Future Rock Legends predicts the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees

One of the lasting impressions from the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ballot season was the shameless public campaign by Foreigner to get inducted. It was a total disruption to previous years, where the most you would see from artists were modest requests to fans on social media to vote in the Fan Poll. Foreigner's novel approach, led by Mark Ronson, was to get celebrities and Hall of Famers to film themselves acting incredulous that they weren't already in and to directly ask for votes. Once a video was released of Paul McCartney endorsing Foreigner, it was game over.

Could any of the other artists on the ballot done something similar? Yeah, of course. Imagine a video for Eric B. & Rakim that had testimonials from Eminem, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, and Stevie Wonder. Would that have gotten them over the top? It might take something that overt to get the attention of voters who just need a tangible justification for their vote when they don't have much else to go on.

Will the 2025 nominees learn from Foreigner, or will they sit back and let fate decide? Can't wait to find out...

With the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee meeting this week to develop the 2025 ballot, here are the 14 artists we predict will be nominated:

Artists who have never been nominated...

  • Coldplay - Nominating Committee member Questlove had them in his IG nominee story last year, so there's little question they were on the ballot until they were pulled at the last minute once the Rock Hall figured out the would still be touring at the time of the ceremony. With that out of the way, they are a virtual lock for 2025.
  • Snoop Dogg - Few celebrities had bigger years than Snoop Dogg did in 2024. His omnipresence will be fresh in the minds of the Nominating Committee when they're looking for icons who haven't been honored yet.
  • De La Soul - The Hall has been playing catch-up with hip hop artists because they have acted like they could only induct one deserving artist in that genre per year. De La Soul appears to be next in line to get a nomination.
  • Alanis Morissette - After headlining "New Year's Rockin' Eve," Alanis is poised for a big year. With a world tour on tap, she was a 2025 nominee for the Songwriters Hall of Fame and will be performing during FireAid. This could finally be her Rock Hall moment.
  • Emmylou Harris - New Nominating Committee members are shown a lot of deference in their first year with the group, especially when they are Hall of Famers. Look for Sheryl Crow to get a "win" by getting one of her primary influences on the ballot for the first time.
  • Joe Cocker - Rock Hall Chairman John Sykes recently brought up Cocker's name as someone who deserves to get inducted and a nomination would throw a bone to the Woodstock generation who are still an important demographic for the institution (despite their rhetoric that they have moved on).
  • The B-52's - Sykes also responded to a question about The B-52's and acknowledged that they had been previously discussed in the meeting but then pivoted to how the Nominating Committee is just the first hurdle and the 1,200 voters also need to be convinced, implying that they may not have enough general support to get inducted. Don't be surprised to see them get their first chance this year, especially after Who Cares About the Rock Hall's Joe Kwaczala stumped for them in a direct plea to the NomCom.
  • Billy Idol - Is it really as simple as appearing at the previous year's induction ceremony to finally get a nomination?

Artists who have previously been nominated...

  • The Smiths - The Rock Hall may as well get some reps with, uh, flawed inductees before Kanye West becomes eligible in 2027. The Smiths can't be ignored forever, so you may as well take the opportunity to induct a seminal British band while Oasis is out on tour this year.
  • Warren Zevon - Another John Sykes favorite should get another nomination after he shockingly missed out in 2023.
  • Cyndi Lauper - Like Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper has been willing to "play ball" with the Rock Hall. After missing out in 2023, she should be back to try again this year.
  • Iron Maiden - Nominating Committee member Tom Morello has publicly said Iron Maiden is his number one priority, so look for them to get one more chance with a clear metal lane in front of them, before getting relegated to Musical Excellence next year.
  • Mariah Carey - She made news last year when she quipped that her lawyer got inducted before her. The Rock Hall probably enjoys the attention even if it should be humiliating to them.
  • Lenny Kravitz - Who was the only unlucky artist to finish in the top seven of the fan vote who didn't get inducted? That's right, Lenny Kravitz. That performance may be enough to convince the Rock Hall to give him another chance right away.

Power,

I think that Coldplay will be like Radiohead and Oasis and they'll fail to get in on their first nomination, but they'll get in on their second nomination just like Radiohead did and Oasis will definitely. so I see Billy Idol and Patti LaBelle being more likely than Coldplay IMO.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Thursday, 12/5/2024 @ 17:08pm

Coldplay is far more popular and industry-friendly than Radiohead and Oasis. They will be touring the United States next summer too, which might give them some media spotlight (not sure if this has influence over anything though, I'm new to this Rock Hall guessing game).

Who will be the next Foreigner/Journey/Doobie Brothers type classic rock band to be nominated?

Ideas:
- Bad Company
- Boston
- Styx
- Supertramp

Posted by xwing1212 on Saturday, 12/7/2024 @ 19:05pm

Xwing1212,

I think that Bad Company and Boston are the only two logical choices here for the next Foreigner/Journey/The Doobie Brothers type classic rock bands to be nominated/inducted, As well as they should be.

What do you think?.

Hey guys!

It's me again!

It's that wonderful time of the year! This year is my fifth time doing this! You are going to see more of my 12 Days of Rock Hall Christmas!

Let's go!

Starting at number 1!

1. The Specials

Origin: Coventry, West Midlands, England

Deceased=*

Band Members: Terry Hall*, Lynval Golding, Horace Panter, Jerry Dammers, Roddy Radiation, Neville Staple, Dick Cuthell, Rico Rodriguez*, John Bradbury*

Essential Albums:
1. The Specials (1979)
2. More Specials (1980)

Essential Songs:
1. A Message to You Rudy (1979)
2. Gangsters (1979)
3. Monkey Man (1979)
4. Ghost Town (1980)
5. Rat Race (1980)

Influence:
Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals

The Legacy:
Blur, Sublime, Less Than Jake

Ska ain't exactly a genre people think highly of. Some see it as a niche genre and others see it as a fad from the 90s not knowing it's origins from the late 70s and before. However, there is no denying an amount of talent has risen from here. Smash Mouth, Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, Goldfinger, Big Reel Fish, and more have kept the genre from being left in the dust. It's all thanks to The Specials. The definitive Ska band they incorporated reggae with punk, sparking a new underground music revolution. Even adding some political messages for variety. Sure they ain't exactly on the radar, but also the Hall is not shy to recognize more underrated acts. Hopefully they get the message from Rudy… I mean The Specials.

Plebeian,

but you listed only seven performers for the 2025 class (Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Boston, The B-52's and War), There were 8 performer inductees last year for the 2024 class, so please add Diana Ross as an 8th inductee for the 2025 class. Thank You.

I know a lot of people want to see Bad Company get in and I don't object it to it trust me

But I still refer to the Tweet that Stevie Van Zandt has apparently failed to get Bad Company and Free nominated multiple times and the fact that his presence has been reduced to the side categories what the most likely outcome is going to be a Paul Rodgers Musical Excellence induction

At least that's how I see it

Hello again let's get on with the show. Here is number two!

2. Silver Apples

Origin: New York, NY

Deceased=*

Band Members: Simeon Cox*, Danny Taylor*

Essential Albums:
1. Silver Apples (1968)
2. Contact (1969)

Essential Songs:
1. Oscillations (1968)
2. Lovefingers (1968)
3. Program (1968)
4. Ruby (1969)
5. I Have Known Love (1969)

Influence:
Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, The Velvet Underground

The Legacy:
Suicide, Stereolab, Faust

With an unintentionally morbid (and hilarious) album cover and a sound so different you will be surprised that it was produced in the 60s, Silver Apples is a rare gem in a sea of 60s acts. A real precursor to electronic music Silver Apples rubbed shoulders with many acts of the 60s such as Jimi Hendrix, T.Rex, and MC5 that made them a great early opener for live performances. Silver Apples revolutionized in its sound of drum looping, filters, and of course oscillations. While the 60s are out of the question now in the main category I would not be surprised that a band who only really gained popularity from music nerds gets a chance for enshrinement for the Rock Hall.

I guess because of his country work?

I have to wonder how or if the Jay Z allegations are going to affect upcoming nominations in the coming years. Obviously he's already in

Posted by GuestG on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 21:00pm

I predict that Billy Idol will get the Pat Benatar/Duran Duran MTV artist slot. He was at the recent ceremony, so he's playing the game, plus he was an early staple of MTV, which would appeal to John Sykes. On top of that, he has a ton of songs people recognize (Mony Mony, White Wedding, Rebel Yell, Cradle of Love, etc.)

Posted by xwing1212 on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 23:18pm

In regards to the Jay Z allegations, I do believe certain artists are quietly blacklisted from nomination. Like Afrika Bambaataa will never get nominated again. Diddy will also never get nominated.

Posted by xwing1212@gmail.com on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 23:22pm

Xwing1212,

I agree with you on Billy Idol, I'd also add Cyndi Lauper to the list as well as she was previously nominated for the 2023 class.

What do you think?.

UNO, DOS, TRES!

3. Johnny Ace (1929-1954)*

*=Deceased

Origin: Memphis, Tennessee

Previously Nominated?: 1986 and 1987

Essential Songs:
1. My Song (1952)
2. Pledging My Love (1955)

Influence:
Nat King Cole, Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Willis

The Legacy:
Solomon Burke, Paul Simon, The Righteous Brothers

Tragedy or freak accident depending on who you ask, Johnny Ace was a flame that burned out too early. Having solo hits as quick as he entered his 20s Johnny Ace became one of the fastest rising young stars that would influence the early Rock of the 50s. Unfortunately, he never got to see it as he died from shooting himself accidentally with a gun. While many people would not care for such an obscure star, it's rather odd the Hall has nominated 2 times in the past. Specifically during the Hall's infancy where he could have been one of the earliest performer inductees. Maybe a pledge to reopen past nominees from years beyond can give him a chance as an early influence?

Do not think Diddy things will make negative influence any potential candidates for Diddy's circle except for Diddy himself.

