2 comments so far (post your own)definitely they should be inducted, they cracked the punk scene for Canada wide open, and that deserves some prestigious award, because without them, Canadian post hardcore would probably not exist. Posted by Drew on Wednesday, 08/12/2015 @ 10:08am |
Whoever says "no" REALLY doesn't understand the impact this band has had in the 2000s. Alexisonfire is one of those bands that was a massive influence on current Canadian music to the point it kinda outshines the older bands that are on this list. They were a big deal in 2000s because the band introduced alot of people to alternative genres of music that wasn't generic rock or pop canada is known for. The early days of this band had them on much music, but at sametime you could see them at small venues like community centers. It made rock as a whole feel more accessible to younger generations as the band was a gateway band to music as a whole. I remember seeing highschool kids being essentially promoters, sound techs, musicians, etc (which the promoter kid paid out of pocket from part time job.) Alexisonfire was a massive part of that as much music started playing them at the right time. Kids went from going to video dances, to all age shows in random community centers. Seeing over 500 kids show up for a only local band show in the middle of the Annapolis valley NS, would of never happened if wasnt for alexisonfire as majority of those kids would admit to being alexisonfire fans. I get alot of people really didn't like the "screaming" (fry vocals,) but alot of kids really got into it as wasn't nickleback. The funny part is majority of people saying it was a phase back then, alot of those kids grew up to work jobs in the music industry and be very successful. When I see people with alexisonfire tattoos, majority of them don't regret, they will tell you it's a very important tattoo as reminds them of a very important band that influenced their lives in a more positive way. I'm not even that big into alexisonfire, but I can say with certainty that if it wasn't for alexisonfire paving a new direction for canadian artists, I never would of gotten see bands that sellout stadiums. Literally was the band that influenced kids to have local music scenes where you'd never expect to have one, and it was on par with some the bigger major cities. For a period there too, when bands said eastern canada tour, it actually went to the maritimes because major booking agencies noticed there was enough of a music scene that was worth major bands time to come play for, like lamb of god or children of bodom. I honestly can't see that happening if wasnt for alexisonfire being a early gateway that led kids to find these bands. Best part of all this, kids would see their favorite bands, then would get to hang out with them at merch table to realize they are just a bunch of rad guys. Then give you advice on how to start a band with your friends. That never would of happened if wasnt for alexisonfire. Posted by scott peach on Monday, 09/30/2024 @ 22:25pm |
