hey, how about we talk about someone who doesn't have sex with small children? Robyn Hitchcock's work with The Soft Boys is great, ahead of its time by a solid ten years. And he remains one of the most prolific songwriters of his generation.

Yet another artist I was only remotely aware of and am unfamiliar with and need to give a serious listen too. (sigh..) there are so many... it's a bit overwhelming. I don't know how you guys keep educated on so vast a sea of music.

Sorry, but he is hardly HOF material....being a "punk" artist should not automatically qualify you...not really seeing all that much influence and changing of rock music

"Suggestions on the best 3 examples of Hitchcock's work? Where should one start?"
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 07.31.07 @ 18:10pm
Shawn, begin with The Soft Boys' Underwater Moonlight for one of the best albums you will ever have the privelege of hearing. His debut, Black Snake Diamond Role, is a little softer but has the same playfulness and wit behind it. In '84 he recorded an album that was all acoustic-and-piano, I Often Dream of Trains.

Thanks for the suggestions, Kit. Although they weren't intended for me, I've only heard Underwater Moonlight, so I'm more than willing to track the rest down.

"Massive" influence? A bit overstated there?

No, not at all.

I am in touch with what counts, my opinion and feelings...and I think he sucks. And, until he "gets in", the RRHOF agress with me, not you....later much

Exclusion ≠ sucks any more than inclusion = good.

Bottom line, the guy is never going to get in....face reality..he just aint that big of a deal. BTW, I really do not need any "credit" from you.....now don't you have some band trashing to do elsewhere?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, 08.4.07 @ 14:48pm
I'm not the one who trashes the Hall one minute and tries to buddy up to it the next. If you had better argumentative skills, you wouldn't have to fall back on lame frat-boy crap like that.
Posted by William on Saturday, 08.4.07 @ 15:31pm
Like I said, don't you have another place to be -like trashing some fuckin band on this site or asking someone will that be cash or credit? Once again, Hitchcock will NEVER get in. That does not mean I am "buddying up" to the hall - it is just the truth....
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, 08.4.07 @ 16:44pm
It is also funny that you perceive this webiste as a place to have "argumentative skills" - speaks volumes.
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, 08.4.07 @ 16:46pm
I don't care about Hitchcock, actually. But yes, when you make a dumb appeal to the hall (der, Hall agree wif me, boi) after repeatedly trashing it for not letting in artists YOU feel should be in, there's an inconsistency.
Posted by William on Saturday, 08.4.07 @ 17:22pm
It is not an inconsistency at all - sometimes the hall gets it right (i.e. Robyn Hitchcock) and other times not (i.e. Rush, Moody Blues, etc.)

You're an absolute dork, Anon. Jeezus.

Kit, you desperately need a life and a job....very well thought out argument, but he still sucks
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 08.7.07 @ 05:52am
That's it Anon, you obstinate jackass; continue to support your original silly bombast with the blunt thoughtfullness of a Tourett's victim.

Just what I expected...the "know it all" (i.e. Kit) is afraid to show who he is..LOL, LOL....do you want fries with that coke?

Anon, Kit, Shawn, we are all anonymous idiot! At least I have provided some background about myself on prior posts.
Posted by Anon on Tuesday, 08.7.07 @ 15:18pm
Sure Anon, you can say anybody sucks that you'd like. But if you expect to be taken as anything more than the blathering fool you've consistently demonstrated, you'd better come up with something more substantial than "Hitchcock sucks see, cuz he ain't in da Hall."

BTW, just because you do some research and listen to some "underground" acts does not make you smart Kit. It makes you motivated to learn facts about music, that's about it. Anyone can pick up a fuckin history book....so don't flatter yourself. Others mb impressed, but I am not.
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 08.7.07 @ 20:02pm
If "anyone" can do it, then so could you. Honestly, it's almost like you're trying to discredit knowledge itself.
Posted by William on Tuesday, 08.7.07 @ 20:51pm
Its not what you say, it is how you say it.

"They are not punk"...well you know what I mean, just remove the word punk then.
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 08.8.07 @ 02:03am
Yes, you meant that you know absolutely nothing about music past or presence. Messaged recieved loud and clear.
Posted by Kit on Wednesday, 08.8.07 @ 02:27am
No, I meant to stop listing artists that are obscure and "underground" - no one is impressed.
Posted by ANON on Wednesday, 08.8.07 @ 02:49am
And, btw, that would be:

Not everyone is a shallow shitsmear like you and listens to music only to impress other people.
Posted by Kit on Wednesday, 08.8.07 @ 13:46pm
After he was in the Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock had a good run as a solo artist.
