Hey everyone, it's the reaper himself, Follower. Since the comments were locked after Quincy Jones died I couldn't add him to the list of living and dead inductees. Here he is now. The Class of 2013 now has 4 dead members. (That's also the number of living members of the class of 1999!)

Power,

I think that Coldplay will be like Radiohead and Oasis and they'll fail to get in on their first nomination, but they'll get in on their second nomination just like Radiohead did and Oasis will definitely. so I see Billy Idol and Patti LaBelle being more likely than Coldplay IMO.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Thursday, 12/5/2024 @ 17:08pm

Coldplay is far more popular and industry-friendly than Radiohead and Oasis. They will be touring the United States next summer too, which might give them some media spotlight (not sure if this has influence over anything though, I'm new to this Rock Hall guessing game).

Who will be the next Foreigner/Journey/Doobie Brothers type classic rock band to be nominated?

Ideas:
- Bad Company
- Boston
- Styx
- Supertramp

Posted by xwing1212 on Saturday, 12/7/2024 @ 19:05pm

Xwing1212,

I think that Bad Company and Boston are the only two logical choices here for the next Foreigner/Journey/The Doobie Brothers type classic rock bands to be nominated/inducted, As well as they should be.

What do you think?.

Hey guys!

It's me again!

It's that wonderful time of the year! This year is my fifth time doing this! You are going to see more of my 12 Days of Rock Hall Christmas!

Let's go!

Starting at number 1!

1. The Specials

Origin: Coventry, West Midlands, England

Deceased=*

Band Members: Terry Hall*, Lynval Golding, Horace Panter, Jerry Dammers, Roddy Radiation, Neville Staple, Dick Cuthell, Rico Rodriguez*, John Bradbury*

Essential Albums:
1. The Specials (1979)
2. More Specials (1980)

Essential Songs:
1. A Message to You Rudy (1979)
2. Gangsters (1979)
3. Monkey Man (1979)
4. Ghost Town (1980)
5. Rat Race (1980)

Influence:
Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals

The Legacy:
Blur, Sublime, Less Than Jake

Ska ain't exactly a genre people think highly of. Some see it as a niche genre and others see it as a fad from the 90s not knowing it's origins from the late 70s and before. However, there is no denying an amount of talent has risen from here. Smash Mouth, Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, Goldfinger, Big Reel Fish, and more have kept the genre from being left in the dust. It's all thanks to The Specials. The definitive Ska band they incorporated reggae with punk, sparking a new underground music revolution. Even adding some political messages for variety. Sure they ain't exactly on the radar, but also the Hall is not shy to recognize more underrated acts. Hopefully they get the message from Rudy… I mean The Specials.

Plebeian,

but you listed only seven performers for the 2025 class (Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Boston, The B-52's and War), There were 8 performer inductees last year for the 2024 class, so please add Diana Ross as an 8th inductee for the 2025 class. Thank You.

I know a lot of people want to see Bad Company get in and I don't object it to it trust me

But I still refer to the Tweet that Stevie Van Zandt has apparently failed to get Bad Company and Free nominated multiple times and the fact that his presence has been reduced to the side categories what the most likely outcome is going to be a Paul Rodgers Musical Excellence induction

At least that's how I see it

Hello again let's get on with the show. Here is number two!

2. Silver Apples

Origin: New York, NY

Deceased=*

Band Members: Simeon Cox*, Danny Taylor*

Essential Albums:
1. Silver Apples (1968)
2. Contact (1969)

Essential Songs:
1. Oscillations (1968)
2. Lovefingers (1968)
3. Program (1968)
4. Ruby (1969)
5. I Have Known Love (1969)

Influence:
Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, The Velvet Underground

The Legacy:
Suicide, Stereolab, Faust

With an unintentionally morbid (and hilarious) album cover and a sound so different you will be surprised that it was produced in the 60s, Silver Apples is a rare gem in a sea of 60s acts. A real precursor to electronic music Silver Apples rubbed shoulders with many acts of the 60s such as Jimi Hendrix, T.Rex, and MC5 that made them a great early opener for live performances. Silver Apples revolutionized in its sound of drum looping, filters, and of course oscillations. While the 60s are out of the question now in the main category I would not be surprised that a band who only really gained popularity from music nerds gets a chance for enshrinement for the Rock Hall.

I still dont know why Troy Smith is predicting a solo Robert Plant in 2025

I guess because of his country work?

I have to wonder how or if the Jay Z allegations are going to affect upcoming nominations in the coming years. Obviously he's already in

Posted by GuestG on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 21:00pm

I predict that Billy Idol will get the Pat Benatar/Duran Duran MTV artist slot. He was at the recent ceremony, so he's playing the game, plus he was an early staple of MTV, which would appeal to John Sykes. On top of that, he has a ton of songs people recognize (Mony Mony, White Wedding, Rebel Yell, Cradle of Love, etc.)

