Jim Messiaa was a great mandolin player, as exemplified on songs like "Watching The River Run" and "Be Free." Some of Kenny Loggins' early work influenced people like Richard Marx. Messina's "Golden Ribbons" was written during the vietnam War, and ist still relevant to the war in Iraq.

We see young men our own age in coffins
And mothers in tears for their sons
And sweethearts and wives, alone with their memories
And golden ribbons, those fortunes of war

Great band.. to bad they don't just put in Jimmy Messina

Since Messina is already in with Buffalo Springfield, the chances of the Hall inducting these founders of "yacht rock" is about 2% maybe 3% if that.

Rock & Roll Jeopardy
Category: If They Collaborated
If L&M were to collaborate with Genesis, the result would be...
What is "Your Mama Don't Dance On A Volcano?"

"Yacht rock?" What sort of a mystical genre is this? Is this related to elevator music? Do Jimmy Buffet and Hall and Oates have anything to do with this nautical menagerie?

That's "Buffett," sorry!! Hopefully no "Parrotheads" have taken note of this minor slip-up.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE, FOLKS

Beat's the heck out of me. Only prognosticator would know exactly.

Prognosticator used to always come to this site. I think he's prognosticated himself out of existence.

The nearest I can come to Yacht Rock for either of these acts might be Hall & Oates's "Out of Touch". I'm thinking maybe there's some "I am the Walrus"-like backwards messaging here, maybe to the extent of "we've lost our compass and sextant at sea, send an S.O.S." Coul explain why they were out of touch...

Also, maybe Margaritaville is secretly the pirate capital of Port Royal, Jamaica...

I do know that "Your Mama Don't Dance" will inevitably wander through my mind faster than anything else named "yacht rock" most likely will.

I was sure hoping somebody would save from the infamous yacht rock. Thanks for having my back, Cheesecrop!

Otherwise King Loggins and Queen Messina would probably Knight me as "Commodore Such-and-Such" and would bound me shackle and chain to be forced to listen to Lord Hall and Captain Oates' "Maneater" on repeat for eons!

Cheesecrop, you can be The Lobster King if you so wish, but I warn you, such a title is not patented and any copyright infringement upon The Lizard King may be taken up in court. HOWEVER, I can assure King and Queen Loggins/Messina are not held accountable for the title of Jim Morrison's aquatic imitation. (As for The Crab King, let's not even go there!!!)

I might be "Out of Touch" but "I AM the Walrus"

So we set sail to Margaritaville in all her Parrothead glory!!!

Perhaps the most embarrassing thing about all that is the fact I'm completely sober right now...

Danny's Song is one of the best known songs in Rock history that never charted on the Billboard 100, but played heavily on the radio and covered by many artists, including Ann Murray.
