47 comments so far (post your own)30 plus years in the industry, loyal following, great music, had a lot of adversity, achieved a level of success that only few have enjoyed, this is HALL OF FAME MATERIAL. New Edition is the best R and B group ever and one of the original boy bands. Again 6 members of the group who all have been successful individually, classic records through the 80s 90s 2000s that still recieve air play on major radio stations. The day will come soon when people began to ask why and why not. This is America's first and only Supergroup. Find me a group that had six members who were successful before and after the group broke up and regained success when they joined forces again. Bobby Brown , Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv Devoe. That is a lot of power in one group and together they are New Edition. Do the right thing and put them in, this is a no brainer. You mean to tell me that rap artist are better than New Edition who has been in the industry 30 plus years, i don't understand it. Again the only group in the U. S. to have 6 members have individual success , each selling 1 million plus records while not with group and coming back together to sell millions of records. That has never been done ever. New Edition most definitely should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are the blueprint for the modern day boy band be it in pop, hip-hop or R&B. They were able to successfully merge R&B, hip-hop and rap by being one of the few R&B acts to be successful following the popularity of hip-hop and rap in the 1990s. They were also able to break off into separate successful acts and then come back together and still be successful as a group. No other boy band, including the Jacksons, can say that all of their solo acts were successful and influential. They are now being introduced to another generation, almost 35 years later and are as successful, relevant and influential as ever. Induct these legends!!! Roy on New edition in my opinion is the best boy band group ever. When new edition started their careers no other boy bands of this type existed. They have so much talent in that one group bobby brown fantastic performer created bad boy image that so many copied rappers, Justin Bieber,Chris brown etc., One of the most dynamic stage performers, Ralph tresvant great falsetto voice and sung most of the leads, johnny gill has such a strong voice and great solo career, bel biv Devo three group members who had separate solo career then Micheal bivens became producer and successful manager for new edition who had been cheated out of money and produced boys to men and other talent. No other group has this talent!!!! Then came new kids on the block who had same choreographer and manager as new edition,back street boys, n sync who all were similar to new edition. New edition should be in rock n roll hall of Fame and Kennedy center honors representing boy bands from this generation. There are other great boy bands from other eras Jackson five, Beach boys, four seasons, temptations, four tops and Beatles were great but new edition paved the way for current generation boy bands and individual singers (ralph, bobby,johnny, bel biv review,).No boy bands groups have so much super talent in one group. When I was 11 yrs.old my whole world changed when I first heard New Edition. Their music as been in every part of my life. I'm 50 now and to still feel this way is life I'm 11 all over again. I can remember where I was or what I was doing when I heard a New Edition song. Not only that we where blessed to get BBD , Johnny Gill, Bobby Brown, & Ralph Tresvant yaaaaassssss!! All that talent!! I've been a fan of New Edition from the first time I heard Candy Girl and in my opinion, they are one of the best R&B groups EVER! They not only sing, but their choreography is ALWAYS on point. They have been in the business for a very long time and because of their longevity alone, they should have BEEN inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They even deserve to be the main performers at the Superbowl, which would probably be the best Superbowl event Ever. Give these beautiful, talented souls their flowers while they're still here. I am most certainly proud of the ones who are no longer here, but are being inducted posthumously but that's just it, they are no longer here..... New Edition is still here, performing top notch. It's a travesty and shame that The first Of the modern day Boy Bands has not been entered into the hall of fame. Makes no sense at all. Honestly, seriously if they were eligible in 09, they should have been in by 09. They put Run DMC, NWA & 2 Pac in before New Edition. All the best groups out there are less than New Edition and only The Beatles is a safer comparison. Their 88-92 run is legendary. You don't even have 90s RNB with out New Edition. Look at how the 80s started and ended. All those big 90s RNB acts didn't come from the 80s, only New Edition & Michael Jackson did. Rock N Roll fame is late. New Edition came on the seen as the predecessor of the now fading out older boy band the the Jackson. They re-revolutionized the boy band era with massive success. Still going strong as a group with all members having individual success. In the R and B / pop world it is beyond understanding why New Edition hasn't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They're vocals are still crisp with impeccable dance moves. They seriously need to re evaluate their contribution to the genre. It will be disrespectful if NKOTB, 98 DEGREE, NSYNC or BACKSTREET BOYS get inducted into the RRHF before the group that ushered in with success of the boy band era. New Edition definitely deserve to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame it's a no brainer they have been around 40 plus years loved by all in America and aboard they should have been in years ago they are the best boy band ever and are still this day and still sound and look good. I just seen them in Vegas in November and they put on the best show ever better than the artist out here today. They deserve their flowers while they are still here. New Edition is a force. They have been on the music industry for 40+ years. They are still able to sell out major arenas. The men are on tour right now. Their dance moves are just as tight today than they were 40+ yrs ago. Each member has a successful solo career. Their love for each other,the music,and the fansgot them back together. They had three epic nights on BET with The New Edition Story. My niece became a huge fan of New Edition after watching their story. Give the guys what they deserve. This group have six Individual talented members. This group has the largest fan based and Sold out concert tickets every time they perform around the world. I've been a candy girl since 1983 and would love to see New Edition inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not only is New Edition the blueprint of the modern day boyband. They effortlessly bridged the "old and new" with moves as smooth as the Temptations and moves that would influence all of the other boybands that followed (NKOTB, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and so on and so on). New Edition has been part of the soundtrack of so many lives for over 40 decades. They are constantly referenced in pop culture and they have a huge range in the music genre and if u are blessed enough to see them perform there is nothing like their dancing skills, outfits and magic. There seems to be a discrepancy with the qualification list. It seems to be missing the Headline major festival box which would be incorrect. New Edition has headlined the Essence Music Festival for multiple years. Essence Music Festival is indeed a major festival. I have followed them every since 83. They are icons. Their names are sketched in our brains. RONNIE BOBBY RICKY MIKE RALPH and JOHNNY. Their dance steps would be recognized immediately even with no music. People are making homemade videos,wedding videos,music videos using NE dance steps . They are very deserving to be in the RRHOF. I have been advocating for New Edition to inducted into the RRHOF for a couple of years now. Upon my first visit to the hall of fame and I voted at the voice your choice booth, I learned that NE had never been nominated for the RRHOF. This is so disheartening for a group that has been entertaining for 40 plus years and are currently still performing to sold out venues. There music continues to reach a multitude of genres today. Upon my visit I read a sign in the 80's room regarding New Edition. It stated..September 28th / New Edition, the self titles 2nd studio album by the quintet was released and reached #1 on the R&B HIP HOP albums chart... it further stated that New Edition is considered to be the blueprint for the modern boy band. Groups like New Kids On The Block and Boys ll Men. New Edition had me dancing, and laughing, and singing at 10 years old, in my teen years, my twenties and still listening and going to their concerts in my 50's. New Edition are living legends for sure. There is no other group who has set the blueprint for boy bands who has had the success of being a group spawning several acts within the group individually and maintaining friendship and continuing as a group for over 40 years. Still touring, still selling out arenas it is an atrocity that New Edition is just now a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They should have been in. I was a mere three years old when Candy Girl spoke to me in the 80s and a fan ever since. Their induction performance for the Spinners is one of the top performances ever. This is a Group that deserves to be Inducted like yesterday and are at the top of the fan voting because they are who we know, love, and respect and will continue to support rock with at every concert for life.
