Strange how Big Brother and the Holding Company haven't gotten in already. After all, they were Janis' backing band. I guess it must be the fact that the backing members aren't as well known as Janis herself. Meh.

Its hard to believe it has been 45 years since her death (as of today, its anniversary). I was not around, in fact it wasn't until I was probably 12 I started learning about her music. Then her tragic death. Today I read a decent article about her, as I love learning more from rock legends. I had no idea she was friends with Seasick Steve, and how she was admired and envied by other big names at the time (Mama Cass & Grace Slick).

The rest is history, I guess. Like all rockers who died too young, I can't picture Janis still being alive today. I'm actually glad she didn't live to see rock being over-commercialized and overtaken by greed. She's got a lot of imitators who are willing to take her place, but there will only be one Janis Joplin.

I want everyone to know about my InductTheGroups campaign pushing for different Backing groups to be inducted, and Big Brother is amongst them.

Janis Joplin's 1973 "Greatest Hits" album is now an 8x Platinum record, will it go diamond soon? If so, then she deserves it rightfully so.
