They had one of the best songs of the 90's with "The Way" I'm in awe of how great that song is!! Best song of the year it came out! Rock on Fastball!! Vote yes people!!

Fyi makes a good point. Their debut album "All the Pain Money Can Buy" was a great first album. It's too bad they didn't have as good of a second album but a good group nevertheless.

.
lol That is so Shallow !! Gee I think I like their other CD'S ..Have said that..Sometimes all you need is 1 hit and they said/did it all in "The Way" You might want to listen to it and think where you're going LOL or are you just "Out of MY Head"?

Yes we need oodles of Hollywood HYPE hits ??? LOL
What ever LOL

mrxyz...I have finally figured out some of your criteria for being in the HOF;

A) About 10 people have ever heard of the artist(s)
and...
B) They wouldn't even be a good garage band!!!

Not everyone deserves a "yes" vote...let alone induction!!! According to you, everyone you've ever liked deserves induction!!1 I can honestly say that a lot of artists I've liked over the years will only get into the HOF if they sneak in!!! Fastball...spare me!!!!

Beware the "mrxyz HYPE"

Posted by Gitarzan on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 12:17pm

How is that shallow mrxyz? I'm saying that had Fastball done more albums like the first, they would have a wider body of work and an induction would be a lot more likely. Virtually no one who is in the hall has had only 1 hit. (I have a feeling someone's going to say that "but __ had only 1 hit and are in" which is why I said "virtually" no one)

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 12:37pm

I dunno Gitarzan, I kind of like the mrxyz hype.

Posted by Mr. Octagon on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 12:39pm

"Not everyone deserves a yes vote." True, but Fastball sure does!!

Keebord

Plenty in the RHOF had no 1# hit or only 1 hit top 10 hit and some had a kinda hit maybe....
A top 10 1# hit wonder is all it takes.. Having said that......
Fastball other CD's are great.. Just no big Hollywood Hype.. They said it all in 1 song ??? {Wink}...Please go listen to it again.. I think it applies to many even myself sometimes!!Then some have lots of "HIT" that as far as I am concern means 000000000000000{SMILE}

YES

Gitarzan

I am disappointed in you

A) About 10 people have ever heard of the artist(s)
and...
B) They wouldn't even be a good garage band!!!

I can't think of anyone I have mention with praise that would fit into this..
Are you saying Fastball is less than even garage band {What ever that is}? and if that were something bad??

Posted by mrxyz on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 13:12pm

I already looked into it mrxyz. Thanks for the advice.

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 13:22pm

Gitarzan

Fastball have sold millions of albums and "The Way" went to #1. Looks like more then just "10 people" have heard of Fastball. I'd say ignorance? Check.

Posted by Burrows on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 13:25pm

Wow Burrows. I'm going to quote Gitarzan from the Tom Jones discussion. "Hide the silverware!!!"

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 13:27pm

Keeboard

Non had more than 1 a top ten rock and roll hit if any ... and some that did didn't even write the hit...

The Ventures
Leonard Cohen
Miles Davis
Billie Holiday
Frank Zappa

mrxyz... I completely agree with you. I think Fastball had a great song called "The Way" and few other hits. I also think Fastball is a pretty good band. I don't see where you think I disagree with you!!

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 15:09pm

"And a few other hits" is what I meant to say. That sounds better!!

Btw, it's "Keebord" (No hard feelings though)

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 15:12pm

I believe it was Fastball who had a song I liked called "Fire Escape", though I could be wrong on that.

Posted by Brian on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 15:45pm

I forgot about Hawaii five O.. Oh well they didn't write any of the Hit tunes lol not that that matters I find them BORING copy cats...Taking credit for others that did them better..Thank God for MC Garrett,

To me they are the worst inductee... It should of been the Surfaris or maybe Dick Dale...
All I am saying is all it takes is a 1 hit wonder Nothing wrong with that.. The Kingsmen should be in for Louie Louie....

Posted by mrxyz on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 16:12pm

Well you can't induct every 1 hit wonder and I think Percy Sledge is the worst inductee.

Posted by Brian on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 16:36pm

Seriously? I think Madonna HAS to be the worst inductee.

Posted by Keebord on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 17:33pm

Having only one top ten hit does not make one a One-Hit Wonder.... the Who only had one hit in the top ten, but they were DEFINITELY NOT a one-hit wonder.

And just because Dick Dale and the Surfaris (and I'm still not convinced on the latter) deserve induction, doesn't mean the Ventures didn't deserve theirs. It's not a "one or the other" game.

