Patti Labelle's music has moved a lot of people. Her music style in very different from all other artists. She must be inducted

Labelle was originally known as Patti La Belle and The Bluebelles, and included Patti, Sarah Dash , Nona Hendrix, and Cindy Birdsong . The only difference between the two groups is that Cindy left them to join The Supremes , to replace the late Flo Ballard , then the remaining members, Patti, Sarah, and Nona, became LaBelle. Although Patti has had the most success as a solo artist, ALL of the Bluebelles have released solo albums , and have had a measure of solo success. (each one has their own Wikipedia article)...and they are still touring today, so I think they should go in as a GROUP.

She is not Rock and Roll.

She is not Rock and Roll? Umm okay, well neither are 1/4th of the acts in the R&RHOF. She has quite a well-respected career no matter what incarnation (Labelle, solo, etc.). She has worked with several people who are in the HOF, and many singers of today consider her as an influence. So yes, Patti Labelle is a legend in her own right.

Yes Patti Labelle has been in the business 50 years with hits in Patti Labelle and Bluebelles,
Labelle, and Patti Labelle has had hits with all
incarnations. She deserves to be in Rock Hall and Fame Because Labelle was Rock and Roll.

This is long overdue and she has a slew of Awards.
Gold and Platnum Records. Give her due

Well we know that it isn't about race, then what the hell could it be? One of the best vocalist ever!!! She's done effortlessly almost every genre of music in every decade since the 60's. She's recorded over 50 albums. I heard someone mention success and charts, if that the case all artist should stop doing art for art sake and do it for charts and money. Think about it she's one of the greatest of all time and hasn't been inducted! Something is wrong with that...

honestly, I laughed out loud at the post above that claims that "she's not rock and roll". Well, to whoever posted that?..YOUR TEACHER IS HERE, NOW!!...first of all, there are a TON of acts/singers/bands in the HOF that aren't "rock and roll". Some of them, like the Platters, were strictly r&b. So, the 'rock & roll' label is just that..a label. It doesnt mean all that YOU think it does.

And finally, THE ONLY thing anyone can charge Patti for, is not selling as many records as a ton of 'soul divas' out there. But when it comes to versatility, there are few if any who can hold a match to her.

Not rock and roll?...really?..I would suggest you go to YOUTUBE, and look up her lead vocal on "Who's Watchin' the Watcher"..look up, "Action Time"...look up "Nightbirds"...look up "The Man In A Trenchcoat (Taboo, Voodoo)"...look up, "Rockin' Pneumonia & The Boogie Woogie Flu" (and old Aerosmith tune...look up "Eyes In the Back of My Head"...look up, "Funky Music"..look up, "You Can't Judge A Book, By lookin At The Cover" (an old Bo Diddley tune). Those songs are not only PURE rock and roll...they're HARD ROCK!..and Im talking about the kind of hard rock that you hear bands like Aerosmith, doing.

look up her performance with The Who on YOUTUBE, where she played the Acid Queen in their rock opera, Tommy...IF THAT AINT ROCK AND ROLL, I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS!!..She shut the place down with that performance.

She was on the same bill with Billy Idol and Elton John, for 'Tommy'. I dont think they would have asked her to take part in the performance if she was just relegated to soul music. And last I checked, she stepped in for the original Acid Queen, Tina Turner at that performance, because Tina had the flu...they couldve asked ANY NUMBER OF ROCK CHICKS, like Benatar or Joan Jett to play the Acid Queen...but they didnt, did they?

As a matter of fact, the group, LaBelle recorded two albums in particular that are VERY HEAVY on the hard rock side (Chameleon, Phoenix). Nona Hendryx who is/was the primary song writer on those albums IS NOT just a soul singer/songwriter. She happens to be one of the inventors of 'BLACK FUNK/ROCK'.

And if you wanna get REAL picky, we could just say that her and the Bluebelles opening for the likes of The Who and the Stones, wayyy back in the 60's, qualifies them as ROCK, just for general purposes.

