what a horrible voice

and horribly annoying "songs." "Umbrella?" "Unfaithful?" Could nails on chalkboard actually be set to music? Rihanna proves it can.

Alfonso, they proved it years ago with both Anita Ward and Olivia Newton-John. Rihanna's actually talented. Doubtful she's Rock Hall material, but her stuff actually stands pretty well.

This beauty queen "VOICE OF A GODDESS" Her CD "Good Girl Gone Bad" Says it all.. Beauty and truth.. Is there really any more one can pray for?
We all have been blessed to have her with us.. !It is like living in Bliss with musical reggae and R&B. all in 1.. SHE IS ON FIRE!!!!!!!

2% chance of getting in says it all. I don't think I've seen a lower number from all the artists listed here.

No No No No

Dull watered down R&B, not original whatsoever. Still, she could become Hall of Fame worth; let's reconvene at the end of the decade and check.

It's a good thing she's (reasonably) attractive because she sure can't sing. She's pretty much a record label exec created puppet. So - it's a no.

Posted by Carlos Suarez on Sunday, 08.14.11 @ 20:08pm

'ooh nah nah - what's my name? ooh nah nah - what's my name?'

It's not important. No.

The latest example of how huge commercial success (in this case, singles) means nothing for HOF induction. She has some catchy tunes, but she doesn't have much of a musical personality (she has no hand in making it) and has not done anything notable in the music world. "S&M"? Done before. Violent video? The same.

I won't be supporting Rihanna anytime soon, but by no means should she be in the bottom ten, especially below Lindsay Lohan and Milli Vanilli? Extreme commercial success =/= induction worthy whatsoever (although it does add a more substantial case for likelihood). But she shouldn't have this low of a likelihood in comparison to worse artists who have much less superstar-success. Basically, I'm just saying she doesn't deserve to be in the bottom ten when there are plenty of much less critically respected no-names.

Mariah and whitney aren't in so I doubt rihanna will get in.

She deserves it. Ever since LOUD came out, she exploded like crazy.

...Rihanna who?

Like some other mega-successful acts (at least singles-wise), her success will not be considered as a reason for HOF induction. She has not done anything to stand out, artistically, from the pack. She's had a couple of singles get some critical love (especially "Umbrella"), but that also will does not cut it.

Here is a example of Rihanna's songwriting:

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky.

And here is Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young:

You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by.
And so become yourself becuase the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well, thier father's hell did slowly go by, and feed them on your dreams, the one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry,
so just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

Need I say more about which one is better?

(also, since when has "being equal to, or better than CSN&Y been the rule for who gets in and who doesn't?)

Posted by GFW on Tuesday, 02.12.13 @ 13:10pm

GFW,

In this comment, I was comparing Rihanna's songs to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's songs. I know that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame cares more about influence then popularity or album sales, but I can't see Rihanna getting into the Hall of Fame.

I'll take Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young over Rihanna any day.

Never.

@GFW - good post dude.

Rihanna!? Rock and roll Hall of fame!? O dear....she's nice but not comparable with really great singers or Bands like Queen, led zepplin and( still my favourite <3) MUSE. When you compare these Rock and roll talents with Rihanna she sounds like an one-hit-wonder... now she's glorious but one day she's history .history of unknown. She can sing but it isn't enough

I had no idea 2002 brought us several hit acts. 2027 may look to be a puzzling year on deciding who gets in. If it were judged by most chart hits, Rihanna would easily get in. She probably does not have a HOF-worthy career (most of her idols aren't in as of now). We shall see.

and of course, most say no and don't see outside there narrow field of vision, i'm not saying she is the best R&B singer in the world (i'm not even a big of her music)but her growing legacy can't be ignored, i'm not sure how many rock artist will admit to being influenced by her but there's going to be more then handfull

Rihanna is a great example of why all the votes should be reset or archived on this site, giving everyone a fresh start.

Do I think Rihanna is a lock? Absolutely not. Will I support her in 11-12 years when she becomes eligible? Backlog says try again in 30 years. But it baffles me that an artist with FIVE songs in The Song Project here has a 7% "yes" rate. Surely hitmaker Rihanna is in the top 20%ish of likely artists taking into account the hundreds of unknowns that have a page on this site?

its sad so many are saying no, now i'm not saying shes the best R&B singer in the world (i don't like 99% of her music) but did everyone forget the influence part of the hall?

Rihanna for better or worst is one of the most influential R&B artists of the 21th century and an icon of barbados singers also i'm not talking sales here, she is vary influential whether you like it or not