If you are engaged in Diddy's party, it means that you are very connected and definitely has good chance to nominated by your friends in nom com and voted in.

We should remember that rock hall is an inner circle thing, most influential factor is connection. Recently, 100% performer inductees all have huge connections. If you engage in Diddy's party, you are likely to have connections.

So except for Diddy, others are not criminal as of now, so that engaging in Diddy's party and circle is an advantage to them instead sadly.

Oasis is back! The last rock band that embodied old school sex, drugs, and rock and roll, Oasis was one of the biggest acts ever in the 90s. Helmed by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher they ushered a new era of 90s rock which was the BritPop scene. Their sound so distinct it has made them the face of the 90s UK music scene. They ain't a slouch either elsewhere as Wonderwall has become a staple meme for men with the worst karaoke skills. You could say they only made two good albums, but there is no denying the talent of Oasis. With a reunion tour on the horizon, Oasis seems poised to come back again and be proper Rock Hall Inductees!

I think all slam-dunks next year.

Aaliyah, the Replacements, the Bangles,
give you solid 8 performer inductees.

Probably some of Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Hooties, Alanis, Bunneymen, Devo, most of them have ZERO chance or ship has sailed.

Cyndi Lauper, Warren Zevon no chance since they were screwed by Kate Bush disaster.

Five! Five! Five!

5. TLC

Origin: Atlanta, Georgia

*=Deceased

Members: Tionne "T-Bone" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes*, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas

Essential Albums:
1. CrazySexyCool (1994)
2. Fanmail (1999)
3. 3D (2002)

Essential Songs:
1. Ain't to Proud to Beg (1992)
2. Waterfalls (1994)
3. Creep (1994)
4. No Scrubs (1999)
5. Unpretty (2002)

Influence:
Janet Jackson, The Pointer Sisters, Salt-N-Pepa

The Legacy:
Aaliyah, Becky G, Christina Aguilera

Not to be mistaken for the TV channel of the same name, TLC was a tour de force girl group. Consisting of the sultry "T-Bone", the girl next door "Chilli", and of course the streetwise "Left Eye". They had a short peak, but for a time you couldn't discuss 90s R&B without TLC. Their music has continued to persist in pop culture via commercials and part of a hit Nickelodeon tv series. Hopefully with the Hall embracing R&B in recent years, TLC gets a shot.

At the halfway point now! At number six!

6. Eric B. And Rakim

Origin: Queens, New York

Members: Eric B., Rakim

Previously Nominated: 2012, 2024

Essential Albums:
1. Paid in Full (1987)
2. Follow the Leader (1988)

Essential Songs:
1. Paid in Full (1987)
2. I Ain't No Joke (1987)
3. I Know You Got Soul (1987)
4. Microphone Fiend (1988)
5. Don't Sweat the Technique (1992)

Influence:
Isaac Hayes, Run-D.M.C., Kurtis Blow

The Legacy:
Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep

Eric B. And Rakim were hip-hop's first duo that took the genre by storm. They helped advanced the transition of hip hop to rap at the tail end of the 1980s with amazing lyrical wordplay. Eric created the beats and Rakim was the MC both complementing one another in being the dominant hip hop duo. Even with a recent nomination of this year, there is still those that haven't forgotten their impact. Pump Up the Volume indeed!

The possible ballot for next year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations/inductions.

Bjork

Mariah Carey

Coldplay

Daft Punk

De La Soul

Lauryn Hill

Iron Maiden

Joy Division/New Order

Lenny Kravitz

Cyndi Lauper

Alanis Morrissette

Oasis

OutKast

Diana Ross

Thin Lizzy

Luther Vandross

Additional Honorees:

John Coltrane

New York Dolls

Fela Kuti

Carol Kaye

Ed Sullivan

Tom Wilson

Ngl, my predictions are way more accurate since they all have tremendous credentials to earn induction than some of this year's honorees. Very unfortunate that Cher, DMB, Peter Frampton & Foreigner got in while Joy Division/New Order, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Replacements, OutKast, De La Soul, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Oasis, Beck, The White Stripes & others are still remaining on the outside looking in.

Sleven Seven!

7. Linkin Park

Essential Albums:
1. Hybrid Theory (2000)
2. Meteora (2003)
3. Minutes to Midnight (2007)

5. Living Things (2012)

Essential Songs:

2. One Step Closer (2000)
3. Crawling (2000)
4. Numb (2003)
5. What I've Done (2007)

Influence:
Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Deftones

The Legacy:
Of Mice and Men, Bring Me the Horizon, The Chainsmokers

Inspiring many imitators and amateur YouTube AMVs, Linkin Park was one of the definitive sounds of 2000s rock. For better or worse, they brought back the fading edge in rock and kept that rolling till Chester's tragic death. You know Linkin Park and I know Linkin Park, everyone knows Linkin Park! They were everywhere! With a new singer in Emily Armstrong, Linkin Park is as sharper than ever and now being eligible next year has the Hall watching them now.

Plebeian,

Good to see your 12 days back for another year. Quick comments on what you've presented so far.

You started off with some real dark horses. Silver Apples and Johnny Ace seem highly unlikely to ever get a nom, let alone an induction. I do see a possibility that the Specials are considered for an Early Influence spot, but otherwise their chances are pretty low too.

Oasis is a lock for eventual induction, possibly as soon as this year. They've been discussed plenty on these boards and I'm in agreement with most people that they should find their way back onto the ballot this year. Personally, I've always thought they were a bit overrated, but I can't deny their popularity and impact. My 17-year-old son asked me just last week if I'd ever heard of a song called "Wonderwall" and said he thought it was pretty good.

TLC absolutely belongs in the Hall and I'm a little surprised they don't get more play in these forums. They are an elite level girl group that completely altered how women could be perceived in hip hop and R&B. Now that Mary J. is in, it won't be long before they pop up among the nominees.

EBAR is a tricky one because I don't know how many people outside of hip hop really know that much about them. Their influence and talent is undeniable and the nominating committee clearly has them as a priority, but they may unfortunately have to be side-doored to gain induction.

I agree with everything you said about Linkin Park, yet somehow I don't see them getting their shot in the near future. Not sure why I think that, but it just feels like they are going to have to wait a bit to get their due. It will come though and once they are nominated I think they'll get in. I'd be happy to be completely wrong about this one.

8. 8. PJ Harvey (1969-)

Origin: Dorset, England

Essential Albums:
1. Dry (1992)
2. Rid of Me (1993)
3. To Bring You My Love (1995)
4. Stories from the City, Stories (2000)
5. Let England Shake (2011)

Essential Songs:
1. Rid of Me (1992)
2. 50 Ft Queenie (1992)
3. Down By the Water (1995)
4. This Mess We're In (Featuring Thom Yorke) (2000)
5. Good Fortune (2000)

Influence:
Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits

The Legacy:
Arctic Monkeys, St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

A music career that continues to get better and better throughout the decade, PJ Harvey just gets it. It's honestly quite hard to describe her. From an alt rock goddess to a folksy figure to a social commentary genius there's no denying the amazing range of talent Harvey has. She has rubbed the likes of Nick Cave, Queens of the Stone Age, Thom Yorke, and more into her mess too. The Hall still has a hard time embracing alt rock, but PJ Harvey has the credentials and feminine voice for more female acts.

They're going underground!

9. The Jam

Origin: Woking, Sorey, England

Members: Paul Weller, Rick Buckler, Bruce Foxton

Essential Albums:
1. In the City (1977)
2. All Mod Cons (1978)
3. Setting Sons (1979)
4. Sound Affects (1980)
5. Dig the New Breed (1982)

Essential Songs:
1. In the City (1977)
2. English Rose (1978)
3. Going Underground (1979)
4. That's Entertainment (1980)
5. A Town Called Malice (1982)

Influence:
The Who, Wilson Pickett, Small Faces/Faces

The Legacy:
Green Day, Blur, The Stone Roses

The Jam was everything great about being British. The love of the countryside, hanging with mates at the pub, and of course love of Mother England. They embraced Mod Rock and temporarily revived the style that was once faded away since then. The first throwback kind of band you know? Out of all the English punk bands that came out, they were not an American hit. But in England they were superstars. The Rock Hall has recognized acts that may have not been hit makers here in the U.S., but are still incredibly influential. A real kick in the balls that these glorious band still isn't in.

It's always not unknown when it comes to the most ridiculous RRHOF snubs meaning the committee needs to correct those omissions sooner or later. In retrospect, there's deserving artists who are already inducted based on meeting the criteria of influence, innovation, impact & significance regardless of genres & instruments. However there's others who also got in because of various things that has nothing to do with said criteria. So with said, here's the list of the worst RRHOF inductees of all time.

Journey
Foreigner
Steve Miller
Chicago
Peter Frampton
Darlene Love
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
The Moody Blues
The Zombies
The Hollies
The Dave Clark Five
Bon Jovi
Dire Straits
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Stevie Nicks
Carly Simon
Laura Nyro
Percy Sledge
Lloyd Price
Bobby Darin
Gene Pitney
The Lovin Spoonful

Look I have nothing against these artists, it's just they didn't changed anything related to the whole development of rock & roll as an legitimate art form while their work has rarely been less remembered by experts & historians!

Band Members: Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Gar Samuelson*, Chris Poland, Marty Friedman, Nick Menza*, Jimmy DeGrasso, Shawn Drover, Chris Broderick

Essential Albums:
1. Peace Sells…Who's Buying? (1986)
2. Rust in Peace (1990)
3. Countdown to Extinction (1992)

5. A Tout Le Monde (1994)

Influence:
Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden

The Legacy:
Pantera, Dream Theater, Rob Zombie

The heavy metal band to rival Metallica, Megadeth was a true beast in what was a vast sea of other heavy metals of the time. Led by a fired up (literally) and spiteful Dave Mustaine, Megadeth was like the Sega Genesis to Metallica's Super Nintendo. Megadeth focused more on social commentary and nihilism of society. Life sucks and you will learn to deal with it! They were much more appealing and aggressive in their sound, going for a more thrash metal vibe than anything. As controversial as Mustaine is you would be lying to yourself if you didn't believe he was the sh*t. Heavy Metal is sadly still in the infant stage for the Hall and mostly having to rely on questionable inductions (JP in "Musical Excellence") and old favorites (Ozzy) to make sure they are not neglecting the genre. When that time comes hopefully Megadeth's turn will happen. I mean they did the Duke Nukem theme! Duke Nukem!