So, if there was legitimate proof that Patti LaBelle didnt or couldnt sing rock and roll, I would agree with your assessment that "she isnt rock and roll". But you are dead wrong here...Patti LaBelle, has sung everything from rock/hard rock, cosmic funk to straight soul to pop to gospel to light opera to standards to Broadway tunes to new wave to pure R&B..

without a doubt, she DESERVES to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...and its not even up for debate, in my mind.

I have to agree with Laurence
she dose it all an dose it good,

*****PATTI LaBELLE*****

"She is not Rock and Roll".

I'm actually getting sick of hearing this...and I've addressed it before, so let me reiterate...

"Rock and Roll" is DIFFERENT than "Rock".

"Rock and Roll" actually means and includes ALL derivative forms , progenitive forms and offshoots of what is actually originally called by that term.

That INCLUDES RHYTHM & BLUES. Hello ? Mc Fly ?? am I making my point clear here ??

RHYTHM AND BLUES was one of the PROGENITORS of what we today call "Rock and Roll".

Webster's Dictionary defines "PROGENITIVE" as

"tending to or able to reproduce itself : reproductive".

For the uninitiated, that means simply that RHYTHM & BLUES was and is one of the FOUNDING FATHERS of Rock and Roll.

In fact, in no small part, Rock and Roll BEGAN when White music artists began covering Black Rhythm & Blues.

It was people like the late Alan Freed who opened the doors of exposure of R&B to the mass White audience . He did this in the early 1950's as a Dee -Jay in Cleveland...and that is why Cleveland is the home of the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME .

So, to deny induction into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME of Black R&B artists simply kills the idea and the point of the type and genre of music that spawned Rock and Roll in the FIRST place.

So, for all of you out there who still feel that "Rock and Roll" only includes white "Rock" bands...Please do yourselves and the rest of us a favor....

And do it before you begin making blanket judgements on who you think belongs in the R&R HOF...

...And who does not.

While, at one and the same time...

making yourselves look stupid in the process.

****PATTI LaBELLE**** that I've gotten THAT off my chest...

Let's talk about Patti .

She is one of the most POWERFUL vocalists in Rock and Roll History .

I think she even rivals the incredible vocal power of Aretha Franklin.(maybe even MORE).

Does she belong in the Hall of Fame ? YES.

Should she go in as a solo artist ? NO.

Not yet, anyway. I think that ALL of the Bluebells (aka LaBelle) should go in FIRST....

Then Patti solo later.

Let's not create still ANOTHER situation where a Special Committee has to come in and correct an induction mistake that should have never occurred in the first place .

Besides-what if the H of F NEVER got around to inducting the GROUP ?? That would be a travesty.

Patti LaBelle, Sarah Dash, Nona Hendrix...and Cindy Birdsong should go in as a GROUP.

(yes,CINDY. she already got shafted from induction with The Supremes. Let's not do it again).

All of them have has successful careers outside the group. All you have to do is look up their articles in Wikipedia under their individual names.

I know that opinions are like noses...everybody has one - and some of you will say NO to the GROUP...

But, whatever you want to call them, Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles, or LaBelle....

They deserve to go in together .

Wenn Aretha Franklin In der Hall of Fame ist dann gehört Patti LaBelle ebenfalls dorthin.Sie ist eine der größten Stimmen der Welt. Ich habe fast Alle Live erlebt. Patti ist the Empress! Schande daß sie nicht schon lange dabei ist! Jetze zu ihrem 70 Geburtstag wäre es fällig.

Patti Labelle, Nona Hendrix,Sarah Dash they were ahead of their time. They sang wild horses, black roles in the sky, and many other. Performed with Rolling Stones and the Who. All the singers in Labelle could sing.
Nona Hendrix was a great song writer
Labelle were glam rock please give
them their do. It's only fair.
These were true talented

Sarah Dash performed with Keith Richards, as well as a lot of solo work outside of LaBelle.
