simple minds must be the the most under-rated rock band of all time, sold over 30 million records, they have 5 number 1 albums, and sold out stadiums all over the world, fashions change fair enough, but taste shouldnt,i always found them a better live band than u2" thankfully they are still writing, recording and touring, albiet not the size they used to be,"long live the minds"

Totally agree with the comments made. You cannot ignore facts and i have seen them on 15 occaisions and they are an incredible live act (Q best live act '91) They totally deserve the accolaid.

No, we haven't forgotten about them, but I sure as hell have been trying to!

Liam, you are right to be shocked that Simple Minds have been considered.

Though big in the UK and Australia, they only had one real hit in the States, and little notable influence. It is possible that their ties to the Pretenders and U2 help them.

I think Simple Minds should be on "50 Unlikely Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Candidates" at "http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/best_halloffame_xlf.html". Do you?

The "Don't You(Forget About Me)" band has actually been considered? Odd.

Having met Jim and Charlie this year in Taormina after seeing them perform live with their band I again am reassured there is no better band, live or recorded, than SM. In fact, Jim should be considered for knighthood. He is such a gentleman, thoughtful, humourous, generous with his time and definately a contributor to the music industry and loyal to his fans.

No is my answer. No real importance.

First I find out that Dexys Midnight Runners have 37% Induction chances and now that Simple Minds have been considered by the RRHOF?? What is going on here??

The only thing I can think of a conscious effort to be less Ameri-centric. That's how artists like Johnny Hallyday and Fela have also been considered, if I had to guess. I also agree that Simple Minds just aren't important enough. Honestly, if we're going to honor that style of pop music, Duran Duran is really the only one you'd need to represent/epitomize it.

U2 is so much better than Simple minds that it's not even funny.

I like "Belfast Child" much better than that song I've been trying to forgot about.

"Alive and Kicking" and a few others too.

Actually, I take that back. "Don't You (Forget About Me)" is still a kick-ass song.