Plebeian,

PJ Harvey would be a great nominee and I think she's in that Sinead, Bjork, Tori Amos group that's being considered now that Kate Bush has been inducted. Definitely has the critical acclaim and influence, just wonder if the voting body is hip enough to get her inducted.

If and when Oasis get in that could open the door for the Jam, which seems a bit backward, but Oasis was a far bigger success in the U.S. than the Jam ever was. If the Hall was based in the U.K. the Jam would have been in first ballot. We'll see what happens with them. Maybe E.I.?

Megadeth was massive at the time, but given metal's challenges with the Hall I don't know if they'll ever make the cut. Wouldn't mind it if they got in though.

Always crank it to 11!

11. Django Reinhardt

*=Deceased

Origin: Liberchies, Belgium

Essential Songs:
1. Minor Swing (1937)
2. Nuages (1940)
3. I'll See You In My Dreams (1946)
4. Django's Tiger (1946)
5. Brazil (1947)

Influence:
Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong

The Legacy:
Les Paul, Bob Wills, Willie Nelson

There are many guitar players that are absolute legends of the rock genre. Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and many others that cemented themselves as masters of the instrument. Those folk wouldn't have gotten their start if it weren't for people like Django Reinhardt. A popular guitar player of his time, Django innovated with guitar playing. Fast, slow, sloppy; You name it! He was truly ahead of his time. If Robert Johnson was the father that brought Rock in the U.S. Then Django Reinhardt was the one who brought around Europe. He's a perfect candidate for the early influence category and the Hall will gladly induct him when the time is right.

12. Weird Al Yankovic

Origin: Downey, California

Essential Albums:
1. In 3-D (1984)
2. Dare to Be Stupid (1985)
3. Even Worse (1988)
4. UHF (1989)
5. Off the Deep End (1992)

Essential Songs:
1. Eat It (1984)
2. Like a Surgeon (1985)
3. Dare to Be Stupid (1985)
4. Smells Like Nirvana (1992)
5. Amish Paradise (1996)

Influence:
Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, DEVO

The Legacy:
Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies, The Lonely Island

Outlandish and hilarious, Weird Al Yankovic has spread laughter for more than 5 decades! An innovator of parody, he made even the most serious songs into full fledge comedy. Eat It, Amish Paradise, Polka Face, White and Dirty, Canadian Idiot, and so much more. However, Weird Al not only spans on music parodies but also cartoon appearances usual as himself or someone else. His appearances in cartoons has made him a generational icon that even kids are aware of the accordion jester. Johnny Bravo, Adventure Time, Captain Underpants, Billy and Mandy, and even debuting his hit song Dare to be Stupid on The Transformers: The Movie soundtrack! Weird Al is a busy guy, but he never fails to give his best 100% of the time. A Polka Hero even if there is one. A Hall induction would be the entertainment and eyes the Rock Hall could want. Imagine Weird Al making a song on the spot during his performance. That's how talented Weird Al is.

Thank You and All of You have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!

Great list Plebeian!

Have you kept track over the years which of your acts, which I'm sure there are a couple or more, have been inducted since you began this venture?

Greg F,

Out of your current predictions for the 2025 nominees, Which ones do you see being inducted (If 8 inductees again)?.

Richie, I'm not going to make inductee predictions based on my predictions. I don't feel like doing that anymore. If you ask me again I will ignore you.

If Weird Al were inducted he would probably make an " (Year) Induction Ceremony Polka" that's a Polka medley of various songs by other inductees.

I'm importing my predictions from the other forum...I'll make changes soon if I feel there are any:
1. Smashing Pumpkins - I've got a feeling, since they've never even been nominated before, that they might try something. If only they could mend fences with D'arcy.

2. Mariah Carey - Mary J. Blige has gone in. Mariah predates and encompasses her success and is hip hop adjacent

3. Sade - I think they'll be back. They are unique and acclaimed enough to get in

4. Bad Company - The RRHOF told us last year they weren't done with classic rock from the 70s. Paul Rodgers still hasn't gone in, and this is his most sustained success

5. Outkast - Far and away the most deserving rap act not yet in. Someone mentioned Stankonia turning 25, but they have an extensive arsenal of wide ranging stuff. Dirty South hasn't gotten represented yet

6. Oasis - Another band ramping up for a tour, so perfect timing as the brothers seem to be getting along

7. Cyndi Lauper - One of the two biggest 80s acts still on the outside looking in, her influence and following mystifies why she has been snubbed

8. Joy Division/New Order - New wave has almost got all the major players in, these guys are the other glaring 80s omission that have suffered the same fate as Cyndi

9. Alice in Chains - Never been nominated, and with Soundgarden getting the bridesmaid treatment year after year, I wonder if they get a shot this time around

10. Salt n Pepa - I'm gonna swing around this year to Salt, Pepa and Spinderella as the hip hop female contingent. TLC or En Vogue could easily also be here

11. Warren Zevon - I get the feeling there's gonna be a 70s singer/songwriter in this mix

12. White Stripes - Coldplay could be here as well

13. Pantera - And now for something COMPLETELY different. Metal doesn't translate well traditionally, could they go after the ultimate rebellious band who supplanted Metallica for underground after the Black album was released?

14. Bryan Adams - I have a hunch. Phil Collins could be here too.

15. The Commodores - should've gone in before Lionel solo

16. Lenny Kravitz - I hope he's not one and done, but I don't think he is.

I'm on the fence about a couple of my perennial noms, like Tori Amos in the wake of 90s influential women rockers getting in, and Iron Maiden or Snoop...but this list feels right to me.

And put the Monkees in while Micky is still alive, dammit!

I don't understand how come Joe Cocker is not there.

Posted by Denis on Wednesday, 12/25/2024 @ 12:02pm

The Rock Hall seems to have some vendetta with Bad Company

They have been considered at least a several times along Free but they have been rejected by the nomination committee

And apparently Foreigner had not been considered until well 2024

I still to my guns that we will see a Paul Rodgers AME induction instead

Boston,Styx,Jethro Tull,King Crimson or Meat Loaf will likely be the nominee given that Rick Krim was to go down that AOR or Progressive Rock route

Posted by Alec T on Wednesday, 12/25/2024 @ 19:07pm

My Predictions:

Nominees:
* Beck
* Mariah Carey
* Phil Collins
* Emerson Lake And Palmer
* Eric B & Rakhim
* Gloria Estefan
* Billy Idol
* INXS
* Cyndi Lauper
* Iron Maiden
* Alanis Morrisette
* The Pointer Sisters
* Queen Latifah
* Snoop Dogg
* Soundgarden

Seven most likely inductees from this list: Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Snoop Dogg, Beck, Pointer Sisters

ELP is an interesting choice

Why them over say King Crimson or Jethro Tull?

Posted by Alec T on Thursday, 12/26/2024 @ 13:10pm

If you ask me, King Crimson & Jethro Tull should've both been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame -- YEARS ago.

As for Emerson, Lake & Palmer...I've gotta get back to you on that one.

Posted by Johnny on Thursday, 12/26/2024 @ 19:50pm

As far as my choice of ELP goes:
The addition of Peter Shapiro to the nominating committee last year is interesting to me, and I think could help more of *my* style of music to get a look. Shapiro has been a major concert promoter in the jamband realm. His presence on the committee, to me, means that Phish is very likely to at least get mentioned in the nominating room in the future. But Shapiro is also aware of the influence of 70s Prog into the modern jamband sound, and seems like he would likely reach back to fill in some of those holes.

As far as the choice of ELP over King Crimson or Jethro Tull; it was just that ELP and TULL have some actual hits in their resumes, while Crimson is more of a cult band. And between ELP and Tull, I just felt in my gut that Shapiro might go for ELP.

I could also see Shapiro on the nominating committee leading to a long overdue nomination for Little Feat, I could see him advocate for Steve Winwood solo induction, and I could see him support Los Lobos and The Meters both getting another chance. He seems likely to be somebody that would nominate a band like Black Crowes or Blues Traveller for induction. I could also see him put up Primus or Bruce Hornsby for consideration.

That said I feel like the most likely classic rock pick for 2025 is like Foreigner an act that combined AOR and Progressive Rock I expect Boston or Styx to get the nod

Posted by Alec T on Saturday, 12/28/2024 @ 13:43pm

I personally think that the band drama that continues in Styx between Dennis DeYoung and the rest of the band would make the nominating committee wary of them.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Boston on the list, but my gut just doesn't feel like it's going to happen.

Posted by Shrek on Saturday, 12/28/2024 @ 19:03pm

My predictions, most have already been mentioned but a few are my hopefuls.

Bryan Adams
Bad Company
Boston
Mariah Carey
Coldplay
Phil Collins
The Guess Who
Billy Idol
Iron Maiden
The Jam
Joy Division/New Order
Cyndi Lauper
Alanis Morissette
Oasis
Outkast
Diana Ross
Soundgarden
War
The White Stripes
Warren Zevon

Posted by Sam M on Sunday, 12/29/2024 @ 12:19pm

Rewarding the Styx drama I'm becoming more and more curious if they'll be including Gowan with the band. Heard a pitch for it and it actually makes sense.

Side bar: anyone else thinking, after the election and all the disney stuff, that there will be a clear nod to the right? Like a nomination for Meat Loaf or something

What are your predictions for Rock Hall inductees in the next 10 years (2025-2034) (If 8 inductees each year)?.

