I would have loved to have seen Kate Bush nominated. She is a role model for many, especially many women with the capacity to write their own songs, play their own instruments and produce their own material.

Great year for classic alternative artists!

I see a lot of people gushing about a lot of mediocre artists in this year.

Blag Flag belongs.

Dire Straits make a strong case, but ultimately fall short.

Nobody else is worth a mention.

Joy Division - quite simply, the birth of goth and alternative. I would argue that they are eligible a year earlier, but I could be wrong. Huge influence on recording technique (Martin Hannett alone could be inducted), later used by the Pixies, Nirvana, etc.

The Cure - without them there would be no Blink182, My Chemical Romance. Body of work is incredibly wide and deep.

Black Flag - definitely
The Cars - maybe

The Cure - yes

Dire Straits - I like them, but they fall short of qualifying

The Fall - maybe

Gang of Four - definitely

Gary Numan - maybe to probably

The Human League - maybe to probably

Joe Jackson - I like him, but no

Joy Division - definitely

Kate Bush - maybe

Midnight Oil - Probably not. One-hit wonder, though it was a good hit.

The Misfits - maybe

Public Image Ltd. - maybe

Rick James - maybe

Whitesnake - Pretty good, but fall way short

Those are the ones I either know anything about or care at all about
