the name was singularized to The Exception and two more singles for Capitol came and went. One evening, The Exception played the opening of a Chicago club, sharing the bill with The Big Thing, a band looking for a new bassist. Peter took the job. The Big Thing signed to Columbia and became Chicago Transit Authority, and one of the biggest selling acts of the ‘70s was born.

The seeds of Peter’s first solo album were sown at a time of waning success and big changes for Chicago. Peter recently described the band’s music as the Seventies came to a close as “pseudo jazz,” and he was anxious to step away from it. In 1981, as the band took a brief hiatus after leaving their long-time label, Columbia, for Warner Bros.’ Full Moon imprint, he took the opportunity to record his self-titled debut. The uncharacteristically heavy “Livin’ In The Limelight” was produced as the first single, but its standing at pop radio failed to match its #6 placing on the Mainstream Rock listings. The label issued an edited version of “On The Line” before moving on to the promotion of Chicago 16. That album brought the band back to platinum status on the strengths of the Cetera and David Foster co-writes “Love Me Tomorrow” and Hard To Say I’m Sorry,” the latter which became the act’s second #1 pop hit after “If You Leave Me Now” -- another Cetera composition.

Chicago’s return to the airwaves and upper reaches of the Top 40 with songs primarily penned and sung by Peter Cetera led to him becoming the face of the band in videos aimed at an audience too young to know much about the act’s history. It seemed to be the perfect time for Peter to re-launch a separate career, which would allow him time for a solo album in between Chicago releases. While that sort of arrangement was reaping big rewards for both Phil Collins and Genesis (as well as their record companies), the other members of Chicago, their management, and their label all balked at the idea. When presented with a document requiring a commitment to the band’s next album and tour, he agreed under the assumption that once those commitments were met, he would be allowed his solo turn. However, after the release and promotion of Chicago 17 and its four Top 20 singles, Peter was again asked to set aside his solo plans for the sake of the band, and this time it was he who balked. Faced with another ultimatum, he stood firm and his time with the band came to an end.

Shortly after his departure, Peter was approached by the producers of the upcoming Rocky IV to write the theme song, but the result ultimately went unused. When The Karate Kid 2 team approached him for a contribution, he made some changes to the lyric and “Glory Of Love” became the movie theme and a highlight of his new solo album. Cetera’s timing couldn’t have been better: the single and accompanying video that featured scenes from the movie were released in May, allowing time for radio and MTV to catch on just as advertisements for the film began to saturate all media outlets. When the Solitude/Solitaire album and the Karate Kid 2 movie were released within days of each other at the end of June, the single was already climbing up the Hot 100 on its way to a two-week stay at #1. To capitalize on the success, the label remixed “The Next Time I Fall,” Peter’s duet with Amy Grant, and it too topped the Hot 100. While “Big Mistake” and “Only Love Knows Why” were extracted next, they didn’t match the peaks of their predecessors. Solitude/Solitaire was an undeniable success, peaking at #23 on the Billboard album chart, receiving gold record certification within months of its release, and continuing to sell steadily enough to reach platinum status fifteen years later. Adding to the prestige, “Glory Of Love” received nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy. “The Next Time I Fall” also garnered a Grammy nod.

A true rarity in his canon is “Stay With Me,” Peter’s contribution to a Japanese film entitled Princess Of The Moon. Peter and his good friend, Bobby Caldwell (who also penned “The Next Time I Fall”), co-produced the track, but with no U.S. distribution of the film, the song was never released in the States. The single version -- issued only in Japan and Germany -- is included here, along with Peter’s ode to his daughter, “Daddy’s Girl,” which was featured on the flipside, and understandably remains a favorite of the artist.

For his next album, One More Story, Peter chose Patrick Leonard to co-produce. Leonard was an extremely hot commodity after his work on Madonna’s mega-platinum True Blue LP. “One Good Woman” was released in July 1988, preceding the album by a few weeks, and was enthusiastically embraced at pop radio, ultimately climbing to #4. Taking note of the lyric “You could read me like a book, like a fortune teller,” it should come as no surprise to learn that the song was originally commissioned for the film Big, but inexplicably didn’t make the final cut. 1988 was a year of many changes in pop music, which may be why the next single, “Best Of Times,” didn’t find an audience, but the album track “Save Me” is one of Peter’s most recognizable songs thanks to its later use as the opening theme to Baywatch.

It would be six months before his next record began to blanket the airwaves. Another film-related song and another duet, “After All” was the love theme from Chances Are, a romantic comedy starring Cybill Shepherd and Robert Downey, Jr. Teamed up with the legendary Cher, the power of the two iconic voices together proved too strong to be denied and the ballad became a Top 10 hit and Adult Contemporary chart-topper, despite the underwhelming reception the film received at the box office.

Taking time off to adjust to some major changes in his life, three years passed before World Falling Down hit the shops amid the rise of hip-hop and the glory days of grunge. The album brought Bucks Fizz producer Andy Hill into the collaborative fold and reunited Peter with Chicago producer David Foster. Accompanied by a beautiful video that included his daughter Claire, the album’s first single “Restless Heart” topped out at #35 on the Pop chart, but became Peter’s fifth and final number one at Adult Contemporary. “Feels Like Heaven,” a duet with busy label-mate Chaka Khan, and “Even A Fool Can See” followed but had little impact on the Hot 100 despite being huge A/C hits. The Full Moon label having finally folded, Peter and Warner Bros. parted ways shortly thereafter.

As an original member of Chicago, Peter was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016 and the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2017, and continues to perform to rapturous crowds throughout the world. He is often surprised to discover that the songs of his 50+-year career still mean so much to so many.

On Peter Cetera's first solo album there is a song called "Living in the Limelight" This album was released seven months after Rush's Moving Pictures. By the way, Neil Peart's birthday is September 12, 1952 while Cetera's birthday is September 13, 1943

Peter Cetera's 5th album "One Clear Voice" released in 1995 by River North Records (Mercury) which folded in 1998. A subsidiary of Platinum Entertainment, which went defunct in 2001 & became Compendia Music Group, was acquired in 2004 by Sheridan Square Entertainment.

Compendia re-released the "One Clear Voice" album in 2005 as "Faithfully" with a different cover picture. The album had the same 11 songs, but ordered differently. Both versions of this album are still in print for purchase on CD, but only "Faithfully" is available for purchase on iTunes.
