I can't believe Neil Young is not in the U.S. or Canadian Songwriters Halls of Fame yet!

Been listening to Le Noise (2010) quite a bit lately and really digging it, particularly the ragged, haphazard guitar work. Endearingly unpolished album.

DarinRG - I too have been listening to much of Neil Young's recent work and I have to say he hasn't lost a beat. Truly one of the greatest artists of all time, he appears to be like a fine wine that gets better with age.

One great example of this came on a recent track on Americana (2012) with Crazy Horse. The track is a cover of "Get a Job" by The Silhouettes. An old and drab 50's doo-wop song that is really dated and essentially forgotten today. Neil and Crazy Horse took this outdated song and revolutionized it by turning it into a ragged folk tune with incredible distorted guitar work. Also Young's vocals on it are nearly perfect. One of those rare covers that are much better than the original.

And that, my friends, is a textbook oxymoron. Let's face it, Squeal Young isn't exactly going to give Caruso, Mercury, or Eckstine (to name but three objectively-recognized great singers) any competition.

That aging like wine comment gave me a good chuckle too. There truly is no accounting for taste.

His later career albums have gotten so bad that you can go back to his average unsuccessful records (silver and gold, reactor, broken arrow, hawks and doves, trans) and they are light years better than what he has produced from 2000 on. And he keeps producing more and more. His archival releases have been mostly letdowns (releasing the best parts separately before the box set is actually released milks his fan base). Toast is the only real album upgrade vs the original release. His voice is shot, but I don't see him stopping anytime soon.