Posted by xwing1212 on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 23:18pm

In regards to the Jay Z allegations, I do believe certain artists are quietly blacklisted from nomination. Like Afrika Bambaataa will never get nominated again. Diddy will also never get nominated.

Posted by xwing1212@gmail.com on Sunday, 12/8/2024 @ 23:22pm

Xwing1212,

I agree with you on Billy Idol, I'd also add Cyndi Lauper to the list as well as she was previously nominated for the 2023 class.

What do you think?.

UNO, DOS, TRES!

3. Johnny Ace (1929-1954)*

*=Deceased

Origin: Memphis, Tennessee

Previously Nominated?: 1986 and 1987

Essential Songs:
1. My Song (1952)
2. Pledging My Love (1955)

Influence:
Nat King Cole, Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Willis

The Legacy:
Solomon Burke, Paul Simon, The Righteous Brothers

Tragedy or freak accident depending on who you ask, Johnny Ace was a flame that burned out too early. Having solo hits as quick as he entered his 20s Johnny Ace became one of the fastest rising young stars that would influence the early Rock of the 50s. Unfortunately, he never got to see it as he died from shooting himself accidentally with a gun. While many people would not care for such an obscure star, it's rather odd the Hall has nominated 2 times in the past. Specifically during the Hall's infancy where he could have been one of the earliest performer inductees. Maybe a pledge to reopen past nominees from years beyond can give him a chance as an early influence?

Coming Up!

Do You Know What I Mean?

Posted by Plebeian on Monday, 12/9/2024 @ 00:21am

Do not think Diddy things will make negative influence any potential candidates for Diddy's circle except for Diddy himself.

If you are engaged in Diddy's party, it means that you are very connected and definitely has good chance to nominated by your friends in nom com and voted in.

We should remember that rock hall is an inner circle thing, most influential factor is connection. Recently, 100% performer inductees all have huge connections. If you engage in Diddy's party, you are likely to have connections.

So except for Diddy, others are not criminal as of now, so that engaging in Diddy's party and circle is an advantage to them instead sadly.

Four!

Day 4: Oasis

Origin: Manchester, England

Band Members: Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, Tony McCaroll, Paul McGuigan, Andy Bell, Alan White

Previously Nominated: 2024

Essential Albums:
1. Definitely Maybe (1994)
2. What's the Story, Morning Glory? (1995)
3. The Masterplan LP (1996)
4. Don't Believe the Truth (2005)
5. Dig Out Your Soul (2008)

Essential Songs
1. Live Forever (1994)
2. Supersonic (1994)
3. Wonderwall (1995)
4. Don't Look Back in Anger (1995)
5. Champagne Supernova (1995)

Influence:
The Beatles, The Kinks, The Smiths

The Legacy:
Coldplay, Muse, One Direction

Oasis is back! The last rock band that embodied old school sex, drugs, and rock and roll, Oasis was one of the biggest acts ever in the 90s. Helmed by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher they ushered a new era of 90s rock which was the BritPop scene. Their sound so distinct it has made them the face of the 90s UK music scene. They ain't a slouch either elsewhere as Wonderwall has become a staple meme for men with the worst karaoke skills. You could say they only made two good albums, but there is no denying the talent of Oasis. With a reunion tour on the horizon, Oasis seems poised to come back again and be proper Rock Hall Inductees!

Coming Up!

This is All That!

Mariah Carey, Eric B & Rakim, Queen Lafitah, Luther Vandross, New Edition
I think all slam-dunks next year.

Aaliyah, the Replacements, the Bangles,
give you solid 8 performer inductees.

Probably some of Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, Thin Lizzy, Hooties, Alanis, Bunneymen, Devo, most of them have ZERO chance or ship has sailed.

Cyndi Lauper, Warren Zevon no chance since they were screwed by Kate Bush disaster.

It's funny how Poseidon remarks are kinda the opposite what the Hall CEO and President are saying and also with the NomCom

Five! Five! Five!

5. TLC

Origin: Atlanta, Georgia

*=Deceased

Members: Tionne "T-Bone" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes*, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas

Essential Albums:
1. CrazySexyCool (1994)
2. Fanmail (1999)
3. 3D (2002)

Essential Songs:
1. Ain't to Proud to Beg (1992)
2. Waterfalls (1994)
3. Creep (1994)
4. No Scrubs (1999)
5. Unpretty (2002)

Influence:
Janet Jackson, The Pointer Sisters, Salt-N-Pepa

The Legacy:
Aaliyah, Becky G, Christina Aguilera

Not to be mistaken for the TV channel of the same name, TLC was a tour de force girl group. Consisting of the sultry "T-Bone", the girl next door "Chilli", and of course the streetwise "Left Eye". They had a short peak, but for a time you couldn't discuss 90s R&B without TLC. Their music has continued to persist in pop culture via commercials and part of a hit Nickelodeon tv series. Hopefully with the Hall embracing R&B in recent years, TLC gets a shot.

