Never mind Cliff Richard & The Shadows' genuine Rock and Roll creed from 1958 to 1962 which has inspired a generation of British Invasion bands from Beatles to Zeppelin, and all the other accomplisments.
That fact is that nobody in the US really knows or have heard about these first European rock stars who basically were the only performers to produce pure rock and roll hits globally from 1959 to 1962 in other words, since Elvis went O Solo Mio with Hall Wallis and the other original rockers either went to jail, gospel, country or My-Name-Is-Bobby-Too pop ballader or sadly died in that time period.
So forget about it or start a legitimate Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame elsewhere.
Alex Lifeson from Rush got it right about this particular Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's incompetence and ignorance in his acceptance speech: "Bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla ,bla, bla, bla , bla,bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla,bla... which he repeated for 3 minutes which just about sums it up!

In 1963 the # 1 money making band in the world was Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Elvis was at #2 and The Shadows were at #3. Now, for the Shadows 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Cliff Richard just released his 100th album and Hank B. Marvin has a new CD out this year (2014), so these guys are still playing. They made movies and were on TV in Europe every week for years. Most of the great British guitarists name Marvin as a principal inspiration. Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Clapton, Knopfler and David Gilmour to name a few. Cliff and the Shadows celebrated 50 years in the business in 2008 with a great live show. Wake up America.

Unfortunately it takes a non-US artist so incredably much more to even be considered, let alone be induced, in this rather inbread society. Actually it just goes to show the American's extremely limited concept of The WORLD. Not having induced Sir Cliff and The Shadows just goes to show the appaling narrowmindness of this selfcentered group of barely competent people. Had in not been for Hank B. Marvin of The Shadows no European teen male would ever have touched a guitar and the "British Invasion" never would have taken place. Is this the Americans way of getting back at the music that changed the world outside of their control?

Cliff Richard, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett should have been inducted long ago. .

Clif has had an unassailable tally of over 150 hits in his 60 year career, and the Shadows inspired most of the 60s beat groups, and many guitarists since, to start playing

I have found it impossibly insane that Cliff Richard & The Shadows as a group have not been inducted into the RRHOF!! In addition, I also find it ridiculous that The Shadows have not been inducted as a band in their own right. What I find additionally abhorrent is that Sir Cliff Richard has not additionally been inducted as a Multiple Record Breaking Solo artist. They all should have double inductions.

John Lennon famously once said, before Cliff & The Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to from British Music. Sting has said that Cliff Richard is one of the best vocalists in the world. Freddie Mercury and the rest of Queen were inspired by Cliff Richard. Freddie used to pretend to be Cliff before they were famous.

Aside from these few accolades I am mentioning, the vast accolades mentioned by everyone else on here about their influence on just about every legendary artist, guitarist, band singer East of the US, There are the ongoing facts. Cliff Richard turned 80 last year. He has another sell out tour, they always sell out in record time, (postponed from last year) starting Oct 2021. A record breaking #3 Album in 2020, a career spanning 63 years and still counting. There is just too much more and loads that have already been mentioned by other posters. Whether you do or don't like their music, doesn't matter. Both the Shadows, and certainly Sir Cliff have more than earned the respect of everyone. Their peers are certainly not afraid to say it. The originators of original British Rock n Roll.

The RRHOF is guilty of a massive miscarriage of justice. They should have been inducted the same time as Elvis was. Without a doubt. With All due respect to Mr. Presley, he was inducted posthumously. Cliff has continued clocking up the hits, keeping up the trends, breaking records and selling out arenas around the world 45 years after The King.
RRHOF is supposed to be documenting and celebrating Rock n Roll and music, successful artists from around the world!! The world doesn't start and finish with the US.
While Cliff never broke into the US, they missed out on an undisputed legend who has Rocked his way around the rest of the world and also become The most famous Rocking and Rolling Christian East of the States, next to The Pope and Mother Teresa!
It is a known fact that Sir Cliff Richard is the 2nd Biggest solo artist in the entire world next to only Elvis. He is the 3rd biggest selling artist (solo or group) of all time.
How in the world can the RRHOF possibly justify in the first place, and continue to justify their lack of acknowledgement to this living legend? How do they manage to live with this hypocritical stain on what they are supposed to be about?
Cliff never talks about it, but at the same time I have never heard an interviewer ask either. I bet though that it grates him as much as it does everyone else.
This/these inductions are deserved above and beyond anyone else's by now and are at least 40 years overdue.
RRHOF need to get their act together.

