Man o' War is the name of a legendary race horse. Too bad they were not a legendary band.

Hahaha....Keep on wining...I'm nineteen and I've listened to a lot of music. And MANOWAR is a huge influence on lots of modern heavy metal and power metal bands! They have more fans around the world, than you can possible imagine!

HAIL AND KILL!

I would love to see Manowar in concert one day. I just want the members of this band to know how much they mean to me.

I've noticed Manowar being sited as an influential power metal band. But I'm gonna have to give them a no.

Perceptions about metal are going to change...eventually. The nominating committee won't ignore metal forever. Personally, I just vote for the deserving artists and see how it goes.

Never knew how popular this band actually was until I mentioned them while playing World of Warcraft, OMG, they have a following.

Loudest band ever as well!

Sorry, but why would you vote yes for Manowar? If these metal fans had their way, we'd induct a representative from every metal subgenre and there are more metal subgenres apparently than inductees currently actually IN Cleveland. No, we don't need Manowar and their steroids and leather g-strings, the only metal/metal-esque bands deserving to be in the Hall of Fame are the following:

Already in:

Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Metallica

Not in yet but deserving:

Deep Purple
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest

Maybe:

Slayer
Megadeth

That's it!!!

Interesting. Some folks who prefer their metal more commercial would put Van Halen amongst your list of "already in", as well.

While Manowar's chances are probably nil, I wouldn't discount a few others. I do think a few others probably belong, if you want to have a generalized picture of the evolution of metal.

I'd add in Def Lep, as it should be acknowledged that this is the direction metal went in during the 1980's. Guns N' Roses as well. I'm aware that you're not counting bands that aren't already eligible. That being said, I think Korn would have to be a no-brainer, as this was a new direction that metal followed later down the line.

My inductees for a ground-level understanding of metal (in the Rock Hall, of course):

Zeppelin
Sabbath
Metallica
Purple
Priest
Maiden
Lep
G'N'R
Korn

Yeah I forgot about Van Halen. I agree with you on Def Leppard, probably the only one of the group that got stuck with the "hair metal" label I'd induct. And yes to GN'R.

I'm not as convinced on Korn myself, but I agree if you want the Hall to basically be a sort of checklist of the most important acts of the important movements, Korn is a respectable choice for that era of metal.

Faith No More should be the nu-metal representative, not Korn. Rock Hall Projected got that right.

It was only after I left this site, say about 15 minutes later, that I realized someone would bring this up.

I agree with you about Faith No More being a representative for nu-metal. One of the reasons I mention Korn is that we're dealing w/the Rock Hall here. While we both no FNM has as much right as Korn to lay claim to represent nu-metal, which one of the two do you think the Hall would choose?

Korn has all the trappings that the Hall likes to see, + they did have a geniune musical hand in the era. Not that I am disrespecting FNM, but I think we all know who would be Cleveland's choice, if necessary...
