Well, no, they shouldn't get in. But they saved that god awful Woodstock film and should get a little plaque or something for that.

I believe that they very well should!!! They saved doo-wop music from that Disco Duck and for that 'I', a nineteen year old from Jersey, is very grateful for!! grease4peace

If you're 19, that means you're too young to remember that era and should probably reserve judgement on it. There was more to that time musically than disco (and certainly more than Sha Na Na...who was a glorified 50's cover band).

C'mon guys, RnR is about having FUN, and Sha Na Na is about as Fun as it gets!

Should they be inducted? Well, no..they were essential a '70s doowop revival/retro novelty cover band (although they didn't just play doowop, they played all the hits from the early rock canon).

But I do acknowledge that in Rock History, Sha Na Na hold a very distinguished position.

Considering the immense talent of Johnny Contardo, I think Sha Na Na should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His voice is one that could only be rivaled by Elvis. Doing cover songs or originals doesn't matter, with a voice like he has, it should be honored with a place in the Hall of Fame.

I don't know if they should get in or not, but I give them credit for one thing. Just when rock music was starting to take itself a little too seriously, Sha Na Na came along to remind everyone that rock & roll is supposed to be fun!!!

Yes they should be there, these are talented singer/musicians and great performers. The only problem I can see is which line up would be there, because through all the 40 plus years the band have, they had a lot of members. I'm almost sure that the tv show line up will get in (if they do get inducted).

I had never really thought of them being in the RRHOF
After thinking back and all they did . YES they should be in..Heck if the song was a true classic they did it.. They were the ones that brought Rock back to the next generation {70's}... from Movies to a long time TV show.. Heck they were at Woodstock for goodness sakes ...!

Sha Na Na definitely should be in. How many other people can say rock legend Hendrix rocked out to them? Before they did Woodstock they appeared in a club where Hendrix himself had such a great time he danced up on a table. It was after this appearance that the Sha Na Nas were invited to perform at Woodstock. They went on to inspire 50's type nostalgia i.e. the movie "Grease," the t.v. show "Happy Days," and the greaser look. They revived the rock and roll era of good times and memories. They had a very successful t.v. show that ran for four years and had a huge following...showcasing many of the top music legends of the day...people like James Brown and many others. The band has been performing for 41 years now. Great music, talented vocals, and great entertainment like theirs' shouldn't be overlooked. I really doubt anyone could honestly say they have not had an impact on rock and roll history...they even predicted there would be a rock and roll hall of fame before there was one. I think it would be a travesty if they are not included.

Even though they did keep the sound and image of the 50's alive in the 60's, they really weren't more than what Gitarzan called them "a glorified 50's cover band."

If the Hall of Fame were true to its image it would keep honouring the all-time greats, and not every act that got a little bit of grease on their wheels.

Unfortunately the R&R Hall of Fame is a highl politicized organization which was founded by men who had personal agendas. The spiteful and petty way in which these men kept deserving artists and music business functionaries out of the Hall is verifiable and shameful. The Hall suffers because of this because the knowing public sees it for what it is. Just look how long it took for legendary artists like Neil Diamond and Kiss to get in. The reason for those and other derilictions is because one or more of the founders had a vendetta against that particular artist. All of the above can be proven and verified.

Arthur, I'm sure you're a big fan of Sha Na Na & you are entirely correct that The Hall is a politicized organization.

That being said, I will tell you that it will be a cold day in Hell when Sha Na Na is elected to The Hall.

Enjoy their music & celebrate them, but The Hall is not in their future.
