Spoken in true ignorance.

Ivory Joe has a chance to be inducted in the Early Influence category, and while it would only serve to blur the lines a bit, it would be a defensible position to take.

James Brown was a pioneer of rock and roll. When I had the opportunity to work with him in 1979 and 80 on a live album we made in Japan, I mentioned during the mixing sessions that he was one of the reasons I got into the music business, and that so many great performers were influenced by his music, work ethic and style. Needless to say, he agreed. But when I asked him who his greatest influence was, he seemed put off at first.
"Influence?" he asked me, incredulously. "I am THE influence!"
But when I pressed further, a while later, he took out from his wallet a faded photo of himself in a band, sitting behind a trap kit with a bass drum that was gigantic. Pointing to a man at seated at a piano next to him, he asked, "You know who this is?"
"No sir," I replied.
"That there is Ivory Joe Hunter," he told me. "And he was the influence for all of us. That man invented rock and roll."
So I'm guessing if Ivory Joe is good enough for Mr. Brown, he should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Just sayin'.

USA what are you thinking!!
Ivy Jo has been over looked for way too long. C'mon it's time to own up. You dropped the ball with this one.
Do what's right and this stuck up Brit will forgive you.