Posted by richie on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 09:47am

Mat R

I had Meat Loaf as a possibility and given he was I believe friends with Dave Grohl I could very well see him get the Frampton spot I have Warren Zevon projected to in 2025 while Boston or Styx gets the Foreigner spot

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 09:58am

But Disney only broadcasts the ceremonies they do not control the nomination committee

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 10:54am

Alec t

Re Disney: I know but I do think they're involvement influences a lot of hall actions (eg. Where the nominations were announced, American Idol, ect.). It's not out of the realm of possibilities that John Sykes talks with Disney peeps about what Disney would like.

Posted by Mat r on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 15:32pm

The thing about Meat Loaf is that if you induct him, you should also induct Jim Steinman in a side category. Steinman wrote Meat Loaf's biggest songs.

Posted by xwing1212 on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 17:19pm

Without Steinman, there wouldn't be Meat Loaf.

My 2025 Predicted Ballot:

Coldplay
The White Stripes
Fiona Apple
Daft Punk
Weezer
Beck
Bjork
OutKast
No Doubt
Mariah Carey
De La Soul
Pixies
Cyndi Lauper
Billy Idol
Iron Maiden
Bad Company
Diana Ross
Donny Hathaway

Eight Performer Inductees would be: Bad Company, Billy Idol, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, OutKast

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:20pm

There would also be a ninth inductee from that ballot. Iron Maiden sidedoored via Musical Excellence.

I'm also very aware of the eight I figure would be Performer inductees are the eight most populist names on this hypothetical ballot. Perhaps an argument could be made that Daft Punk around the time of Random Access Memories were on the level of Billy Idol or Cyndi Lauper commercially.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:23pm

Also continuing to induct more classic rock bands all because of any reunion chances not happening only cheapens the honor. We already seen cases with Dire Straits a few years ago & Foreigner this year. Heck continue to go back with the 70's as a whole is pretty ridiculous.

It would be pretty epic if artists since 1980s would take over the whole ballot. I mean most are out there still performing at large stadiums, arenas & major festivals.

The reason is almost all artists from earlier decades are no longer around while others aren't getting any younger, why not just completely move on & induct the ones from that time period through the side categories. It could work as it happened with Kraftwerk, MC5, Dionne Warwick, Jimmy Buffett, Gil Scott Heron etc.

Posted by JE on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:27pm

Then again, we already seen the creme of the crop from those times honored. So very likely the contemporaries of The Beatles, James Brown, Bob Dylan, The Stones, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, The Who, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Elton John, Black Sabbath, David Bowie & The Velvet Underground wouldn't have any appearances on the list moving forward.

Posted by JE on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:33pm

I might as well repost this. I made a rubric for who I can conceivably see be voted in among eligible artists that were also inductees here in Rock Hall Revisited/Projected. It's really just around 40 names with a one-star extension that gets us into the 50s count via some choices that I guess are conceivable.

Artists are ranked from one-to-five stars based on the chances I'd give them when on a ballot. The "tiebreaker" number after is a rough ballpark guess, scored 1-5, of their actual importance.

JE, I agree with just inducting everyone prior to the 80s via the side categories. At this point, the ballot has mostly moved on in that direction, anyway.

I've always been a proponent of a 25 year eligibility window, so once it's been 51 years since your first record, you should be ineligible for the general ballot. If such a rule were in place, we'd now have nobody on the ballot who debuted prior to 1985.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:37pm

I may have erred in adding Donny Hathaway to the above list just now. It will at least show where I rank him but he is NOT a RHR/RHP inductee.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:39pm

I'd probably move Harry Nilsson down to three stars, looking back over the above list I made. Had he been on the ballot 15-25 years ago, it would have been an easy induction. But he's sort of less remembered as each year goes by.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:41pm

I'll be adding Jim Croce to my above rubric. Probably ** (2) seems fitting.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:08pm

Casper and JE

That's why I say it's more likely that Paul Rodgers gets AME than Bad Company or Free getting in

Then you can have someone like Slash or come out and sing "Feel Like Making Love" and "All Right Now" with Paul at his induction ceremony

Posted by Alrc on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:32pm

Also you induct Boston and at their induction ceremony you have people come out to preform with Tom Scholz and have a different singers come out to preform some of Boston's greatest hits

That is something that is doable rather than trying to induct an act and try to get them to do a reunion

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:37pm

Also this time around with the reunion tour and everything I am sure there is a good chance if Oasis is inducted they will come out and perform

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:46pm

I feel Oasis will be inducted next year

Yes, they have a ton of enemies, but their huge reunion tour will make all industry voters vote for them as the tour will make a ton of money for music industry, this will be enough to push Oasis in

Also, Kate Bush was inducted immediately after her popularity resurgence, do not think this is coincidence. So yes I think Oasis is lock for induction in 2025.

It's embarrassing Iron Maiden has not been inducted. They continue to march along in their late 60's. Still at the top of their game in outstanding concerts. Many groups by that time have splintered or are no longer active. I believe Iron Maiden will be inducted this cycle. Surprised Mariah Carey was not inducted last year. I also believe she will be inducted this cycle. People on here have made good points on the upcoming Oasis tour. It should be a monster for the music industry. Ticket sales, Oasis T-shirts and memorabilia etc. I'm wondering if Steve Winwood will receive a solo induction. He's an amazing musician and still playing at a high level into his late 70's. My guess Diana Ross & Phil Collins will be the 2x Inductees. Phil Collins similar to Lionel Richie. He was everywhere in the 1980's. He's had recent health problems. Deserves the award now.
2024-2025 Induction Cycle.
1. Iron Maiden
2. Mariah Carey
3. Oasis
4. Steve Winwood (Ballot or Special Award)
5. Diana Ross
6. Phil Collins
7. Rap Artist I'll go with Salt N Pepa

I refuse to believe the Rock Hall would sidedoor induct Iron Maiden. This is a band that still sells out stadiums. They're just going to have to ride it out. Even if it takes 8 nominations like Black Sabbath.

Hey Guys,

John Sykes has revealed that his close friend Sheryl Crow will be joining the nominating committee this year. So with the addition of Sheryl on the nominating committee, What are your revised predictions for the 2025 nominees?.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:26pm

Of course Sheryl Crow will be joining the nominating committee! Expect more bland and boring nominations moving forward.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:37pm

If anything, inducting Iron Maiden via Musical Excellence is the canary in the coal mine for heavy metal in the Rock Hall moving forward. No other heavy metal band can get inducted if both Judas Priest and Iron Maiden have to be backdoored. Ozzy is a different case since he's a figure that transcends the genre.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:41pm

But before I go into a rant, Richie you should provide a source on the Sheryl Crow thing.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:44pm

Jimmy Buffett does not have the critical acclaim that maiden has

Posted by lei on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:45pm

Sheryl joining is just so boring. We're sure to get awesome milquetoast nominations with that one. Is Lionel Richie going to join next?

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:51pm

Xwing1212,

Sheryl said in a interview that she wants Melissa Etheridge and Boston to get in, as well as Lenny Kravitz and Sinead O'Connor, who were both nominated last year but missed out on induction.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:54pm

Lenny Kravitz is a Musical Excellence caliber artist. Why is he even being considered to be inducted as a performer? Let me guess, it's because of his connections in the music industry.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:57pm

Like I would love to be a fly on the wall at the nominating committee to see them try to justify why Lenny Kravitz or even why Peter Frampton or Lionel Richie deserved to be inducted.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:00pm

I have read the interview of John Sykes.

Firstly, The B52s, Phil Collins and Pixies have been discussed in nom com many times. Good chance they will eventually be included.

Than, disney does not care the amount of inductees, which is a really good thing. I mean inducting more is better. So expect similar amount of inductees in next year (16)

Posted by power on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:01pm

I'm not sure Oasis' reunion tour is enough reasoning get them inducted. If we're talking live music success, Coldplay broke the record for most attended run tour all time last month and they will be filling double the stadiums in America next year.

Posted by Blair on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:06pm

Coldplay was going to be on the 2024 ballot but they were pulled off the last minute

But popularity resurgence and reunion is more interesting for rock hall.

Rage has a big tour and then are inducted in 23.

Rock hall loves that kind of thing. If rock hall does not have catch the change in relevance, rock hall will be embrassing.

So yes huge change is also important.

Also, I think Coldplay and Oasis could be nominated and inducted at the same time

Posted by Richieleitern on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:16pm

Come to think of it, it's very possible both Coldplay & Oasis would be inducted in 2025. I mean two or more acts in their similar genres were honored around the same time before. Here's what I'm talking about.

2015: Paul Butterfield & Stevie Ray Vaughan

2016: Chicago & Steve Miller

2017: ELO & Yes

2018: The Cars & Dire Straits

2020: Depeche Mode & Nine Inch Nails

2021: Jay Z & LL Cool J (Musical Excellence)

2022: Duran Duran & Eurythmics

2023: N/A

2024: Foreigner & Peter Frampton

It can be a case for next year.

Hey Guys,

Nominating committee member Alan Light said on his podcast today that Bad Company is the most likely act to get nominated/inducted between them, Styx and Boston. but the complications of how to nominate Paul Rodgers/Free/Bad Company has been a sticking point.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 17:49pm

Boston and Styx will likely now both be inducted in the near future

The Rock Hall seems like they are on an apology tour

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:00pm

Alec T,

but Alan Light has said that Bad Company is more likely to get nominated/inducted than Styx and Boston.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:07pm

Do not think there are many things deserved to be discussed.

Just want to wait until the announcement

Posted by Yy on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:16pm

"But the complications of how to nominate Paul Rodgers/Free/Bad Company has been a sticking point."

That's the problem

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:40pm

And then what about Thin Lizzy,Jethro Tull,King Crimson or even Steppenwolf or J Giles Band?

