She ranks Duane Eddy higher than Sabbath and Van Halen, but which young person today reminisces about or is directly influenced by Eddy? This is a clear double standard; let's not deny it.

Bias against heavy metal?? I literally ranked Zeppelin at #10, AC/DC at #76, and Kiss, Metallica, and Sabbath way, way higher than Deep Purple. The reason why I ranked Van Halen low is because, again, their influence doesn't seem to resonate with today's younger bands. Eddie Van Halen as an influential individual, yes. But as a band??

But you also rate Van Halen too low, which is absurd.

Eddie Van Halen greatly influenced many guitarists in that era. He popularized the tapping technique—I know he didn't invent it, but he made it famous. You can see his impact across genres, including heavy metal and hair metal. Without Eddie Van Halen, their sound would be drastically different. He also helped drive the popularity of heavy metal in America.

And you rate him below Peter Frampton? That's almost at the bottom. I don't understand how a band with one of the top ten greatest guitarists in history (often in the top five on many lists), known for their revolutionary impact, can be so undervalued by you.

Are you kidding me?

I would respectfully ask you not to question my taste in music. All of my tastes in music are eclectic. As I said before I like Deep Purple. I just don't think their influence on today's younger generation of metal is as big as Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, Motörhead, Priest, Metallica.

I'm a fan of Ghost, Disturbed, System of a Down, In This Moment, Code Orange, August Burns Red, Spiritbox and they always, always, always cited Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica as influences. Even Code Orange and Spiritbox cited non-metal acts like Kate Bush and Tori Amos as influences.

Also, yes, women art pop has more enduring effect on popular music than heavy metal and hard rock.

There are almost no main hard rock/heavy acts in 10s. Whereas now we have a ton of women art pop and indie acts.

Heavy music heavily relies on guitar and now does not have power before where as women art pop indie acts can use electronic sounds to make more modern music

So it is somewhat incomparable.

No, actually, Deep Purple's influence is still huge on modern heavy acts, Slipknot, Dream Theater, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Black Label Society, Symphony X.

And Jack White and Flaming Lips are also influenced by Purple (they are not heavy acts)

It is possibly because you are not huge heavy music fan (I think you hear way more indie music than heavy music), so you do not know heavy music that well.

I guess I wasn't being specific when I said they're not as big of an influence as Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, Motörhead, and Metallica because while Maiden, Motörhead, Metallica cite them as an influence, you rarely hear Deep Purple's name as an influence by modern day, younger generation of hard rock / metal acts.

For example, Laura Nyro influenced the likes of Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Rickie Lee Jones, Todd Rundgren, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, but also modern day singer/songwriters like Feist, Regina Spektor, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Esperanza Spalding.

Yea as much as the internet loves king crimson the larger public and music press doesn't really know them, even in the UK when it comes to non itcotck and red. Like Fripp got more coverage for his antics with his wife doing cover songs than KC did for their recent tour.

Not everyone watches fantano or uses Rym. Even pitchfork doesn't seem to have a hard on for them.

They're respected and seen as influential but they're not a band people seem to go to bat for irl.

They got passed over for Genesis, rush, yes, peter Gabriel, yes, and Kate Bush. I suspect supertramp, ELP, or meat loaf is more likely than them to show up on a ballot
