I think that one monster hit is enough for consideration. Many people don't even have a single hit, a few of those types were inducted this year. But they would have at least two songs in contention for their signature song no? Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? The legacy of their 80's cultural cachet is as least equal to Duran Duran? And it's not like they had to be reassessed like Duran Duran, since they won Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Boy George has quietly been active across media throughout the decades, similarly to Cyndi. He's currently on Broadway in Moulin Rouge I believe. I mean crudely speaking the Hall would fulfill some neglected queer quota with Culture Club.

They were on the Hall's radar before with their song Time Clock of the Heart included in their 500 Songs that Shaped Rock. It wasn't even a major hit in the grand scheme of things and not the most recognized in their canon.

Honestly I'm officially an advocate for Culture Club and I'll be spamming comment sections in fansites, forums and podcasts until they're on their radar.

CC might be perceived as a technical one-hit wonder. Despite scoring many transatlantic hits between 1982-86, they're primarily known as the band behind "Karma Chameleon", which is their signature song. But who knows? They could be a contender. George Michael is in (and I think they credit the Wham hits to him solely), Eurythmics, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran are in. But my guess is Culture Club have yet to make a serious case for an induction. Hope I'm wrong.

Historically, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's criteria would not have allowed for the induction of artists who only influenced popular British musicians in the US, rather than directly influencing many American musicians and styles. Does this mean that artists who are very influential in the UK but less so in the US, like Cliff Richard, or even bands like The Jam, Stone Roses, Blur, and Pulp, might have a chance to be selected by the side category? Smokey Robinson was inducted in the second class of the R&R HoF in 1987 (and is, actually, the last surviving performer member of that class), and James Brown in the first class in 1986. Almost two decades later, the powers that be at the Hall decided they were wrong to not include the bands that backed Robinson, Brown, and several others. So, in 2004 they specifically inducted the backing bands (the Miracles, the Famous Flames, etc.) to accompany the original, already-inducted lead singers. Most of these lead singers didn't have success as solo acts, so it probably wouldn't have been appropriate to add them as two-time inductees. I hope this answers your question.

Outkast has the biggest selling album in hip hop genre and one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time

Wu-Tang Clan is another obvious choice. It's not just their success as a group, but also the fact that individual members have released several platinum albums, which is truly remarkable. Inducting the Wu-Tang Clan could encompass the careers of several rap artists with platinum-selling albums.

I think these two will be the highest priority hip hop snubs for rock hall in the next.

And NOW are they going to induct Lionel Richie AGAIN…with THE COMMODORES? and CHAKA KHAN with RUFUS ? Or is the Hall of Fame just going to distort history AGAIN , by just THROWING THE GROUPS AWAY ?
And will SONNY BONO EVER BE INDUCTED? or will his name and legacy just be DELETED ?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a practice and history of CREATING their OWN CONTROVERSIES !!

I agree I think maiden can get in on a ballot and unlike priest I don't think they'll be crammed in a side category.

They've been nominated twice against not only foo fighters and rage (two bands that also draw incredibly well but unlike maiden could headline Coachella, having general audiences matters) but also Soundgarden in 2023. If they get the Ozzy situation and they're the only harder rock act I think they can get in.

Regarding concert sellers don't forget: Dave Matthews band was the biggest box office draw of the 2000s.

I do think box-office drawing power has been the most under valued metric here especially with rock recently (the cure, Radiohead, def Leppard, doobie bros, nin, Depeche mode, foo fighters, Duran Duran, Rage, Ozzy, DMB are all massive live draws)

Jimmy is a big concert seller, whose critically divisive but widely beloved by fans and fellow musicians, Crue fit that same bill.

Ozzy was an 80s metal star, more edged than def Leppard or bon Jovi. Crue could find a slot in based on Ozzy. and they'd add 4 more metal votes to help out say motorhead or maiden.

Something we haven't worth mentioned yet that this is the first time that we have had a 8 Performer inductee class in over two decades, The last time that we had 8 inductees was back in 2001, I think that official Rock Hall voters now voting for 7 people instead of 5 now has really helped the huge backlog of deserving acts waiting to get in and we're going to see 7-8 acts get in each year now.

Also worth mentioning is that 17 of the 19 nominees for the 2018 class (Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Radiohead, The Zombies, Depeche Mode, LL Cool J, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Chaka Khan, Link Wray and MC5), 13 of the 15 nominees for the 2019 class (The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music, The Zombies, Todd Rundgren, LL Cool J, Kraftwerk, Rage Against The Machine, Chaka Khan and MC5), 13 of the 16 nominees for the 2020 class (Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk, Pat Benatar, Judas Priest, Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews Band and MC5), 12 of the 16 nominees for the 2021 class (Foo Fighters, The Go-Go's, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, LL Cool J, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Chaka Khan, Mary J. All of the 60's, 70's and early 80's (aka Baby Boomer) acts that were nominated this year got in (Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne plus Jimmy Buffett, MC5 (who were nominated in 2003, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022) and Dionne Warwick (who was nominated in 2021 and 2022) in the Musical Excellence category) so this year's class is dominated by baby boomer acts and I'm so happy about that, That is good news for acts that have been previously nominated and debuted or peaked in the 60's, 70's and early 80's like Devo (nominated in 2019, 2021 and 2022), Iron Maiden (nominated in 2021 and 2023), Joy Division/New Order (nominated in 2023), Cyndi Lauper (nominated in 2023), Motorhead (nominated in 2020), New York Dolls (nominated in 2001, 2021 and 2022), The Replacements (nominated in 2014), The Smiths (nominated in 2015 and 2016), Sting (nominated in 2015), Thin Lizzy (nominated in 2020), War (nominated in 2009, 2012 and 2015) and Warren Zevon (nominated in 2023) to get in either via the Performer category or the Musical Excellence category soon. and names that debuted or peaked in the late 60's, 70's and early 80's that will appear on the ballot and get in either via the Performer category or the Musical Excellence soon as well like Diana Ross, Phil Collins, Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Boston, The Monkees, The Guess Who, Joe Cocker, The B-52's, INXS, Billy Idol, The Bangles, Tears For Fears, Bryan Adams, Harry Nilsson, Roberta Flack, Patti LaBelle, Barry White, Luther Vandross and The Pointer Sisters.

Worth noting is that the three 90's acts that were inducted this year were all previously nominated (Mary J. Blige was nominated in 2021, Dave Matthews Band was nominated and won the fan vote in 2020 and A Tribe Called Quest were nominated in 2022 and 2023), so that is good news for Beck (nominated in 2022) and Soundgarden (nominated in 2020 and 2023) the next time that they are on the ballot.

For the ones that missed out on induction this year, I think that Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz definitely have the best chances of getting in next year along with Sade, Oasis, Jane's Addiction and Eric B. & Rakim.

So overall, A very solid class this year.

Thinking now they'll always find an excuse to exclude her from their ballot, whether it's in favour of another contemporary (Lauryn Hill), overdue predecesor (Diana Ross), or glossy successor (Beyonce). She gets in eventually somehow and I'm thinking they wait another five years until she turns 60 to give her Musical Excellence

He's had a number of controversies with NWA but it's also made him seem more normal. He also has kind of made it as big a part of his brand as the Pumpkins.

This new show seems to spotlight both the Pumpkins and NWA also it's on The CW so it's gonna be super accessible.