I'm sure those have been brought out heavily too

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:45pm

Alec T,

I think that Jethro Tull and Thin Lizzy are the most likely of the acts that you mentioned (The J. Geils Band, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Steppenwolf and Thin Lizzy). Jethro Tull has been previously considered and Thin Lizzy has been previously nominated along with Steppenwolf and The J. Geils Band.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 20:55pm

But are Tull and Lizzy more likely to be nominated than those 3?

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 21:07pm

Alec T,

I think that Jethro Tull and Thin Lizzy are also more likely to be nominated than Boston and Styx, but not Bad Company, I think those 3 (Bad Company, Jethro Tull and Thin Lizzy) are more likely to be nominated than Boston and Styx.

I'm predicting Boston but I wouldn't be surprised if Thin Lizzy instead gets the nod

Grohl and I believe Morello are huge fans and in 2023 we saw 2 POC rockers in Rage Against The Machine and Link Wray get in and in 2024 we saw Lenny Kravitz get nominated so may that's why try them again

FRL Fans & Music Fans. Have an outstanding and healthy New Year 2025. Very excited like many of you posters here. Who the new slate of 15-20 Nominees will be for 2025. Great to hear from Enigmaticus on the forum. He's 1 of the most knowledgeable poster here on Progressive Rock. I've been thinking of 10 deserving music artists that could be nominated and inducted. Here's a Quick 10.
1. Peter, Paul & Mary - Musical Excellence
2. Rick Springfield - Great Longevity. Jesse's Girl an iconic song.
3. Patti LaBelle - (If Diana Ross Is Not Selected).
4. Blue Oyster Cult- (Amazing amount of Influence on later Rock bands. Intelligent lyrics. Great music and longevity.) Don't Fear The Reaper & Burning For You iconic Songs.
5. The Guess Who - Seems like they are gathering more momentum each year. Could be on ballot or Special Award.
6. Scorpions - They are starting their 60th year as a band. Nice round number. Sold millions of records. A global band many fans around the world. Rock You Like A Hurricane iconic song.
7. Ben E. King - He was nominated a few times over 30 years ago. Has been deceased around a decade now. Very loved and respected singer. Spanish Harlem & Stand By Me iconic songs.
8. X - I'm thinking X could be a surprise nomination this year or next year. Billy Idol could take this spot instead.
9. Steve Winwood - The great Steve Winwood inducted with Traffic 20 years ago but could resurface again as a nomination. Also, could be Musical Excellence Award.
10. Black Crowes - A respected band who exploded on the scene late 80's and early 90's. Hard To Handle, Jealous Again, She Talks To Angels incredible songs.

Actually, Sheryl in the nom comm is really a great thing. She is so well connected with Lilith Fair that she's going to push for the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Sarah McLachlan, Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, etc. for their nomination.

Updated my rubric for likelihood of Hall induction. I went back over our Snubbed Performers list and was more lenient on who I could see receiving a nomination in the near future. Pre-1970s still feels like a dead zone.

Artists are ranked from one-to-five stars based on the chances I'd give them when on a ballot. The "tiebreaker" number after is a rough ballpark guess, scored 1-5, of their actual importance.

Anyone with one or two stars would be a pretty unlikely inductee for the 2025 class BUT their odds will improve as the Hall continues to cull 6-8 names from the list that are currently above them.

Also, nothing is for certain regarding induction BUT the five star chances that I give Diana Ross and OutKast DOES indicate that they would 100% receive induction under any ballot permutation.

OutKast - ***** (5)

I'm thinking Pixies should probably be bumped up to three stars. They have far more critical acclaim and clear influence than basically any of that 80s indie scene's other options (Replacements, Devo, JD-NO, Jane's, etc). I feel they'd even have a better shot than Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Basically every critic will vote for them and plenty of other inducted rockers.

So, if the Pixies make the ballot, I think they're actual contenders.

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 16:22pm

Hey all,

I'll throw in a prediction -

The B-52's
Bad Company
Billy Idol
Bryan Adams
Coldplay
Cyndi Lauper
Diana Ross
Eric B & Rakim
Iron Maiden
Joy Division/New Order
Lauryn Hill
Ohio Players
Outkast
Pixies
Soundgarden
Tracy Chapman

Posted by RG on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 16:24pm

Also, I give Devo three stars because I feel their repeat ballot appearances in recent years indicates that they're actually doing somewhat well in the voting. They've likely had people ahead of them in their three lanes (indie/underground, 80s and classic rock) and there's only so many names that can block their induction for much longer.

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 16:25pm

Consensus Ballot According To FRL User Predictions:

Bad Company
Billy Idol
Coldplay
Cyndi Lauper
De La Soul
Diana Ross
Iron Maiden
Joy Division-New Order
Mariah Carey
Oasis
OutKast
Phil Collins
Soundgarden
War
White Stripes

These names all cleared double digits (10 or more votes) with the exception of War who had 9 (but a two vote lead over the next group with 7 each).

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 17:56pm

7 Votes: Alanis Morissette, Eric B. & Rakim, Lenny Kravitz, Luther Vandross

6 Votes: Lauryn Hill, Patti LaBelle, Sade, Smashing Pumpkins

5 Votes: B-52's, Bryan Adams, Pixies

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 17:59pm

That consensus ballot would have:

arguable 2 next biggest names waiting on Hip Hop (De La Soul and OutKast)
arguable 2 next biggest names for 80s superstars (Billy Idol and Cyndi Lauper)
3 big names from the 90s alternative wave (Oasis, Soundgarden and White Stripes)
3 classic rock adjacent options (Bad Company, Phil Collins and War)
2 super pop icons (Diana Ross and Mariah Carey)
next biggest metal name (Iron Maiden)
arguably the most important artist on the outside looking in (Joy Division-New Order)
1 stadium level rock/pop act (Coldplay)

It really would work out to be one of the biggest ballots imaginable as far as public name-recognition goes.

Hey Casper,
Is there enough to work with to make a side-category consensus by any chance?

Posted by Raichu on Tuesday, 01/7/2025 @ 16:08pm

Speaking of which

These are my as of now early 2025 side category predictions

Possible Musical Excellence picks

Paul Rodgers

DEVO

Carol Kaye

And if not inducted as Preformers then

Iron Maiden or Kris Kristofferson

Possible Early Influence picks

John Coltrane

Dick Dale

Ravi Shankar

Possible Ahmet Ertegun Award picks

Rick Rubin

Ed Sullivan

Richard Lester

Posted by Alec T on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 16:17pm

Raichu, that doesn't matter because predicting the side categories means you're predicting INDUCTEES. So we can tally those when people make their induction predictions. It has nothing to do with the upcoming ballot.

The side categories are also pretty random unless they're being used to give up on a fruitless candidacy (Chaka Khan, MC5, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Judas Priest). There's less of a method to it.

Posted by Casper on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 18:08pm

I tallied up the last few prediction ballots. Consensus is the same 15 names.

It takes 11 votes to make the group consensus. Eric B and Rakim trail with 9 (would be 16th name on the ballot) and Alanis Morissette and The B-52's have 8 (would be 17th/18th names on ballot).

16 or more nominees happened in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022. There's about a coin flip chance of that happening in 2025.

17 or more nominees happened in 2022 (17) and 2017 and 2018 (19). About a 1-in-3 shot for that happening.

Posted by Casper on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 18:26pm

If the consensus ballot were the actual ballot and they inducted 6, my choices would be Coldplay, Iron Maiden, Joy Division-New Order, Mariah Carey, OutKast, and White Stripes. Add War if they induct 7 and add De la Soul if they induct 8, with Phil Collins, Oasis and Soundgarden all close behind.

Posted by Brian on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 22:28pm

As much as I love Iron Maiden, I think that they will get the Judas Priest treatment and they'll get in on their third nomination via Musical Excellence just like Judas Priest did, rather than as Performers.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 23:20pm

I just feel Maiden will be 100% inducted in 2025.

If they are nominated, then they will be included as performer

If they are not nominated, they will be included as ME

Do not see rock hall misses the chance.

Hey Guys,

Official Rock Hall voter ballots are going digital. Eddie Trunk said on his SiriusXM Trunk Nation show today and he said:

As a voter, I got a note from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yesterday, and they said... the voting is going to be online... ...like everything it's going paperless, it's going digital for the first time. So they sent an e-mail to all the voters yesterday, just confirming the e-mail address 'cause they said that's how we're going to be getting the ballot now going forward."

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Friday, 01/10/2025 @ 16:25pm

Ritchie,

I think this is extremely smart and solves many problems that were previously had by sticking to the mail system. Long overdue change to the voting process

I know that you guys will not agree with me on this, but If Mariah Carey takes a year off from the ballot this year, I could see them nominating Celine Dion instead.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Saturday, 01/11/2025 @ 21:22pm

Who's more likely to get a tribute this year, Quincy Jones or Sam and Dave?

Posted by Raichu on Sunday, 01/12/2025 @ 15:35pm

Raichu:

I think it's both. Quincy will get a tribute at the tail end of the In Memoriam. While there will be a Sam & Dave tribute either as the opener or the All Star Jam finale.

Mat R and Power,

What are your updated predictions for the 2025 nominees/inductees (If 8 inductees again)?.

Posted by richie on Wednesday, 01/15/2025 @ 23:45pm

It would be cool to treat the Rock and Roll HOF like Burning Man. Let it have an expiry date of 2055. That's one hundred years of rock and roll. That's enough time to please the fans of Flock of Seagulls as well as the fans of Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band as well as those for Lowell Fulsom.

