About The Bloodhound Gang, Martin K wrote:
Bloodhound Gang have been a consistent reminder of the roots of rock and roll. Songs about the joys and heartaches of life, laced with clever word play and sexual innuendo, sometimes downright raunchy and in your face. Both in their music and on stage they have continued the tradition of rock being able to offend, entertain and speak to a new generation of kids. From the hilarious, sexually explicit "Three Point One Four" to the subtle, quietly moving "Socially Awkward Penguin", Bloodhound Gang have remained true to themselves and never fallen prey to the lure of commercialism. Intelligent, but unpretentious. Controversial, but uncompromising, Bloodhound Gang definitely tick all the boxes of what many (should) consider the true spirit of Rock And Roll.

Of course, whether or not you believe guest/Poseidon/lc is your freedom, and I have no right to interfere, but I just find your behaviors quite hilarious.

  Agree to disagree,

but I still want to clarify some facts. Within heavy music, Deep Purple holds a "founding" status alongside Led Zeppelin and Sabbath. Deep Purple's influence is not weaker than that of Maiden, Judas Priest, or Motörhead.

Moreover, Sabbath's influence involves more of the dark and evil elements and ideologies affecting metal genres other than doom metal, rather than directly influencing songwriting and arrangement. Power metal, neoclassical metal, and progressive metal were all directly influenced by Deep Purple in terms of composition and arrangement. As for Led Zeppelin, their influence on other genres and overall popular culture is unparalleled, but within heavy music, Purple's influence can be considered comparable to Led Zeppelin.

Deep Purple directly influenced the three metal pioneers: Motörhead, Priest, and Maiden. They also significantly influenced the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal), including bands like Def Leppard and Saxon.

If you question these points, you might want to consider what people in the heavy music circle have said.

Iron Maiden ( https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/bruce-dickinson-on-the-influence-of-deep-purple-and-led-zeppelin/ ):
"Dickinson maintained that he 'was always a bigger Purple fan than Zeppelin.'"

Metallica ( https://www.thehighwaystar.com/news/2009/04/06/metallica-praises-deep-purple/ ):
"I'd say Deep Purple. If you say Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, you also have to say Deep Purple. They come as a threesome."

In a documentary on heavy metal, various individuals were asked who the first metal band was. Lemmy stated it was Deep Purple.

Based on your statement, it seems like you think Deep Purple has a more limited influence on heavy music, and their induction is not because they significantly influenced heavy music but because they were famous with hit songs, similar to Ozzy, which is certainly limiting. In fact, Deep Purple, like Led Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, Judas Priest, and Motörhead, is revered as a pioneer and a major progenitor in heavy music.

You might not listen to heavy music much. You are underestimating Deep Purple. Deep Purple's influence on heavy metal music is on par with Led Zeppelin, and even comparable to Black Sabbath. Bands like Motörhead, Priest, and Maiden were all directly influenced by Deep Purple. Deep Purple had a profound impact on genres like proto-metal and neoclassical among others. While Led Zeppelin had a broader impact on popular music and culture, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath had a greater influence within the realm of heavy music. Deep Purple certainly had a larger influence than Priest, Motörhead, and Maiden because they directly and deeply influenced them, and the bands influenced by these three metal pioneers also largely regard Deep Purple as a major influence.

For what it's worth, I did rank Deep Purple higher than Ozzy's solo work.

About the 2024 Inductees, will m wrote:
I wont even attempt to rank all inductees like that, itd take far too long and also I cannot possibly properly gage the influence of acts like the dells and flamingos who I know practically nothing on. there's also the factor of my own interests (I mostly listen to rock) that I would be biased in favor of against stuff I don't listen to as much.

IMO there's like tiers of hall of famers like this site has listed somewhere:
bottom tier includes all double inductee solo acts (sorry John Paul George Ringo Gabriel Rod Beck Clapton Carole Tina Stevie Ozzy Lou Simon Clyde mcphatter and yes even micheal Jackson) I think all are deserving but a band induction technically represents each just as well. also acts that are in for individual songs (cough Percy sledge cough) no matter how important that song is, sorry link Wray. (Kate bush IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS BTW shes way more important than just running up is). Joan Jett/blackhearts would be in this tier if the runaways were also in. they aren't so Joan is spared.

