Although, Mr. Hartford had for the most part a rather cult following he was probably the first one to mix "hippie ideology" with the laid back style of bluegrass and country. He painted a romantic picture of the south as well as Mark Twain or even Tennesee Williams (Hartford cousin), while still being able to maintain his own identity.