JE, Interesting list. What is the criteria? Influence, accomplishments, credibility? For example, Kiss is more "influential" than McCartney (in his post-Beatle mode) but Mac is clearly more accomplished and capable. Anyway, my top ten in terms of influence
1 -- Elvis. If Bill Haley or Chuck Berry or Pat Boone had taken hold, things would be very different
2 -- Dylan. Arguably the only one who really changed the direction of the genre
3 -- Led Zep. Probably the most imitated of all
4 -- Beatles. Everyone imitated them, but others (Holly, Brian Wilson, etc.) Were doing a lot of the same things
5 -- Stones. Defined what a rock band should be
6 -- James Brown. Defined funk, sampled beyond belief.
7 -- Chuck Berry. Gets credit for his riffs, which were derived from Johnnie Johnson and T-Bone Walker, but he wrote songs about cars, dancing and teenage girls, which was the de facto standard for the next 50 years and beyond
8 -- Madonna. Not the first woman to take control, but the first to do so with enormous success and smash a lot of barriers in the process.
9 -- Prince. Maybe the last rock inflection point.
10 -- Berry Gordy and Phil Spector (tie). Completely changed the way music was created and managed. The end-to-end artistic control that is taken for granted today starts with these guys, even that was not their intent at the time. They created a focus on quality for a product that had been considered trivially ephemeral before them.

My 2025 Nominee Picks in ABC order

Mariah Carey
Coldplay
Billy Idol
The Jam
Cyndi Lauper
Huey Lewis & the News
Kenny Loggins
Motorhead
Oasis
Outkast
Queen Latifah
Ray Parker Jr.
Snoop Dogg
Soundgarden
Warren Zevon

Feel free to ask any questions about my picks, but PLEASE don't ask me to pick who I think which 7/8 acts would make the ballot from my list. After all, my list is not real; who cares anyway.

I haven't done a write-up for the first time in years. But I'll make a few notes:

-There are 9 never-before-nominated acts, and 6 previously nominated. 15 altogether.

-I will not rule out Jim Messina with Loggins. Speaking of which, I have not seen the recent yacht rock doc on HBO but I'm assuming it gave Loggins a lot of attention. Hopefully enough to finally get nominated.

-Now that Kool & the Gang are finally in, who would they open doors for now? I was thinking maybe Rick James, the Gap Band (Charlie Wilson recently had a star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame), Luther? Decided to go with the low-key Ray Parker Jr. He's also, I guess what you would say, my main left-field pick...

-...or maybe that would go to The Jam. Last year I placed Slade as my random left-field pick. We've seen the JBs, Los Lobos and Bad Brains as well as a few other questionable acts appear on the ballot over the years. So this time around, I'll just go with another British act that had very limited success in the States. Or maybe I just should have put the Smiths back on (sigh)....

-Would love to see more 90s alternative rock acts get in. But where to start, really? I'm still amazed that neither Smashing Pumpkins or Weezer have yet to be nominated. Then again I could say the same for other acts. But look out in the next few years....

-I tried to make my ballot as diverse as possible, and I know some of you will laugh when you see only 3 female acts. Truth is, it's tough to narrow down who will be in next. I feel like if I put Diana Ross on there again, she won't get nominated. And vice versa. Sometimes it works that way. But then you have Cyndi Lauper, who is capping off her farewell tour. Wouldn't it be a no-brainer for her to perform later this year? Or Mariah, just in time for the holidays next year?

Thank you for that writeup, Jason. Hope all well with you! I'm going back to Bonnaroo this year. 1st time since 2019. Taking my nephew. Will be his 1st. Think the lineup is really strong this year.

FRL, let's hear 'em! Or in this case, see them! lol Can't wait.

Paul, what's up?! Great to hear from you. I'd love to go to Bonnaroo as well this year but if I do - I would probably get a one-day pass. Unfortunately I don't care much about the headliners but as you said the undercard lineup looks greater than ever. Biggest shock is seeing ICP on there (will this turn into the Gathering of the Juggalos?!)! I'll keep ya posted. Great to know you'll be back on the farm!

Looks like John Sykes is carving out a similar induction path for Mariah Carey the same way he did for Cher last year?

This year, we should have a proper predictions game for the inductees once the nominations are announced.

My proposed scoring system:

- List your six performer inductees (one point for each that is correct)
- List your Seventh inductee (one point if your first six were all inducted as Performers, half point if one or more of them were not)
- List your Eighth Performer inductee (one point if your first seven were all inducted as performers, half point if your first six were but not the seventh, quarter point if one or more of your first six were not inducted)
- Wild Card Wager - One point for every name from the ballot that you think gets side-doored, minus one point for every name that does not

This would make for a far more accurate scoring system than people just listing 7 or 8 names and getting 5 or 6 correct.

Why are you talking about inductees when this is a nominees forum?

Posted by Cardgage on Wednesday, 01/22/2025 @ 20:04pm

Greg F,

Not Rock Hall-related, but are you booksnotwooks from Bluesky?. This is Richie from Bluesky as well.

Posted by richie on Wednesday, 01/22/2025 @ 21:17pm

At this point, I'd say:

Diana Ross
The Pixies
Warren Zevon
Phil Collins
The White Stripes
Salt N Pepa
OutKast
Oasis
Coldplay
Cyndi Lauper
Alanis Morrisette
War
Iron Maiden

I originally had Gloria Estefan and Jethro Tull for the last two spots, but I'm going to switch to Mariah Carey and Billy Idol.

Richie no it's not me. I'm not on bluesky. Why do you ask?

Posted by Greg F on Thursday, 01/23/2025 @ 11:13am

Will M,

None of the Texas Playboys are living. My list was a list of bands whose members are all dead. The asterisk next to them indicates that they were inducted in a side category rather than as performers.

When the nominees will be announced

I thought last year was originally planned to announce in mid or late Feb but was leaked earlier in 2/10

So what will be the time this year?

Do not want to talk anymore until the announcement.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Friday, 01/24/2025 @ 12:23pm

The Rock Hall is sorta in a rock (no pun intended haha) and a hard place unfortunately between wanting to appeal to the crowd who want to see more women and minority acts inducted and appealing to the crowd thinks there's not enough Rock acts being inducted

Posted by Alec T on Friday, 01/24/2025 @ 12:51pm

Alec,

they could so easily do both if they just nominated and inducted acts like B52s, Thin Lizzy, Runaways, Bad Brains, Living Color, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and more.

Posted by will m on Friday, 01/24/2025 @ 19:15pm

K-Dawg's not quite final RRHOF nomination predictions 2025:

1. Mariah Carey - She's gonna get a look. And it's past time.
2. Bad Company - See all my previous predictions. Paul Rodgers and Mick Ralphs belong.
3. Oasis - They've mended fences and are primed for a nom
4. Outkast - Dirrrty South and they're arguably the best eligible rap duo not in yet.
5. Alice in Chains - I think Soundgarden gets a year off, and AIC has never been given a nom yet.
6. Cyndi Lauper - The unique one returns and hopefully begins to cross off the most deserving 80s acts.
7. B-52s - Political winds are blowing, and the Hall may want to make a statement.
8. Coldplay - I think they get the love this year. Don't know if it translates into induction tho
9. TLC - Female hip hop groups have yet to get a look
10. Joy Division/New Order - Last major new wave group still needing to get in
11. Warren Zevon - He's gonna get the boomers excited and the rock purists
12. Boston - Call it a hunch, I think the HOF might try to inject some more rock to appease the knuckleheads who don't understand the concept of Rock AND ROLL
13. Luther Vandross - Kind of a wildcard here.
14. Tori Amos - Yes, I put her back on. If you're gonna put Sheryl Crow in and nominate Sinead O'Connor, give a real accomplished songstress a good look
15. Pantera - I just got a feeling. They need to jumpstart the metal acts.
16. Motley Crue - Anything can happen at this point
17. The White Stripes - I have a feeling another 90s act will be nominated.

I'm leaving the Pumpkins out this time, and I'm thinking rap only gets one act (not counting Left Eye). I have a gnawing feeling there might be another singer/songwriter or critically acclaimed female included, but I've drawn a blank right now as to who it might be. We shall see what happens

Posted by K-Dawg on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 02:12am

I think Cyndi Lauper also complained last year when she failed, so do not think mariah carey's complain will definitely lead to nomination in this year

Posted by M will on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 06:23am

I feel Jane's Addiction will be nominated one more time at most. Expect them to be inducted in ME in the next five years (2030 at latest)

Posted by M will on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 06:25am

Oasis are going to be on tour in Australia and Asia this fall. Unlikely the Rock Hall will nominate them if they can't attend the ceremony (like Coldplay last year).

Posted by FRL on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 10:10am

K-Dawg

I can't seem them nominated both Bad Company and Boston at the same time

Could cause some vote splitting

Also Pantera might have to wait for Iron Maiden to get in as Grohl and Morello REALLY are pushing them to get in

Then again Motorhead might be next after Maiden

Cardgage,

Some of your predictions are a crapshoot. I mean come on, you literally suggested mediocrity in the Hall.

Herman's Hermits? Counting Crows? Hootie & The Blowfish? Are you seriously ridiculous or are you just freaking us around.

What's the point of letting in Steve Miller Band & Big Brother as their leaders were ALREADY INDUCTED on their own.

Them? You mean the band that featured Van Morrison? If so, then again what's the freaking point.

Posted by JE on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 16:46pm

Steve Miller Band- to have the whole act
Herman's Hermits- a part of the British Invasion
Big Brother and the Holding Company- Joplin's backing group in the 60s
Counting Crows- album rock revivalist
Hootie and the Blowfish- greatly successful album rock revivalist. Even their debut album went diamond

First thing is that I don't like it when backing groups are neglected. Second, I don't like it when success is overlooked as a contributor to fame.

Posted by Cardgage on Saturday, 01/25/2025 @ 17:26pm

@Cardgage - it's not a rule that the Hall isn't able to nominate someone if they know the artist isn't coming to the ceremony, it's just a practical reality. They should just wait until there's a chance they can come (with them you never can be 100% sure).

FRL- I understand now. Thank you. Maybe someday the Hall will have better respect for backing groups and induct artists like Them, Big Brother, and the rest of the Steve Miler Band. For years now I've wanted something like they did in 2012, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

I emphasized the album rock revival because it was a significant part of 90s rock, bringing in sophisticated artists like Counting Crows and Lenny Kravitz as bands like Journey and Bon Jovi went out of fashion.

