Wu Tang Forever!

Wow, the only artists I'm in favor of for this year are rappers. Okay, maybe Liz Phair.

Rap sucks. There's no such thing as creativity, innovation, or originality in Rap, and no one has called anyone an influence because four years after these rappers put out their disc no one likes them anymore and laughs at anyone who does listen to them... This is DISPOSABLE "music".

You're an idiot.

wow, ghoul. After reading that comment I felt this unberable feeling that i should burn my copy of World Destruction. thank you. i claim to have reached an epiphany of sorts.

it's ironic that you say that, ghoul. you have obviously never listened to wu-tang before, as they were one of the first to chop up r&b piano lines and turn them into now common beats, one of the first to bring hip-hop out of new york and into the mainstream, and one of the most influential bodies in this generation's version of rock and roll. when you're done cumming all over the walls about "kid a", give them a chance.

Shut the hell up "the ghoul" the wu-tang clan isnt one of those crappy pop-rap groups like dem franchise boyz. They've been around for years and have a dedicated fanbase and should get in.

Not eligible til 2018, but this group might be my one exception to banning rappers fm the RHOF. Method Man is a great artist 4 real, not hype.

"Banning" hip hop strikes me as a ludicrously close-minded thing to do, and would probably be enough to kill this Hall off completely -- probably not such a bad thing by the sounds of it.

Gee, oosive, thanks (sic) for stopping by and gracing these pages w/ some much condescending bullcrap. wat the hell does "favouritist" even mean? iz that a Brit word? (smile)

When I refer to a "dive" I mean the Hall itself >_> You really thought I meant this site? OK, umm, bye.

"wat the hell does "favouritist" even mean?"

You know, favouritism, where people give unfair priority to stuff they -- get this! prefer. Something the HoF nominating comittee -- sorry, "crew" -- sorry, "Cru" have been known to do more than a few times.

Nice response oosive. But now, let me get this, if you were running a Hall of Fame, would you put in artists you DIDNT prefer??? The RHOF may be a "dive" as you say, and yes it is an "exclusive" dive. They dont induct marginal artists. Have you given the British Music Museum a try? You might prefer them.

Right I dont get it how people use the fact a band has got a "dedicated fanbase" as proof a band should get in. How's that make sense? Brokencyde have a dedicated fanbase, should they get in?

if hip-hop belongs in, these boyz belong in ... this iz the group that spawned notably Method Man ... also Raekwon, Old Bastard and others ... this legendary crue fm Staten Isle belongs, yes ... best rapper group ever.

Influence: Definetly, wu tang have had an influence on many rap groups since. 30
Innovation: Wu tang clan were innovative in their use of mafia related lyrics and one of the first to perform as a large group. 5
Critica: Wu Tang are one of the most well respected groups among rap. 20
Commercial: In the early 90's they had some limited commercial sucess. 5
bonus for Enter the wu tang clan 36 chambers.

65 worthy but second or third ballot.

There is too much anger on here. Personal tastes of genre dont matter, relevance and influence does. If an artist's music is still relevant 25 years later, then they can be considered. If current artist are covering their stuff they must have done something right. Some people just don't like certain kinds of music, so the people who actually vote on this must hold back preconceptions. Many of you won't matter to them any way, theyre gonna run the HOF the way they want.

The Essential album is Liquid Swords? Really? That isn't even a Wu-Tang Album, it's a GZA album! Wu Tang's Essential album is and always will be Enter the 36 Chambers!

tfw you will never have a song dedicated to you by Drake

I voted yes as the Wu had a MASSIVE effect on hip hop
They had a crazy member (Ol Dirty Bastard, who once crashed the Grammys during Shawn Colvin's acceptance speech... Look it up) Who was taken far too early (The hall of fame loves those)... I'd say when they become eligible their chances of induction is high.

Posted by Michael on Sunday, 05.11.14 @ 02:47am

Actually after chatting with my dad... I have to say no, the Wu is simply too large, and after the mess with Chicago's induction... The Wu although highly influential is unlikely because of the logistics of getting 100+ artists inducted at once... It would be a mess... Because at the end of the day Wu Tang isn't a group, it's a collective.

Posted by Michael on Wednesday, 06.22.16 @ 18:22pm

Michael: Considering how the process of inductees goes for the Hall of Fame, I really don't think the Hall would be racking its brain on how to induct the Wu-Tang Clan. The obvious inductees are the nine primary members (including Ol Dirty Bastard). The only question mark would be Cappadonna. The rest of their Killa Beez would probably just be seen as exhibit footnotes. Just my two cents.
