The Rock Hall Fan Vote History and Totals

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame began the "Fan Vote" in 2013, where the top five^* fan favorites are submitted as one official ballot to be counted with the rest of the Voting Committee's. Although the mathematical impact of the fans' choices is less than 0.3% of the total, the "horse race" coverage of the poll has given it disproportionate level of importance among fans and the press.

* - In 2024, the Rock Hall began allowing fans (and official voters) to vote for seven artists. The top seven from the fan vote are submitted as an official ballot.

As a purely online poll, the Fan Vote has had a history of problems including bots (2015, 2016), self-described "voting anomalies" (2022), and other irregularities (2017, 2023). Despite these technical issues, the Rock Hall continues to accept the results as valid and makes the Fan Vote a major part of the story when the nominees are announced each year.

Historically, 57% of artists who finish in the top five are inducted that year. Although it's not guaranteed, the top winner of the Fan Vote has been inducted every year except for the Dave Matthews Band in 2020. Conversely, just one artist has finished dead last in the poll but still been inducted -- Jay-Z in 2021, who became a first ballot inductee.

When reviewing the results below, it should be noted that voting durations have varied between 6 and 12 weeks and various polling systems and rules have been used over the years.