Plebeian,

What are your predictions for Rock Hall inductees in the next five years (2025-2029) (If 8 inductees each year)?.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/10/2024 @ 22:35pm

Glad to see you back, Plebeian! Wish that FRL had some kind of "mailing list" since they take our emails already lol.

Predictions coming soon, but I'll probably carbon copy my list from the previous board before it was shut down weeks ago.

And, I wish we could block certain posters. Most are fine, but I'm tired of one trident-weaving individual who richie flocks to...

At the halfway point now! At number six!

6. Eric B. And Rakim

Origin: Queens, New York

Members: Eric B., Rakim

Previously Nominated: 2012, 2024

Essential Albums:
1. Paid in Full (1987)
2. Follow the Leader (1988)

Essential Songs:
1. Paid in Full (1987)
2. I Ain't No Joke (1987)
3. I Know You Got Soul (1987)
4. Microphone Fiend (1988)
5. Don't Sweat the Technique (1992)

Influence:
Isaac Hayes, Run-D.M.C., Kurtis Blow

The Legacy:
Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep

Eric B. And Rakim were hip-hop's first duo that took the genre by storm. They helped advanced the transition of hip hop to rap at the tail end of the 1980s with amazing lyrical wordplay. Eric created the beats and Rakim was the MC both complementing one another in being the dominant hip hop duo. Even with a recent nomination of this year, there is still those that haven't forgotten their impact. Pump Up the Volume indeed!

The possible ballot for next year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations/inductions.

Bjork

Mariah Carey

Coldplay

Daft Punk

De La Soul

Lauryn Hill

Iron Maiden

Joy Division/New Order

Lenny Kravitz

Cyndi Lauper

Alanis Morrissette

Oasis

OutKast

Diana Ross

Thin Lizzy

Luther Vandross

Additional Honorees:

John Coltrane

New York Dolls

Fela Kuti

Carol Kaye

Ed Sullivan

Tom Wilson

Ngl, my predictions are way more accurate since they all have tremendous credentials to earn induction than some of this year's honorees. Very unfortunate that Cher, DMB, Peter Frampton & Foreigner got in while Joy Division/New Order, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Replacements, OutKast, De La Soul, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Oasis, Beck, The White Stripes & others are still remaining on the outside looking in.

Sleven Seven!

7. Linkin Park

Origin: Agoura Hills, California

*=Deceased

Members: Chester Bennington*, Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, Brad Delson, Colin Brittain, Rob Bourdon, Emily Armstrong, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell

Essential Albums:
1. Hybrid Theory (2000)
2. Meteora (2003)
3. Minutes to Midnight (2007)
4. A Thousand Suns (2010)
5. Living Things (2012)

Essential Songs:
1. In the End (2000)
2. One Step Closer (2000)
3. Crawling (2000)
4. Numb (2003)
5. What I've Done (2007)

Influence:
Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Deftones

The Legacy:
Of Mice and Men, Bring Me the Horizon, The Chainsmokers

Inspiring many imitators and amateur YouTube AMVs, Linkin Park was one of the definitive sounds of 2000s rock. For better or worse, they brought back the fading edge in rock and kept that rolling till Chester's tragic death. You know Linkin Park and I know Linkin Park, everyone knows Linkin Park! They were everywhere! With a new singer in Emily Armstrong, Linkin Park is as sharper than ever and now being eligible next year has the Hall watching them now.

Plebeian,

Good to see your 12 days back for another year. Quick comments on what you've presented so far.

You started off with some real dark horses. Silver Apples and Johnny Ace seem highly unlikely to ever get a nom, let alone an induction. I do see a possibility that the Specials are considered for an Early Influence spot, but otherwise their chances are pretty low too.

Oasis is a lock for eventual induction, possibly as soon as this year. They've been discussed plenty on these boards and I'm in agreement with most people that they should find their way back onto the ballot this year. Personally, I've always thought they were a bit overrated, but I can't deny their popularity and impact. My 17-year-old son asked me just last week if I'd ever heard of a song called "Wonderwall" and said he thought it was pretty good.

TLC absolutely belongs in the Hall and I'm a little surprised they don't get more play in these forums. They are an elite level girl group that completely altered how women could be perceived in hip hop and R&B. Now that Mary J. is in, it won't be long before they pop up among the nominees.