LOl you're not convinced on the later even after the facts say diffident other than Hollywood Hype..{OK?? LOL}
As far as Fastball goes as mentioned these player play..

Ps I have noticed on many fantastic musicians and bands, I have been the first or one of the first votes or to say anything...Another fact...LOl
If they are't big HYPE many here don't talk....
I will give it to the RHOF they have had good list of bands/artist....!!

Yes to the RHOF !! Fastball rocks!!!!

Posted by mrxyz on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 18:45pm

"LOl you're not convinced on the later even after the facts say diffident other than Hollywood Hype..{OK?? LOL}"

Facts don't always add up the way you want them too. "Wipe Out" is a major record, but I don't consider it earth-shattering in the way that "Blue Suede Shoes," or "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" were. Yes, they had other hits, but so did Perkins, Lymon & co., and Sledge, but they're all really remembered for one song, and it's not because of hype or lack thereof.

"Ps I have noticed on many fantastic musicians and bands, I have been the first or one of the first votes or to say anything...Another fact...LOl
If they are't big HYPE many here don't talk...."

Another fact: a good deal of us don't talk at all unless it's in the capacity of replying to someone else.

Another fact: if an artist was inducted before this site went up, chances are they won't be commented on as much either.

You had a fact, but you reaced the wrong conclusion for it.

As for Fastball, I have nothing to say.
Only song I know of theirs is "The Way."
I'm not too big on modern rock, just not my taste.
So for me to partake would be an utter waste.
Nothing to say, nothing to type.
Don't give a s*** one way or another, even with Hollywood Hype.

I am not up with many so called new acts So I go back to the early ones.. Not much choice lol
Fastball ROCKS YES !!!!!

Posted by mrxyz on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 19:14pm

Didn't say they were a garage band...just not ready for the HOF (yet...who knows). All I'm saying is that mrxyz wants EVERYONE to be inducted. Can't he say...just once..."They're a pretty good band but I can't see them ever getting into the HOF"!!! Geez....!!!!

As for this group, 1 number one and 5 million albums sold...oh, boy!!! They and about 1000 other artists have done the same thing!!! Let's have a parade for them!!!!

Posted by Gitarzan on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 19:23pm

That's a good idea. It would be a great party. (I'm completely serious)

Posted by Bud on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 19:26pm

Gitarzan
To me what should put them in is something special whether it be 1 hit or a 100.. It is what they did..not how may hits they did,,, I do think a hit can help and says a lot.... Sometimes the 1 hit says it all..Sometimes a 1000 says nothing...

Posted by mrxyz on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 19:30pm

WOW....with an attitude like that you'd be perfect for the nominating committee. That's why I try to refrain as much as I can saying anyone should or shouldn't be inducted. As for Fastball, a lot can happen in the next 13 years...

mrxyz...I don't always agree with you, but I try to understand everyone's point of view and always respect yours...

Posted by Gitarzan on Sunday, 11.16.08 @ 19:35pm

Gitarzan
thanks but the RHOF needs $$$ and that is what can drive them sometimes..{HOLLYWOOD HYPE} ask Madonna lol

Starters:
@Cheesecrop
Yes, they did write and play "Fire Escape"

Secondly: All the Pain Money Can Buy was NOT their debut album, it was their second album the first being Make Your Mama Proud.

"The Way" - reached 1 for US Modern Rock as well as in number of other categories
"Fire Escape' - reached 13 for US Modern Rock
"Out of My Head" - a ballad didn't hit modern rock charts but was top in mainstream charts
Their songs are featured in 13 different movies or TV shows.
E.g. "Sooner or Later" is in "The Waterboy" & (a cover) "This Guy's in Love With You" is in "Failure to Launch"

I think it's safe to say their music is known and liked by a lot, the question is who recognizes it as being them. This is the only problem Fastball has imo. They have fallen out of the spotlight even though they still put out top music, they are truly the last great pop-rock band out there. They just need to land a big hit again and I have no doubts that they will eventually get into the HoF.

I wish "Are You Ready For the Fallout?" was on the 2nd or 3rd album and not the 1st; it didn't get enough time on the radio to be recognized and I think it's their best song.

They have put out a lot of good songs in the recent past, but with today's air waves being controlled by terrible music.... To really break through again they need to write a song that can't be ignored another great song like "The Way"

They had two hits: "The Way" and "Out of My Head". Both are great songs, but I still don't think they'll even touch the ballot. Definite no, IMO.
