17 comments so far (post your own)The Runaways were like the first all female punk rock/hard rock band ever! Joan Jett and Lita Ford are legends! Posted by BulmaPunkRocker on Sunday, 07/6/2014 @ 22:12pm |
Peaceful journeys to Kim Fowley. Posted by DarinRG on Friday, 01/16/2015 @ 01:20am |
How can the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" induct Joan Jett in over the Runaways??? The Runaways were just as influential today as they were back then. I can't believe they let Joan Jett in but missing are Lita, Sandy, Vicki, Jackie, and Cherie. It's too bad they weren't already inducted when Sandy was still alive. Of course the Runaways should go into the RNRHOF just like so many mentioned here. They played their own instruments, all TEENAGE Grrrlzzz NOT WOMEN, teenage girls that's a big difference. They should go under I think Musical Excellence. I listen still to them today, and they really were the BEST band around. Maybe Joan Jett & The Blackhearts induction will have an affect for the Runaways to get in Posted by Pam on Sunday, 04/26/2015 @ 18:26pm |
To anyone who says The Runaways were not influential you obviously aren't a female rock musician or a fan there of. If you're saying they don't belong in The Rock Hall you need to make sure you're not a fan of any punk bands of the 80's and newer, any new wave bands of the 80's and newer, any grunge bands of the late 80's and newer, or of any of the current young female pop/rock artists, because they all list The Runaways as a major influence. Everyone from The Germs members to Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain, from Orianthi to Miley Cyrus to Green Day to Operation Ivy. Get with it Rock Hall, I'm so glad Joan got in last year, I attended the event, but this should have come first. And Lita Ford belongs in as a solo artist as well, you name other female lead guitar players that's shred like she does...Orianthi comes to mind, Lizzy Hale...hmmm, not many. Total epitamy of rock. And The Runaways were one of the most influential bands of all time, not only on rock and pop but on punk, glam, new wave, you name it. Do your research, read interviews of the artists you love. Saying The Runaways didn't influence X is bullshit, along with Black Flag, Social D, The Go Go's, etc. The Runaways did it first in LA. Period. Now that Joan Jett is in, The Runaways are a must. Not just because her experience with them helped shape her into the pioneer that she is...but because the band itself was pioneering. Almost every female rocker...AND a fair number of males...cite them as an influence. And it's moree than their music. They epitomize the ideal of rock and roll as a cultural phenomenon: the angst, rebellion and sheer joy that people are meant to feel when they experience the R&R world. Unfortunately, since Joan Jett and the Blackhearts made it in, I have a distinct feeling that, in the minds of the voters, the Runaways have already been represented. It's a shame, too, since the Runaways are much more deserving. Posted by Joe on Sunday, 11/20/2016 @ 16:46pm |
Of course they should be inducted. They were an all girl band in a genre that was only done by men until then. And they had a lot of great music during their career, and also began the long lasting career of inductee & legend, Joan Jett. I say, DEFINITELY 100% YES it is time for the Runaways to be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Posted by Nathan Miller on Sunday, 02/12/2017 @ 00:24am |
E só uma observação: Eu amo Joan Jett Posted by João Jett on Tuesday, 12/8/2020 @ 15:32pm |
The Runaways should have been nominated before The Go-Go's, and should have been inducted before Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. It's difficult to understand how they have been overlooked so far by the RRHOF. Posted by kenmil on Wednesday, 03/10/2021 @ 14:15pm |
I can't believe The Runaways are not in HoF yet! Look how many Rock Stars were produced. These women are Rock-N-Roll Goddesses and should be recognized for their contributions and influences to Rock past, present and future! The HoF needs more Goddesses glorified and represented. The induction of the Go-Go's and the call for more female representation in the Hall makes their induction more likely now than ever before. I definitely see Joan Jett become a two-time inductee. Posted by Garrick on Friday, 11/26/2021 @ 07:18am |
They are the first all female hard rock band. There are no bangles, Go Go's with out the runaways. Yet the go go's are in don't get it. Posted by Gilbert Shaw on Wednesday, 07/27/2022 @ 13:40pm |
Never Ending Misogyny keeps these women out. RR Hall has no legitamcy. Posted by Kathy Heidel on Thursday, 12/22/2022 @ 07:46am |

if management would have been there and more serious about the actual talent in that band itb would have helped enormously. they wouldve and shouldve lasted longer and matured into a truly iconic band. what a shame they really could have been making alot of moremusic. just didnt get that chanceb to evolve!!!!! They punk, hard rock and heavy metal all at once. Don't forget the rest of the band who have held their own. Cherie was the voice. As far as those lists go, female bands were not given time of day. Has the industry not run all over them, who knows where they would be. They were gong too. Many starting at 16ish. They are the reason so many female acts are successful now. Should be in Hall but here we are. They were the original grlls well before the 90s. Posted by msugrl33 on Tuesday, 11/28/2023 @ 11:05am |
