yes, chubby belongs in. i grew up listening to chubby. i agree with his comments, about the museum could drop dead.i have fair legal authoritative use of dead pal al, the mad magazine guy, which includes college life wildcats. ive contacted phone numbers im given to get signed petitions on the web for the grass roots, al mellencamp scared of the phone when i contact about the petitions or finding the nominating committiee. im compiling a list of acts which belong in, which includes chubby6 checker. i send the material out when i apply for counseling jobs, and im sending to radio stations. While I am not the biggest supporter for Chubby Checker becoming a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is tough to argue against his induction. Even though he covered Hank Ballard and the Midnighters' "The Twist," he created one of the most popular and successful songs ever (it is still the #1 all-time leader on the Billboard Hot 100 chart history). He created the famous "Twist" dance and personified dance music in the early 1960s. With artists like Percy Sledge (who let's face Sledge is a one-hit wonder with the song "When a Man Loves a Woman" is probably the least deserving inductee in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Yes, Sledge had one great song but lacks any influence on future artists) enshrined in the Rock Hall, it is tough to argue against an eventual induction for Checker. Checker definitely has just as much influence (if not more) than Sledge. While it's true that Checker is not a one-hit wonder (he had several other top 40 hits in the early 1960s), how many people can name another song of his besides "The Twist"? Very, very few. This is a similar problem for Sledge and often why he becomes an instant target for fans to criticize the Rock Hall for inducting someone who "isn't worthy." He's not in? Posted by BulmaPunkRocker on Monday, 07/7/2014 @ 00:56am |
Yes, Nick, he had one major hit. But man, what a hit--still played by disc jockeys at parties across the country, still danced to by, what, three generations of rock music fans. Bulma, I had a hard time believing myself that he wasn't already inducted. If anyone on the nominating committee is reading these posts, please throw your support behind Chubby Checker. Posted by |

There are many changes taking place in the Rock Hall and the latest news is not good. Of course, Chubby Checker should be inducted! As a Founding Member, I am so disappointed. Please read this article. Posted by Kariann on Sunday, 07/5/2015 @ 07:50am |

I'd like to see Chubby Checker inducted to the HOF so he can sing Ride My See-Saw with the Moody Blues and Hey Hey We're The Monkees with Micky Dolenz. (sarcasm font) Posted by Classic Rock on Tuesday, 10/4/2016 @ 22:25pm |

Regardless how members of his band feel, Chubby Checker is deserving of induction. His version of The Twist is still played at weddings and other celebrations. I've written in the past. Now, that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has acknowledged the importance of "The Twist", they should induct the one person who made the dance craze what it was! People from 8 to 80 (and older) can't help but dance when they hear this song. Posted by Kariann Hart on Monday, 05/28/2018 @ 02:04am |

I can see him get in as an early influence Posted by Michael on Sunday, 10/14/2018 @ 16:34pm |
Chubby Checker is the only artist to have a song go to #1 on the Billboard hot 100 pop charts, then go completely off the charts and return to the Billboard pop charts and reach #1 again! He also holds a number of records. It would be a shame if they wait until he dies before putting him in the Rock Hall. (he just turned 77) Posted by Larry Karoll on Monday, 10/15/2018 @ 12:25pm |
This is taking too long! Posted by |
It is my belief that Chubby Checker will be inducted after he passes away. For some reason, the Rock Hall doesn't want him to enjoy all the fuss induction would bring. I was angry that they waited until Donna Summer passed on before inducting her (after 7 previous attempts). I hope I'm around to see it. He is a good entertainer. I fear you're right Antoinette. But I think even then they might still not. But they definitely don't wanna put up with the venom he'd unleash, it wouldn't be a thank-you speech, it'll be a f*** you speech. Posted by Philip on Friday, 06/14/2019 @ 00:18am |
Chubby's neglect is a great travesty. Hit after hit, the only artist to place a song (The Twist) twice at number one, that great Cameo-Parkway back-up band, a Dick Clark push, fun danceable music. Chubby's Philly rock started the whole dance craze. Plus, there's many, many artists in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame who aren't even rock and roll. I am honestly surprised that Chubby Checker is not even mentioned in the snubs in this FRL site. He may have been around for only one craze, but it was a big one. I have a feeling he will be, like Lou Reed, Donna Summer and others, inducted posthumously. I hope not. Posted by |
This is a crime! Chubby needs to be in the rock and roll hall of fame . I am a white guy and in an important time when BLM we need to right the wrongs and the hall of fame is no different. Do the right thing, he is 79 years old, and deserves this honor Posted by KNac on Tuesday, 11/24/2020 @ 11:36am |

