Hmmm
I never thought of him as Elis... I do know that he was the throg in his day and he can really sing.. A true rock legend of fame and did I mention CLASS..

When I was young he helped me get home from a gig.. I was broken down late at night on old route 66 in Ca..in 1972 ..he was coming back from LV on his away to a Dick Clark show tyhe next day . He pulled over and gave me an my band mates a ride also some words of hope with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye..,,, Now that is true cool... SO YES
PS the early ones are the true rockers !....

I love Bobby Rydell, and I would vote to put him in. Unfortunately, I think he's doomed to never get nominated. Nothing majorly Cam-Park has gotten the nod ever, and will never get the nod until the NomCom realize that rock'n'roll isn't just the music of the Black people (paraphrased from Wenner's opening remarks at the 2008 ceremonies), but was also in the beginning the music of the youth... the teenage scene. Until the youth factor is re-instated into the equation... Bobby, Chubby, founder Bernie, and writing-production workhorses Dave and Kal will never get the recognition they so richly deserve.

Nicely said Philip. I think a lot of people are forgetting about the "teenage scene" of rock and roll. Rydell and Checker get my vote, as do a few others from that era as well. *coughjackscottjohhnyriversconniefrancisbobbyveebobbyvintonetccough*

Steve Z-- better get checked out for that cough there. Gotta say I disagree with Bobby Vinton... he was a latter day bandleader type of singer. He was like a safe Gene Pitney, imo.

Jack Scott... probably wouldn't go for him... maybe

Vee... only if the rest of the ballot was really weak.

Yes to Rivers and Francis though

To each his own.

No prob... There are people I'd induct that I'm sure you'd roll your eyes at, so 'sall good.

Rydell should be in the Hall of Fame. He was the original cross over artist he was a major part of the early days of rock and roll where we learned that some of the pretty boys of early rock could really sing - mainly him.

He is a real rocker !

To Philip

Which Bernie, Dave and Kal are you talking about? I need full names.

Posted by Roy on Friday, 12.3.10 @ 06:00am

Bernie Lowe, Kal Mann, Dave Appell

Posted by Roy on Friday, 12.3.10 @ 06:18am

Those would be the guys, Roy.

Posted by Philip on Friday, 12.3.10 @ 18:36pm

If Bernie Lowe, Kal Mann, and Dave Appell were to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the non-performers category would each be inducted seperately or would they be inducted like Holland-Dozier-Holland, or Gamble & Huff. I'm guessing there would be one induction for Bernie Lowe and a second induction for Kal Mann and Dave Appell as a duo.

Bernie Lowe as the founder
Mann and Appell as a songwriting duo.

That's how it would most likely go.

We need to return to Bobby Rydell, for his giving of himself, over 50 yrs of great music, by inducting him in the RRHOF. A long over due HONOR, he so gratiously deserves.

BBBY RYDELL WELL OVER QUILIFIES TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE RRHOF. HE STILL PERFORMS TO SOLD OUT CONCERTS,IN THE US AND OTHER COUNTRIES, AND VERY MUCH IN DEMAND. BOBBY'S TALENTS INCLUDE, SINGING, DANCING, OUTSTANDING DRUMMER, EXCELLENT ACTOR, AND COMEDIAN. HE HAS 2 STREETS NAMED AFTER HIM, AND WAS JUST AWARDED THE SACKLER AWARD. BOBBY IS CONSIDERED TO BE OF THE 'TRUE ROOTS' OF ROCK AND ROLL, ISNT THAT WHAT THE RRHOF IS ALL ABOUT? PLEASE CONSIDER BOBBY, AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM RECIEVE THE HONOR, THAT HE SO WELL DESERVES.

Actually, the earliest rock and roll, things like "Good Rockin' Tonight" by Wynonie Harris and "The Fat Man" by Fats Domino and "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" by Sticks McGhee were aimed at adults, not kids. It wasn't until a few years later that it started to be geared towards kids.

Bobby Rydell - Swingin' School

What is this song about? Is it about an actual school that teaches you dances from the swing era? What else could it be? What does it mean? Is it sxual?

Chicks (ah)
Kicks (ah)
Cats (ah)
Cool (ah)
Ah, school
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I go a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Where the chicks are kicks
And the cats are cool
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well we dance the greatest
And we dress the latest
Whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school
(Ah, Bobby, ah)
(Everythings cool), that's cool
(We're glad you go to a swingin' school)
My little chick is my heart's desire
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well the way we kiss
It puts the school on fire
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Ah, chicks (ah)
Kicks (ah)
Cats (ah)
Cool (ah)
Yeah, school (aaah, ah, ah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well
(Whoa-oh, whoa-oh)
[Instrumental Interlude]
(Whoa-oh, whoa-oh)
(Ah
(Ah)
After school we have to rendezvous
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Gonna plan all the things
That we're gonna do
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Trade bookin' for cookin'
And I'll quit my lookin'
When our days at the school are through
(Ah, Bobby, ah)
(Everythings cool, that's cool)
(We're glad you go to a swingin' school)
We live and love by the golden rule
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
We're gonna settle down
At a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
Well have a house and car
A swimmin' pool
Whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school
(La, la-la-la, la, la, la)
I said, a whoa-whoa-whoa
I go a swingin' school

You're joking, right, Roy?

Posted by Philip on Wednesday, 08.27.14 @ 21:42pm

No, I'm serious! What is Swingin' School about?

Posted by Roy on Wednesday, 08.27.14 @ 23:11pm

It's probably about how cool school is.

Posted by Greg F on Thursday, 08.28.14 @ 00:11am

Or at least THAT school is. With movies like "Rebel Without A Cause" and "The Blackboard Jungle," and songs like "Back To School Again" by Timmie "Oh Yeah" Rogers and the Jamies' "Summertime, Summertime" (which, if you guys haven't inducted into the Song Project yet, you really need to give it serious consideration)... the teen culture that rock'n'roll had become, the idea of a cool school was novel. "Swingin'" simply refers to the colloquial of awesome, like "having a swingin' time."

In other words, it's about a school that isn't soul-sucking.

Bobby Rydell just has to be in the HOF. Great singer and many great songs. Real good showman.
And did somebody say Connie Francis isn't in the HOF? Ouch!
