I wont even attempt to rank all inductees like that, itd take far too long and also I cannot possibly properly gage the influence of acts like the dells and flamingos who I know practically nothing on. there's also the factor of my own interests (I mostly listen to rock) that I would be biased in favor of against stuff I don't listen to as much. IMO there's like tiers of hall of famers like this site has listed somewhere: bottom tier includes all double inductee solo acts (sorry John Paul George Ringo Gabriel Rod Beck Clapton Carole Tina Stevie Ozzy Lou Simon Clyde mcphatter and yes even micheal Jackson) I think all are deserving but a band induction technically represents each just as well. also acts that are in for individual songs (cough Percy sledge cough) no matter how important that song is, sorry link Wray. (Kate bush IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS BTW shes way more important than just running up is). Joan Jett/blackhearts would be in this tier if the runaways were also in. they aren't so Joan is spared. above them is acts who get in for having hits, soooo many hits. maybe their great songs, but its that extreme longevity that gets them in. the hollies foreigner, I love these bands but that's why they're in. bon Jovi are another example the next tier is acts that simply represent an era or style of rock, Peter Frampton is a great example, through him you have a perfect representation of the double live commerical boom of the 70s. DMB represent the jam band revival, Journey Represent the arena rock era. the Dave Clark 5 represent British invasion. the spinners, much as I adore them, represent philly soul. not really about influence or importance but about their figureheaddom for something. the highest tier in my mind is acts that undeniably completely changed music history. obviously chuck berry the Beatles stones little richard but also madonna, nirvana, Joni Mitchell, stooges, deep purple black Sabbath, Patti Smith, I could flesh this out wayyyyy more and obviously incomplete, not every act fits neatly into boxes. I neglected mentioning chicago because the jazz rock era has a lot of significance. I also don't think any inductee is unworthy in any way. which also makes ranking every act together so hard, how am I to say if pat benatar is better than sly and the family stone?

Contentions still exist in both sides. See my posts in Steve Hoffman Forum under username Poseidon, I think I have explanation this topic.

Richie I said on the Steve Hoffman Forum under the username Poseidon that only the top 5 of the vote are based on actual voting results. So ATCQ, Cher, Kool, and Mary are the top 4. Foreigner is likely to have made it to #5 through money (just like I said on the Steve Hoffman Forum). I wouldn't rule out DMB, Peter Frampton, and Ozzy using weighted votes like last year. After #5, it's all weighted votes rather than actual voting results. This aligns with the message I posted on the Steve Hoffman Forum using the username Poseidon.

lc, Yes, I believe that you are accurate, but I have to tell you two things: Nominating committee member Alan Light said on Tony Kiriluk (aka Shrek on here)'s Road To Jamnation podcast last year that 7 is now the target number for Performer inductees, not 5, Also, He said on his podcast Sound Up with Mark Goodman regarding this year's inductions that he was told that the 6th, 7th and 8th place finishers were all within a few votes of each other so the Rock Hall put them all in. He also heard there was more distance between 8th and 9th place than 1st and 8th. So I believe that you are still accurate and I should see your accuracy, and You will continue to make accurate predictions, and I believe that Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Alanis Morissette and Devo all have a chance of getting in if on the ballot next year.

I love Luther! The nominal leader of the 80's R&B romanticists…Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, Freddie Jackson. Interesting that people are predicting him as an easy entry next year, but Sade would've been dead last this year. They shared air space on Quiet Storm radio. I guess the men will always have it easier. *Side eyeing the campaigns to acknowledge ATCQ, EB&R and others but ignoring Queen Latifah and Salt n Pepa….* The argument against him and his progenies and his female counterparts though (ie. Anita Baker) is that they glossed over the conventional soul traditions of the 60's and commercialized R&B in a way that wouldn't sit well with rock purists. Ie. David Foster-style overproduction, melodrama, bombast etc. But his style was a necessary stepping stone to the Babyface era and the Neo soul movement of the late 90's when R&B abandoned melodies for glacial tempos and introspective lyrics. I would've thought the Hall would just altogether skip the Luthers and Anitas to go straight for the Maxwells and Erykahs since Neo soul aligns more with their taste…

Two inductee deaths were announced in the same day! Richard Tandy of ELO and Duane Eddy. One closer to the original rock and roll, and the other coming from a part of its eternal evolution. This means one name is added, as most of 2017 is still alive, and one is removed, as most of 1994 is dead. Of the 12 living inductees from 1994, half of them are members of Grateful Dead. So far Richard Tandy, Duane Eddy, Mike Pinder, Dickey Betts, Denny Lane and Henry Farmborough have died since the ceremony, a very small amount compared to previous years. This class is probably too big for a tribute performance. Living members of classes where a minority, half, or none of the inductees are still alive: 1986: 0. They're dead, Jim. 1987: 2/26 (Smokey Robinson and Mike Stroller) 1988: 8/25 (Berry Gordy Jr., Diana Ross, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, Bob Dylan, Al Jardine, Mike Love, and Brian Wilson) 1989: 8/28 (Dion, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, Ron Wood, Bill Wyman, Stevie Wonder, and Otis Williams) 1990: 13/30 (Bob Gaudio, Frankie Vali, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Carole King, Brian Holland, and Edward Holland Jr.) 1991: 5/21 (Chris Hillman, Roger McGuinn, Richard A. I've got zero perspective on Luther. I only know he was gay, he did some schlock Christmas songs, and he's been mentioned in always sunny in philadelphia. to me he seems one of the lesser soul candidates, I'd rather like to see Mary wells or ben e king (double induction) get in.

I'd love to see Luther in. He is so influential, his songs are staples, and yes, I love his voice in a completely respectful way.

lc, Yes, I believe that you are accurate, but I have to tell you one thing, Nominating Committee member Alan Light said on his podcast Sound Up with Mark Goodman that he was told that 6th, 7th and 8th place finishers were all within a few votes of each other so the Rock Hall put them all in. He also heard there was more distance between 8th and 9th place than 1st and 8th. So I believe that you are still accurate and I should see my accuracy, and You will continue to make accurate predictions, and I believe that Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Alanis Morissette and Devo all have a chance of getting in if on the ballot next year.

richie, I believe I am accurate. I said on the Steve Hoffman Forum under the username Poseidon that only the top 5 of the vote are based on actual voting results. So I believe I am still accurate. Richie, you should see my accuracy. I will continue to make accurate predictions.

richie Mariah Carey, Eric B & Rakim, Queen Lafitah, Luther Vandross, New Edition I think all slam-dunks next year. Aaliyah, the Replacements, the Bangles, give you solid 8 performer inductees. Probably some of Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Hooties, Alanis, Bunneymen, Devo, most of them have ZERO chance or ship has sailed. Cyndi Lauper, Warren Zevon no chance since they were screwed by Kate Bush disaster.