Chubby Checker made Hank Ballard's song an international hit. If Mr. Ballard is in the Hall of Fame so should be the man who who made "The Twist" a hit. Some people call Chubby Checker a novelty act. That is cold. He had other Top 10 Hits in his career. Some people act that The Twist was his only success. Other big time artists recorded Twist songs, like Sam Cooke or even The Isley Brothers. In fact didn't The Beatles have an international hit with "Twist & Shout" originally done by the Isley Brothers? None of these other successes may never have transpired is Chubby Checker's record failed. The Twist was big business. Jackie Kennedy & other famous celebrities frequented The Peppermint Lounge to dance the night away, among other things. Joey Dee & The Starlighters who performed at The Peppermint Lounge had a hit record called "The Peppermint Twist." One of the bands members was future Oscar winner Joe Pesci. Who knows mabye Mr. Pesci never gets the chance to get noticed if Chubby Checker's recording of " The Twist" was a flop. Posted by Joseph Lemko on Saturday, 07/29/2023 @ 02:07am |

I think it's safe to say hell has frozen over, or that pigs can fly. Chubby has finally made it to the ballot! Not sure if he is a complete lock though. Thoughts? Posted by Jason Voigt on Wednesday, 02/12/2025 @ 10:31am |
I thought Chubby Checker was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame a long time ago because the song "The Twist" was from the 1960s. Posted by Brian Schonour on Wednesday, 02/12/2025 @ 17:25pm |

Chubby Checker's nomination is a good sign. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not finished with nominating 50s-60s acts in the main performers category. One per year I guess. Jan & Dean, and the Monkees, should be next. Chubby Checker has tons of support. He will get inducted this year. No special category! The fact that Chubby Checker is doing better than The Black Crowes, Outkast, Mariah Carey, Oasis, The White Stripes, Joy Division/New Order, and Mana, on the fan poll, says a lot!! Posted by |
Chubby Checker is doing way better than Dionne Warwick did in her two nominations! Posted by |
ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES WHO WILL VOTE FOR CHUBBY CHECKER Posted by |
Chequered! is a studio album released by American singer Chubby Checker. Released by London Records in 1971, it is notable for being a stylistically different approach for Checker, opting for the more psychedelic sound that was popular at the time. It was produced by Ed Chalpin, who was known for giving Jimi Hendrix his first recording contract. Posted by |

After leaving Cameo-Parkway Records, Chubby Checker started writing most of his own songs, and he produced four more studio albums. He wrote all 11 songs for his 1971 album, Chequered!, while other writers provided songs for his 1982 album, The Change Has Come. Chubby Checker co-wrote 4 out of the 15 songs on his next album, The Texas Twist, from 1994, and then wrote all 10 songs for his last album, Toward The Light, in 2000. Posted by |

Chubby has got to be the eldest RRHOF inductee to get in as a Performer! Overall, I think Harry Belafonte was inducted as the eldest inductee at 95 (he died less than a year later). Chubby by comparison is just 84 or will be this year if he's not already (just checked, still 83, his birthday isn't until October). Posted by |

Chubby Checker is skipping the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony because he has a concert that day. I wonder now how they are going to handle his induction. Will they have a full video package? Will there be a presenter? Steven Van Zandt will be pissed off? Will someone perform Chubby Checker songs? Posted by |

Might not be the biggest addtion to the Music Hall of Muscians but Chubby made his mark and almost single handedly kicked off the 'dance" craze. There are hunderds of Twist-themed tunes out there. Twist and Shout out to Hank Ballard (Midnighters) for writing this seminal track. Fun fact, Dick Clark's wife, suggested the monikor 'Chubby Checker" in reference to fellow artist, Fats Domino.
