I love Bobby Rydell, and I would vote to put him in. Unfortunately, I think he's doomed to never get nominated. Nothing majorly Cam-Park has gotten the nod ever, and will never get the nod until the NomCom realize that rock'n'roll isn't just the music of the Black people (paraphrased from Wenner's opening remarks at the 2008 ceremonies), but was also in the beginning the music of the youth... the teenage scene. Until the youth factor is re-instated into the equation... Bobby, Chubby, founder Bernie, and writing-production workhorses Dave and Kal will never get the recognition they so richly deserve.

Actually, the earliest rock and roll, things like "Good Rockin' Tonight" by Wynonie Harris and "The Fat Man" by Fats Domino and "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" by Sticks McGhee were aimed at adults, not kids. It wasn't until a few years later that it started to be geared towards kids.

BOBBY RYDELL WELL OVER QUILIFIES TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE RRHOF. HE STILL PERFORMS TO SOLD OUT CONCERTS,IN THE US AND OTHER COUNTRIES, AND VERY MUCH IN DEMAND. BOBBY'S TALENTS INCLUDE, SINGING, DANCING, OUTSTANDING DRUMMER, EXCELLENT ACTOR, AND COMEDIAN. HE HAS 2 STREETS NAMED AFTER HIM, AND WAS JUST AWARDED THE SACKLER AWARD. BOBBY IS CONSIDERED TO BE OF THE 'TRUE ROOTS' OF ROCK AND ROLL, ISNT THAT WHAT THE RRHOF IS ALL ABOUT? PLEASE CONSIDER BOBBY, AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM RECIEVE THE HONOR, THAT HE SO WELL DESERVES.

Bobby Rydell - Swingin' School

What is this song about? Is it about an actual school that teaches you dances from the swing era? What else could it be? What does it mean? Is it sxual?

Chicks (ah)
Kicks (ah)
Cats (ah)
Cool (ah)
Ah, school
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I go a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Where the chicks are kicks
And the cats are cool
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well we dance the greatest
And we dress the latest
Whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school
(Ah, Bobby, ah)
(Everythings cool), that's cool
(We're glad you go to a swingin' school)
My little chick is my heart's desire
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well the way we kiss
It puts the school on fire
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Ah, chicks (ah)
Kicks (ah)
Cats (ah)
Cool (ah)
Yeah, school (aaah, ah, ah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well
(Whoa-oh, whoa-oh)
[Instrumental Interlude]
(Whoa-oh, whoa-oh)
(Ah
(Ah)
After school we have to rendezvous
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Gonna plan all the things
That we're gonna do
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Trade bookin' for cookin'
And I'll quit my lookin'
When our days at the school are through
(Ah, Bobby, ah)
(Everythings cool, that's cool)
(We're glad you go to a swingin' school)
We live and love by the golden rule
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
We're gonna settle down
At a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well have a house and car
A swimmin' pool
Whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
I said, a whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school

You're joking, right, Roy?

No, I'm serious! What is Swingin' School about?

Posted by Roy on Wednesday, 08/27/2014 @ 23:11pm

It's probably about how cool school is.

Posted by Greg F on Thursday, 08/28/2014 @ 00:11am

Or at least THAT school is. With movies like "Rebel Without A Cause" and "The Blackboard Jungle," and songs like "Back To School Again" by Timmie "Oh Yeah" Rogers and the Jamies' "Summertime, Summertime" (which, if you guys haven't inducted into the Song Project yet, you really need to give it serious consideration)... the teen culture that rock'n'roll had become, the idea of a cool school was novel. "Swingin'" simply refers to the colloquial of awesome, like "having a swingin' time."

In other words, it's about a school that isn't soul-sucking.

Bobby Rydell just has to be in the HOF. Great singer and many great songs. Real good showman.
And did somebody say Connie Francis isn't in the HOF? Ouch!

Bobby Rydell is a true musician. Why he hasn't been inducted is an insult not only to him but to millions of fans who still flock to see him. After a double transplant he is still taking the stage with a voice that is as strong as ever. He was the youngest entertainer to perform at the Cococabana. The Beatles have spoken about his influence on them .....yeah, yeah yeah in case you've forgotten. Looking at the various so called entertainers who have been inducted, I think he's too good for whoever makes the decisions. Regardless of my personal opinion about the HOF, snubbing him is wrong.

I love Bobby Rydell. Yes Bobby Rydell should be in the RRHOF. Hard to believe he is not. His voice is like no other. And he was always a really handsome guy to me.He has been my teenage idol for more than 60 years. Bobby Rydell has my YES vote now and always.

Rock and Roll was in the beginning the music of the youth... the teenage scene. Until the youth factor is re-instated into the equation... Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, etc. will never get the recognition they so richly deserve, and neither will producer Bernie Lowe or songwriters Kal Mann and Dave Appell.