Totally agree with Lyndon (4.4.21).
It's a travesty that Cliff Richard hadn't been inducted into the RRHOF.
He's 80 now and still rocking! Come on - do it now - we don't want it done posthumously like Elvis. If Elvis was still alive at 80 I very much doubt he would be capable of rocking like Cliff does.
Give Cliff the credit he deserves!!

Cliff Richard most certainly should be included. He is surely the UK's most successful popstar EVER as well as having international hits throughout his 60 year plus career. A true superstar in my opinion and I don't think there are or will be be many who can match this success.

Cliff Richard has been a very large part of the music industry in Britain and many other parts of the world since the 1950's and many singers followed on from him and have admitted Cliff was their inspiration, therefore he should be there.

As an American, I consider Sir Cliff Richard the best rock 'n' roll singer of all time, and the fact that he is still going strong after all this time and still putting out new music should be proof enough! Don't under estimate his fan base in America! No one deserves to be inducted more than Sir Cliff!

Last I heard on television interview show (and that was years ago) was that Cliff Richard had sold MORE than 350,000,000 (!!) record sales as opposed to (from memory) Stevie Wonder / Neil Sedaka of around 45 million. Plus The Shadows were a big part of that success as well on all those "Cliff Richard and The Shadows" recordings.
So . . . . here's the thing . . . . is it not unfair to use the title "Rock and Roll Hall of fame" when in fact it is "United States (only) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Think how many American artists would be crushed if Europe or UK tomorrow set up "The European/UK (only) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".
How can Cliff & Shadows be ignored with over 1/3 of a BILLION record sales when one is supposed to be promoting 'Rock and Roll' which means worldwide ??

Cliff Richard has always acknowledged America as the birthplace of Rock n Roll and Elvis Presley as his inspiration and the prototype for all rock n roll artistes. Inspired by Elvis, Cliff and the Shadows were without doubt, at the forefront of the British (and European) birth of Rock n Roll. The Shadows became the prototype for the 4 man rock band (Lead guitar, rhythm, bass and drums) with Hank Marvin being a pioneer and the inspiration for many guitar legends. At one time, record sales of Cliff and the Shadows accounted for 25pct of the entire EMI output. That is a staggering feat. And yet, they are not in the USA's Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. That fact is the most mind-boggling of all and doesn't say much for the committee which inducts musicians. Sir Cliff recently had a sell-out tour celebrating 65 years in the business and an album release in the British top 5. He is truly a rock legend.

Definitely England's "Elvis" with Move It, Pointed Toe Shoes, Twenty Flight Rock as examples. He is a minor Success in America compared to Europe, The Whole Asian Continent, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. The reason for this is the Limited number of Albums (UK Imports) distributed in the USA during the 1960's. Also his singles received very minimal airplay in the States. Radio Hit staples like Dreaming, It's All in the Game, Devil Woman, Summer Holiday, We don't talk anymore and Suddenly were considered and played. Cliff Richard Loved American writers and composers most especially the late Burt Bacharach. He has a fan base in the US but small although progressively building up members. Move It may have been the most influential rock song ever. It certainly is for Great Britain and most of Europe. Without it, we may not have had the Beatles or the Stones. Every future rock band was heavily influenced by this hit. But without Cliff Richard it wouldn't have been a hit of this magnitude.Like Richard this bit of music is almost a century old.I've watched the 1958 version by Cliff a thousand times, and it never gets boring .It was everything that rock 'n' roll is supposed to be now. You can see the self-confidence, attitude and sex, dripping off of Richard. Men were jealous, and it drove women crazy. I wish Cliff Richards's music had stayed in this direction. Cliff Richard should be in the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame on the merit of this one hit alone.

They missed their chance in late 80s or early 90s. He had allegations or something and now he is old and has to stop touring. As he likely can't perform or attend plus no relevance to today's TV audiences, he has no chance. His best chance at getting in is likely as an early influence immediately after his death.

I posted back in 2021 on Cliff's merits for getting into Rock Hall and he has continued to add to those over the last 5 years. Including breaking another World Record in charting history. Additionallly, the invaluable comments from fellow supporters of this travesty, of accolades that I didn't add, or feel the need to at the time. Now, OASIS, are being inducted this year, with L. Gallagher doing a u-turn on his previous comments rather than offering them to a deserved artist. Phil Collins, another whilst deserving, knows full well of Cliff's achievements does not speak up. It is frustrating the lack of support from fellow professionals