above them is acts who get in for having hits, soooo many hits. maybe their great songs, but its that extreme longevity that gets them in. the hollies foreigner, I love these bands but that's why they're in. bon Jovi are another example

the next tier is acts that simply represent an era or style of rock, Peter Frampton is a great example, through him you have a perfect representation of the double live commerical boom of the 70s. DMB represent the jam band revival, Journey Represent the arena rock era. the Dave Clark 5 represent British invasion. the spinners, much as I adore them, represent philly soul. not really about influence or importance but about their figureheaddom for something.

the highest tier in my mind is acts that undeniably completely changed music history. obviously chuck berry the Beatles stones little richard but also madonna, nirvana, Joni Mitchell, stooges, deep purple black Sabbath, Patti Smith,

I could flesh this out wayyyyy more and obviously incomplete, not every act fits neatly into boxes. I neglected mentioning chicago because the jazz rock era has a lot of significance. I also don't think any inductee is unworthy in any way. which also makes ranking every act together so hard, how am I to say if pat benatar is better than sly and the family stone?

Out of the acts who missed out on induction this year for 2024 (Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane's Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O'Connor and Sade), Which ones do you see coming back and getting nominated/inducted next year for 2025 or soon/eventually?.

Family and camp got pissed by the Kate Bush disaster,

some nom com members as well
(Ms.Bush never got support from most voters,
90% past inductees do not know her,
some nom com members also were very dismissive about the "induct who somebody want" strategy)

So it is an embarrassing situation for both sides (rock hall and family or camp). Contentions still exist in both sides.

See my posts in Steve Hoffman Forum under username Poseidon,
I think I have explanation this topic.

Why do you think that because they got screwed by the Kate Bush disaster that Cyndi Lauper and Warren Zevon have no chance next year?.

My percentage is pretty accurate I believe.

As for you question,
it is almost useless

My list is given to you already
This is most likely scenario in next year

What do you think

Yes, I believe you what you said on the Steve Hoffman Forums using username Poseidon is true and You are real information source. You are right again this year. Anyway, Which acts do you think have the biggest beneficiary of the acts getting in this year (Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton) next year for 2025?.

What are your predictions for Performer inductees in the next five years (2025-2029) (If 8 inductees each year)?.

I said on the Steve Hoffman Forum under the username Poseidon that
only the top 5 of the vote are based on actual voting results.

So ATCQ, Cher, Kool, and Mary are the top 4.
Foreigner is likely to have made it to #5 through money (just like I said on the Steve Hoffman Forum).

I wouldn't rule out DMB, Peter Frampton, and Ozzy using weighted votes like last year.

After #5, it's all weighted votes rather than actual voting results.

This aligns with the message I posted on the Steve Hoffman Forum using the username Poseidon.

  lc,

Yes, I believe that you are accurate, but I have to tell you two things: Nominating committee member Alan Light said on Tony Kiriluk (aka Shrek on here)'s Road To Jamnation podcast last year that 7 is now the target number for Performer inductees, not 5, Also, He said on his podcast Sound Up with Mark Goodman regarding this year's inductions that he was told that the 6th, 7th and 8th place finishers were all within a few votes of each other so the Rock Hall put them all in. He also heard there was more distance between 8th and 9th place than 1st and 8th. So I believe that you are still accurate and I should see your accuracy, and You will continue to make accurate predictions, and I believe that Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Alanis Morissette and Devo all have a chance of getting in if on the ballot next year.

I love Luther! The nominal leader of the 80's R&B romanticists…Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, Freddie Jackson. Interesting that people are predicting him as an easy entry next year, but Sade would've been dead last this year. They shared air space on Quiet Storm radio. I guess the men will always have it easier. *Side eyeing the campaigns to acknowledge ATCQ, EB&R and others but ignoring Queen Latifah and Salt n Pepa….*

The argument against him and his progenies and his female counterparts though (ie. Anita Baker) is that they glossed over the conventional soul traditions of the 60's and commercialized R&B in a way that wouldn't sit well with rock purists. Ie. David Foster-style overproduction, melodrama, bombast etc. But his style was a necessary stepping stone to the Babyface era and the Neo soul movement of the late 90's when R&B abandoned melodies for glacial tempos and introspective lyrics. I would've thought the Hall would just altogether skip the Luthers and Anitas to go straight for the Maxwells and Erykahs since Neo soul aligns more with their taste…
