So, "mbv", the "Chinese Democracy" of Alt Rock has finally surfaced after a 22 year wait.

The album is very good. The 16.99 price tag for a 9 song digital download was a bit of a middle finger to fans who have waited patiently for a couple decades, but the album itself was well worth the wait.

NGL it's super dumb that MBV is listed with a higher percentage of likelihood to be inducted over Cocteau Twins who created what made MBV's music possible. No Dream Pop, no shoegaze. Especially since Cocteau Twins had plenty of songs with distortion on them too.

I doubt they will ever be considered by the Rock Hall.

They have one extremely important album, and its significance will only increase as time goes on.

However, I think their musical style fundamentally contradicts the aims of the nominating committee. The nominating committee has already made major alternative and indie acts like Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Duran Duran wait many years before being inducted.

Cult heroes, acts far more famous than MBV, such as Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, Devo, and The Replacements... are difficult, if not almost impossible, to get voted in. Pixies, Sonic Youth, and Pavement... are even far from being nominated.

They should be in, but the Rock Hall will never let them in.

The Rock Hall seems to be biased against alternative and indie music. Even major acts like The Cure and Depeche Mode had to wait forever to be inducted. The Hall is especially reluctant to include cult heroes like Joy Division/New Order or Devo. Rock Hall had to nominate them, but not induct them, because their importance is too great to ignore forever, even though the Hall clearly does not want them.

Therefore, I believe MBV will never be considered, which is a real pity. They absolutely deserve to be included. They released one of the most important albums of the 1990s (ranked in the top 100 of Rolling Stone's greatest albums list), and that alone should be enough to justify their induction.

I wholeheartedly disagree that Joy Division/New Order classify as "cult heroes". They were huge in the UK, and in many other parts of the world as well. They frequently would be a second line performer on festivals, and they were HUGELY influential on people. There is a reason they are listed so highly on snubs. I'm on much more of a personal crusade with Cocteau Twins, since they pretty much helped set the stage for the entire dream pop/shoegaze movement. Creating a subgenre that is hugely influential on many people is a great reason to get into the RRHOF.
