16 comments so far (post your own)This list is missing The Coral. I'm not completely sure that they began in 02, but I'd like to think they have a good chance of induction.

Overall, that list is depressing

I'd say the only worthy mentions from that list would be Maroon 5, Audioslave and Justin Timberlake

As an All-American Reject, I was fortunate enough to discover that it only took 30 Seconds to Mars. Therefore, I was able to Cage myself in The Darkness of the red Martian landscape. However, The Law stated that I had to pay Martian taxes and seeing as i didn't, I found myself Trapt in prison. But due to the power of a secret weapon called The Hidden Hand I was able to break out of prison just as fellow rebels around the planet were Taking Back Sunday! It was a revolution! Oh a glorious revolution! The rebels called themselves the Young Knifes and a was made their leader. We fought a war with the overlords of Mars who were called The Walkmen. The Books had a Simple Plan in them that we were able to follow to defeat our antagonists and claim victory! Raise the flag! Hallelujah!!

Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, the All-American Rejects & Fall Out Boy will get in.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Maroon 5 will someday.

Locks/Near Locks: Justin Timberlake
Good probabilities of getting in: LCD Soundsystem, Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, Rihanna
Long Shots: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, My Chemical Romance.
Bands I'd like to be inducted, regardless of probabilities: LCD Soundsystem.
Again, it's too early to tell their influence on music yet, so a better hypothesis could be given 10 years from now.

The only one of those who'll definitely get my vote at this point are The Libertines.

Agreed on the Libertines. Between them, LCD Soundsystem and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and with the direction that the Black Keys and Davendra Banhart are headed this could shape up be a pretty solid class.

Rihanna has a lot of work to do if she wants to convince me. Ditto on Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds to Mars, Maroon 5, Vanessa Carlton, Avril Lavigne, Justin Timberlake and maybe a few others. You can forget about Audioslave unless they unexpectedly build up some incredible influence. Good band, but not at all innovative, and Soundgarden and RATM will both be in by that point. If by some fluke Slipknot is inducted you can rule out Stone Sour. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have some solid material, so keep an eye on them.

Where are the great artists like Pat Benatar, Golden Earring, Uriah Heep, and Jethro Tull. People who have had so little influence on music are up for possible nominations, but not real legends like I mentioned. Makes my heart sick.

janice, none of the above at the top of the page are up for nomination, they're just eligible in 2027.

LCD Soundsystem
The Libertines
Justin Timberlake
Cee Lo Green (Solo, Goodie Mob, and Gnarles Barkely) has done enough.
The Black Keys
Rihanna
And I hope Girl Talk gets in, but strong chance he won't

Looking at some of the names on this list makes me proud to be living under a rock when it comes to contemporary music. Justin Timberlake? Rihanna? Maroon 5? 30 Seconds to Mars? Simple Plan? Say no more.
Back to discovering great 20th century music recorded before my birth.