The fact that Iron Maiden, a band that can still sell out stadiums, would have to be given a side door induction via Musical Excellence just shows how dumb and ignorant the Rock Hall voters are of heavy metal.

At the end of the day, it's all about who you know and how you play the game. There's a reason why mediocre artists like Lionel Richie and Peter Frampton can get inducted via the performer category despite little to no critical acclaim or influence. The same thing is going to happen with Lenny Kravitz.

This reply is classic and is actually "deciding standard" of rock hall nomination and induction. I believe you have seen this before

Which is Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Queen Latifah, New Edition, Luther Vandross, Aaliyah, The Replacements, The Bangles, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Hootie & The Blowfish, Alanis Morissette, Echo & The Bunnymen and Devo?. Right?.

Alanis, JDNO, Devo, Maiden, Hootie, Bunneyman, Lizzy, Soundgarden no chance ship sailed as I have told you before

Richie, do you believe in me

It is expected to be announced in February. I'd expect around the 10th.

Who is the most snubbed artist in music not in the RRHOF? I'm gonna go with Mariah in this moment..

The most snubbed artist could be Phil Collins. Mariah isa good answer too.

Gotta go Replacements, one of my favorite bands ever

Posted by Will M on Tuesday, 01/28/2025 @ 10:02am

Joy Division/New Order.

Among the pioneers of post punk & new wave, JD/NO influenced countless modern generations of alternative & indie artists while constantly evolving throughout history regardless of how much popularity they had.

It's too bad they're on the outside looking in while others with borderline, marginal, WTF & forgotten cases had no problem being voted in. The ones including Journey, Bon Jovi, Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, Foreigner, DMB, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Dire Straits etc certainly didn't change music like Division/Order although that's not to say I'm against their inductions.

Though K-Dawg I haven't to say it's hard not to argue against Iron Maiden being the biggest Rock Hall snub

Joy Division/New Order is goth rock, not new wave. Examples of new wave would be Devo, Talking Heads, or Oingo Boingo.

Is the 2025 ballot really going to be The B-52's, Mariah Carey, Coldplay, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Patti LaBelle, Queen Latifah, Cyndi Lauper, Alanis Morissette, Motorhead, Oasis, OutKast, Sade and Luther Vandross?. If so, Which ones do you see being inducted?.

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 01/28/2025 @ 16:15pm

Cliff Richard and The Shadows might be the biggest music snub not in the RRHOF since they came before and were a huge influence on The Beatles and most British Rockers who came after them. Although not as widely well known in the US, Cliff Richard is still one of the biggest celebrities of all time in the UK on par with Paul McCartney.

Absolutely agree with JE

If Joy Division and New Order were nominated separately both would be near the top snubs but I think you would find a few greater snubs with strong cases. But both being nominated together there is absolutely no contest here. Way too much direct originating influence in multiple genres and with critical and commercial success to back it up, all while handicapped on independent labels.

Posted by GuestG on Tuesday, 01/28/2025 @ 22:03pm

also, its only right to have nominated them together, just like the small faces/faces, JD evolved into NO.

Mariah Carey this year she will be celebrate 35th Anniversary of her showbiz. She got a lot of 19th #1 hits and in earlier 2025 AIWFCIY remains thru 18 weeks on top. She is coming for 100 week this year. She deserves it and paved the way and open doors. She did R&B, Pop, Jazz Hip-Hop, Rock and Gospel, She is a songwriter, producer all her hits. She deserves to be nominate Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and will inducted this year. I will pray when another big names like late great Luther Vandross, New Edition, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Robert Flack, Outkast, Sade will be nominated.

Yeah, I think the Rock Hall's website won't be leading us to finding out the predictions sooner than we should anymore. Ok so, SNL is holding a 50th anniversary concert. Among the performers are 7 currently eligible artists: Backstreet Boys, Jack White (technicality, White Stripes), Robyn, B-52s, Roots, Devo, and Chris Martin (Coldplay)

If I had to guess nomination probability from this group:
100%: Coldplay
75%: White Stripes, B-52s
50%: Devo
25%: Roots
0%: Backstreet Boys, Robyn

I wonder if they'll bring back the singles category but make it more... ceremonial. It hasn't been around for a few years and Skykes showed interest in it. I remember Donnie was going to make his singles category post for songs from the 80's and 90's, but that never happened as far as I know.

Oasis and Sade do not have any chance

Posted by Cardgage on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 17:57pm

The discussion over Oasis' Australian tour dates conflicting with a possible ceremony is a very good point. Not a bad prediction at all to think they'll be excluded like Coldplay was last year late likely for this reason. I still think they will be nominated (unless FRL or someone got word they won't specifically) for these reasons:

1. The dates have been pushed earlier for the ceremony recent years - last year it was October 19th and their Australian tour date is October 21st. They got a month break between that and their last Japanese tour date, so it's not unreasonable they push it a week earlier still if that meant they could confirm Oasis could perform.

2. Oasis is very unlikely to perform anyway. Both of them have openly rejected the Hall before, Liam even last year, and that's unlikely to change with a reunion. In Coldplay's case they are very likely to perform and they probably told they hall last year it's conflicted with tour dates so won't. With Radiohead's tour date falling on the ceremony possibly making them missing out on FYI, several members had expressed interest in going, so it left open that some or all could be convinced to show up as several did. In this case both brothers came to the same agreement so the Hall likely won't hold them back for the dream shot of them performing on stage, which even if they did who knows if they'll still be active in 2026. Hall knows it's very unlikely in any case it happens.

3. They aren't a necessary addition for the Hall to meet viewership and attendance criteria, if Coldplay or Pink or Linkin Park are inducted this year and perform that would be huge and cover that Oasis isn't needed, and that's just the 2000s stuff. Oasis would even give them headlines if they trash it just before their big world tour, and if they performed it would be far bigger ratings, but it's like Kate Bush, they aren't dependent on it.

4. This is going to be their biggest relevancy year in their eligible era, best chance for induction (outside if they do next year), and if they do a tribute the biggest reaction would be this year. Next year might be out of date and seen as chasing trends.

I think their case is a different scenario from Coldplay's last year and won't be repeated. If they or their management said they'd perform but are conflicting with prior dates so can't they might be left out a year like Coldplay was, but with all we heard I don't think they'd intend to perform ever.

Posted by GuestG on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:23pm

I mean probably nom com already knew RATM would not appear at the ceremony except for Morello but RATM still nominated

Although I know this did this mainly for Morello who served for rock hall

But yes making appearance and making performance is not 100% related with nomination.

Still think radiohead failed first time not because of touring, just because lacking of baby boomer votes. I heared on twitter one writer said even in 2019 Radiohead probably finished #5, not good considering their influence and relavancy

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:34pm

Also, rock hall must know there was highly possibility that Kate Bush would not appear, but they had to nominate (and induct) Kate Bush because ignoring Kate after her popularity resurgence would make rock hall very ugly. They have to catch the popularity and fashion.

So yes this is the reason that I think Oasis will be nominated (and inducted) this year because if a band with biggest reunion tour, can sell out US arenas in seconds, not being included after the big news, it will show that rock hall can not recognize the real lasting popular power in music industry.

I could be wrong. We will see.

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:39pm

omar,

Out of your predictions for the 2025 nominees, I think the following acts would get inducted (If 9 inductees):

The B-52's, Boston, Coldplay, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Patti LaBelle, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis and Luther Vandross.

I think Eric B. & Rakim and/or Iron Maiden are more destined for Musical Excellence inductions, rather than Performer inductions.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:50pm

Guest

I think one month break is prepared to be reserved for rock hall.

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:50pm

richie

If ATCQ can get in as performer, EBAR can as well. They have similar commercial success and critical acclaim.

Also, think Maiden are way more connected in inductees circle than Judas Priest (maiden engaged in many activities of British rock circles but priest did not), also Maiden still arena tour act in US (Judas Priest can not fill out arena in US) may obtain more industry votes as they can earn more money.

But most importantly, evey acts nominated at three times, since 2023, are all finally inducted as performer, no exception. Do not think it is coincidence. So if they are on the ballot next time, they are probably in. If they are nominated, they are probably destined to ME. But I guess they will be nominated one more time.

Again, I could be wrong, but I will believe my judgement until final result comes.

Also do not ask inductees from my list, i dont know. Thank you

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 19:59pm

"If they are nominated, they are probably destined to ME."

Should be

If they are not nominated, they are probably destined to ME.

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 20:02pm

omar,

but I just have a really hard time seeing EBAR get in as Performers especially if LL Cool J had to get in via Musical Excellence. so I see EBAR doing the same.

Same with Iron Maiden, I just have a really hard time seeing them get in as Performers especially if Judas Priest had to get in via Musical Excellence. so I see Iron Maiden doing the same.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 20:11pm

Omar,

And interestingly each have different circumstances.

Obviously Morello is involved in the dang thing so he was going to represent, but it was obvious why the other Rage members weren't getting involved.

Bush's travel fright meant the only realistic way she'd ever perform is if the ceremony was in London. Which they might have eventually considered, but the Stranger Things hype and the boomer's cold feet towards prior nominations meant they had to rush the only chance for her to ever get inducted in performers. And it would have aged so badly if she was side categoried, so they just made a hail mary she'll travel to New York.

Radiohead if they didn't say they weren't showing might have made it first year. I've heard things they were going to make it otherwise, and either industry withheld votes since they weren't showing or the Hall themselves found a way not to induct. Regardless they made it next year even if boomers didn't want them.

Chris Martin inducted members and they've shouted it out, it's very clear they'll perform, so them being held back late is very reasonable if they just told them their tour would interfere.

And with Oasis, the difference is in all those cases the artist or a key member openly wants to be in the hall, where Oasis have both key members openly trash the hall and say they aren't showing up. That's a unique scenario but one I think leads to them not stalling for a very unlikely induction performance as I agree with you on.

