Ian Hunter should be listed as a nominee for his solo work ... better odds of getting in than his old band.

I think after T. Rex, Mott the Hoople should be the next in line for Glam Rock.

Allmusic lists Mott as having influenced Hall of Famers Queen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, Sex Pistols, & the Clash, as well as other huge and potential Hall of Famers Bad Company, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and the Runaways. Hanoi Rocks, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot also list Mott as influences.

So combining their wide range of influence with the fact that they had a lot of great albums and featured excellent musicians, it seems like Mott has the credentials.

It is a crime that Mott The Hoople never achieved superstar status in the United States. Anyone who has listened to their live album knows that this band kicks ass!

The Hall loses legitimacy without Mott in it. I keep looking for them under M.They are the quintessential epitome of Rock in it's Golden age.
Glitter , corkscrew hair , bumblebee glasses and platform shoes aside, the music speaks volumes to alien species that want to know more about Earth's greatest art form and pastime.

Mott/Ian Hunter, T Rex/Marc Bolan, Slade and the rest of Bowie's band aka The Spiders From Mars/Mick "Ronno" Ronson NOT being included is insulting. If the Brit bands would all actually make good on not showing up for the $10K a seat induction ceremony until they are included would serve the wankers on the HoF's selection committee where their brains are. In the HoF's wallet
The Monkees are another one that they need to get over themselves and do the right thing, or at least try for a change...

Singles Category. All The Young Dudes is all you need from them.

One of the essential 70s British bands. They are plenty good enough for the rock and roll hall of fame.

No doubt in my Mind that Mott the Hoople should be inducted into the hall. Such a great band. Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson and the rest. Please, they deserve it.

I can't understand how T-Rex is in (they deserve to be) and not Mott. Their musicianship and influences are iconic. I know Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) has cited them as a major influence, and for those knuckleheads that view them as a one-hit wonder have no clue whatsoever. They've already lost 2 original members ... let's not drag this out another year, please. They've been eligible for 26 years and not one nomination? Absolutely pathetic and disrespectful.

I first heard Mott on the Island records sampler 'Bumpers' in 1970 ...
Went out and bought 'Mad Shadows' and fell in love with the band . Mott's early albums pre Mad Shadows and post were a bit patchy .

Saw them twice , Fairfield Hall Croydon (1970) when their main amp blew , they were wonderful and again at the Friars Club (1970) in Aylesbury . At the time the band were unable to put down on vinyl anything like the amazing atmosphere generated live . On the verge of splitting , Bowie attended a gig at 'Friars' and talked to Ian Hunter, he had written a song and recorded it but felt it would be a good idea for the band to try it out ...'All The Young Dudes' was born 'dear Dave decided to give them the song' ...! ( what a freebie )

The rest as they say is history , thanks for Friars eh without whom things could have been so different .

I love 4 four albums - Mad Shadows, All The Young Dudes, Mott and The Hoople. That's it game over, the band tried without Hunter but hey , it was never going to work ...

Summation - Without Bowie and Mott , the whole music scene , especially in the UK would be a totally different animal .
Dare I say it but is 'All The Young Dudes' the greatest rock anthem ever written ?-

Somehow it convey's what every self respecting wannabe rocker in the early 70's wanted to say and with 'Starman' they both became a template for some of the greatest music ever put on vinyl. The UK music scene in the 70's was something of a central core for invention , from Prog , alt folk , blues rock , heavy rock and glam rock. And those albums were a soundtrack to our lives - Thank you mum and dad for giving me life in 1953 cos I was the right age to immerse myself in all this -
69 yrs old now and still love this stuff -What a band . . ...

Should have been in on 1st or 2nd ballot. A travesty.