Posted by GuestG on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 20:12pm

Bruce Dickinson called the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame "an utter and complete load of bollocks"

So highly unlikely they would preform

Posted by Alec T on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 20:34pm

The "must be able to attend" rule is total bullshit.

Posted by Cardgage on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 21:10pm

Mid Feb to Late April seemed to be the plan of rock hall in last year's period between announcement of nominees and inductees.

Do not expect Nominees announcement before feb 10. Last year originally planned definitely later than Feb 10 and was announced in Feb 10 only because of the leak. So I think it will be sometime around 2.15

Posted by omar on Saturday, 02/1/2025 @ 23:39pm

For anyone omitting Mariah Carey from predictions, in this interview from 2018 she says that THE John Sykes was her first manager (2:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk6I23ORDtY&t=166s

And a simple subsequent Google search of both names shows that they've remained chummy and have had professional collaborations in later years, including with the Save the Music Foundation, which John Sykes founded. Save the Music was notably the beneficiary of the VH1 (again Sykes founded) Divas Live concert, of which Mariah was a participant in its first, and probably best, iteration in 1998.

No matter what the legacy critical establishment feel about her, the Hall is shoehorning her in one way or another.

Posted by ChrisD on Sunday, 02/2/2025 @ 08:59am

but everyone predicted mariah would be inducted last year but she failed shockingly

Do not think inner circle people have that good will on her

Despite her popularity, she seems to be isolated from a ton of music industry and inner circle people

Do not think she will be lock in next nomination, remember Janet used three. Mariah Carey is more hated by Janet in white boomer rock voters.

I think she should and eventually will be in, but do not think she is "lock" in 2025

I feel rock hall values Mary J Blige way higher than Carey, earlier first nomination and earlier induction. Also, do not think she 100% finished #9 or #10 in 2024 (the voting ranking is secret), could be lower, but who knows?

Posted by omar on Sunday, 02/2/2025 @ 09:54am

Many people assume Lenny and Mariah finishes #9-#10, which is not reliable

All are just guessing

The voting result is kept as secret within rock hall

Maybe some of Sinead, EBAR, Oasis, Sade actually finished more close

Who knows

Posted by omar on Sunday, 02/2/2025 @ 09:58am

1.Its clear Posidon doesnt like Hard Rock haha

Morello,Grohl and even Questlove are big into Hard Rock and Metal so they will keep pushing for this acts

It's the voters that are holding them back

2.John Skyes is one person and he can only do so much to get someone nominated

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 16:44pm

Alec T

Last year we were lucky

It seems that rock hall pays more attention to this. They changed the website design to not reveal anything.

So I think we will not get nominees before announcement, but who knows.

Sometimes weird things may happen

All they appear to have done is removed one. It is now fifteen instead of sixteen.

Posted by Cardgage on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 16:56pm

I'm sure if there is a big name like Cher or Ozzy there would be 1 or even 2 leaks

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 17:03pm

Cardgage

A possible scenario could be this:

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is currently designing the voting website. To test the layout and appearance of the site, they are using placeholder text and images, which helps them visualize how everything will look without revealing the actual nominees.

Initially, they may have planned to include 16 nominees, but in the last few minutes, they could decide to reduce the number to 15 for some reasons, so the layout is updated

"They changed the website design to not reveal anything." has another meaning. Before the 2024 nominee leak, the website's style was completely different, and potential information could have been leaked through the website design. However, after the 2024 leak, the Rock Hall completely redesigned the website, eliminating any vulnerabilities. At least from what I know, the website design from 2020–2024 was entirely different from the design after 2024, with significantly improved security.

Posted by omar on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 17:04pm

I know all that and understand completely

Posted by Cardgage on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 17:39pm

Alec T,

Absolutely. Last year's leaks didn't come from the website, they came from a combination of pre-established news articles accidentally leaking information and in one case the artist letting it out early.

There might be no leaks at all, there won't be any from the website, but external forces very well could provide some nominees a day or two early. Given they have to know a day early to get news articles ready they can't avoid it, it's up to the publishers to not let it out at that point

Posted by GuestG on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 17:41pm

In Eric B and Rakim's case it was a Twitter account I believed close to them and they were preforming somewhere were they told the crowd that they were nominated

Strange

Maybe a Spanish act is nominated?

Posted by Mart on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 17:58pm

He didn't say it but I believe a day before the 2022 Rock Hall nominees were announced Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran teased that something big was going to happen tommorow

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 02/3/2025 @ 18:05pm

Well if there is a Spanish act then the possibilities are

Los Lobos

Gloria Estefan

Shakira

And throwing a massive curveball here but Jennifer Lopez

Posted by Alec T on Wednesday, 02/5/2025 @ 15:36pm

Predicting either the 12th or 19th

Last year's Super Bowl week was just an odd time where attention is on another media circus, so surprised they did it then and not surprised they aren't again. 12th would be my guess but in between post-Super Bowl and Valentine's Day/president's day weekend they might be waiting until the week after.

Diana Ross
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Marianne Faithfull
Kris Kristofferson

For musical excellence I hope that Carol Kaye and Nicky Hopkins finally get considered, two of the most outrageous snubs in Rock Hall history.

Charlie Parker, Son House and The Carter Family for musical influence (really, what takes the Rock Hall so long to induct the Carter Family, the foundation of nearly everything that followed?)

On January 31:

We do not have any exact date for that announcement.

On February 4:

At this time, we have not released that information yet.

On February 6:

The exact date of the announcement has not been announced publicly yet.

and Today:

The date for the nominees has not been released.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Saturday, 02/8/2025 @ 23:18pm

Dont think there will definitely have leaks before big announcement. If my memory serves me well, 2021, 2022, 2023 all do not have "leak" before announcement and 2020 Notorious Big, Depeche, T.Rex were provided in interview with John Sykes himself

So it is unlikely we will have "leak" before announcement

Yes, but we do not have energy and time to search for each member of potential bands candidates or artist to find some hints (just hints, not saying "I am nominated").

So even there may be some "hints", it may be ignored by us.

Alec T,

I think this locks NYD for an induction this year. It's unfortunate that happened and this is a way an artist gets through, but historically when they have an interest in an artist getting in and they are worried they might pass they expedite their induction. And the frontman being the last of the core and having Stage 4 is for sure one of those events.

If NYD was nominated anyway they might even get enough votes for the traditional route, they chose nominations already obviously so if they weren't they will be locked in for side-category (and if they get nominated but miss they might side-category them anyway due the time urgency here)

Posted by GuestG on Monday, 02/10/2025 @ 19:23pm

It's definitely coming tomorrow, some signs of that happening

Perhaps unrelated, but I've seen some major news publications in the last day have new articles that promote or bring up Bangles and Village People wanting into the Hall. Likely absolutely nothing, but might be interesting if timing a few days before nominations announcements has a reason

Posted by GuestG on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 06:11am

I can see the Village People getting nominated. Not offended by that at all! Their hits are timeless, regardless what people think lol

The Bangles getting a nod would be a dream come true too.

Posted by Timothy Pernell on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 11:07am

How do you really know that village people is a nominee without proof are you really sure about that

Posted by Joshua Hamilton on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 11:13am

If Cyndi Lauper is a near lock to be on the ballot then it's unlikely the Bangles will be nominated

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 12:03pm

The Village People? Are you serious? The Rock Hall would be scraping the bottom of the barrel if they had to resort to nominating acts like the Village People.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 14:33pm

As someone who's been pushing the Village People as a contender for the Rock Hall Projected project, I'd be tickled to see them get a nomination to the real Hall. That said, the main reason I can push for them to be in our fan project is because we've managed to induct a good number of major R&B, soul and funk acts over the years; that's something the Hall has not pulled off. As much as I'm a supporter of them getting inducted at some point, even I think there's more important acts to focus on before getting to them.

Posted by Ian on Tuesday, 02/11/2025 @ 14:41pm

A hint towards Coldplay's soon induction/nomination is that according to the Rock in Retrospect podcast there is a Coldplay special on Disney+ India now

Should note I did not imply that Village People or Bangles had a nomination at all, just that NYT/TMZ and some other news outlets have made articles talking about them not being in the hall that came out 1-2 days before nominations are announced.

Anyway they've done good keeping it the list in so far compared to last year, the only one that potentially "leaked" so far is Coldplay and even if it was they were the very obvious nominees this year regardless. This is the time things slip out though.

I can't wait until tomorrow's nominations. I'm rooting for the R&B legends to get nominated and finally nominate bring back Mariah Carey, New Edition, Patti LaBelle, Diane Ross, Luther Vandross, and nominate Rock star Lenny Kravitz, and Group Sade again.

According to WKYC Cleveland the announcement is expected very early in the morning. As in 6 am EST.

Hey GuestG,
What do you mean? I haven't seen anything about a Coldplay leak. Fingers crossed for them though.

Gus,

I did not see any on it either and don't think it was so it's in quotes, but some including here have been saying their nomination has been leaked. Regardless I think they are the very obvious nomination pick this year since they were confirmed on the ballot last year original and removed last minute due to the tour.

What are your final last-minute predictions for the 2025 nominees before they're announced tomorrow morning?.

This going extra to include Spanish in the announcements and vote for the first time is honestly pretty funny, it's a clear response to the talk and articles of of Anglo Hall of Fame and lack of Latin American representation. Regardless, they can do the talk up all they want, doesn't change there's zero individuals born in South America in the Hall.

At the same time, maybe they are doing it knowing there's going to be an act nominated this year. Probably Shakira if they did, but maybe they actually do the complete dark horse route and put Soda Stereo up to nomination (they wouldn't make it in ever with the voterbase however, it's going to be another Fela or Kraftwerk moment).

Still want to see Big Black for side category, would be the time to get one in.

GuestG,

I think that Gloria Estefan is going to get nominated because of the Spanish vote. Something tells me.