EBAR is a tricky one because I don't know how many people outside of hip hop really know that much about them. Their influence and talent is undeniable and the nominating committee clearly has them as a priority, but they may unfortunately have to be side-doored to gain induction.

I agree with everything you said about Linkin Park, yet somehow I don't see them getting their shot in the near future. Not sure why I think that, but it just feels like they are going to have to wait a bit to get their due. It will come though and once they are nominated I think they'll get in. I'd be happy to be completely wrong about this one.

8ight!

8. 8. PJ Harvey (1969-)

Origin: Dorset, England

Essential Albums:
1. Dry (1992)
2. Rid of Me (1993)
3. To Bring You My Love (1995)
4. Stories from the City, Stories (2000)
5. Let England Shake (2011)

Essential Songs:
1. Rid of Me (1992)
2. 50 Ft Queenie (1992)
3. Down By the Water (1995)
4. This Mess We're In (Featuring Thom Yorke) (2000)
5. Good Fortune (2000)

Influence:
Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits

The Legacy:
Arctic Monkeys, St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

A music career that continues to get better and better throughout the decade, PJ Harvey just gets it. It's honestly quite hard to describe her. From an alt rock goddess to a folksy figure to a social commentary genius there's no denying the amazing range of talent Harvey has. She has rubbed the likes of Nick Cave, Queens of the Stone Age, Thom Yorke, and more into her mess too. The Hall still has a hard time embracing alt rock, but PJ Harvey has the credentials and feminine voice for more female acts.

They're going underground!

9. The Jam

Origin: Woking, Sorey, England

Members: Paul Weller, Rick Buckler, Bruce Foxton

Essential Albums:
1. In the City (1977)
2. All Mod Cons (1978)
3. Setting Sons (1979)
4. Sound Affects (1980)
5. Dig the New Breed (1982)

Essential Songs:
1. In the City (1977)
2. English Rose (1978)
3. Going Underground (1979)
4. That's Entertainment (1980)
5. A Town Called Malice (1982)

Influence:
The Who, Wilson Pickett, Small Faces/Faces

The Legacy:
Green Day, Blur, The Stone Roses

The Jam was everything great about being British. The love of the countryside, hanging with mates at the pub, and of course love of Mother England. They embraced Mod Rock and temporarily revived the style that was once faded away since then. The first throwback kind of band you know? Out of all the English punk bands that came out, they were not an American hit. But in England they were superstars. The Rock Hall has recognized acts that may have not been hit makers here in the U.S., but are still incredibly influential. A real kick in the balls that these glorious band still isn't in.

It's always not unknown when it comes to the most ridiculous RRHOF snubs meaning the committee needs to correct those omissions sooner or later. In retrospect, there's deserving artists who are already inducted based on meeting the criteria of influence, innovation, impact & significance regardless of genres & instruments. However there's others who also got in because of various things that has nothing to do with said criteria. So with said, here's the list of the worst RRHOF inductees of all time.

Journey
Foreigner
Steve Miller
Chicago
Peter Frampton
Darlene Love
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
The Moody Blues
The Zombies
The Hollies
The Dave Clark Five
Bon Jovi
Dire Straits
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Stevie Nicks
Carly Simon
Laura Nyro
Percy Sledge
Lloyd Price
Bobby Darin
Gene Pitney
The Lovin Spoonful

Look I have nothing against these artists, it's just they didn't changed anything related to the whole development of rock & roll as an legitimate art form while their work has rarely been less remembered by experts & historians!

Ben 10!

10. Megadeth

Origin: Los Angeles, California

*=Deceased

Band Members: Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Gar Samuelson*, Chris Poland, Marty Friedman, Nick Menza*, Jimmy DeGrasso, Shawn Drover, Chris Broderick

Essential Albums:
1. Peace Sells…Who's Buying? (1986)
2. Rust in Peace (1990)
3. Countdown to Extinction (1992)
4. Youthanasia (1994)

2. Holy Wars…The Punishment Due (1990)

4. Symphony of Destruction (1992)
5. A Tout Le Monde (1994)

Influence:
Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden

The Legacy:
Pantera, Dream Theater, Rob Zombie

The heavy metal band to rival Metallica, Megadeth was a true beast in what was a vast sea of other heavy metals of the time. Led by a fired up (literally) and spiteful Dave Mustaine, Megadeth was like the Sega Genesis to Metallica's Super Nintendo. Megadeth focused more on social commentary and nihilism of society. Life sucks and you will learn to deal with it! They were much more appealing and aggressive in their sound, going for a more thrash metal vibe than anything. As controversial as Mustaine is you would be lying to yourself if you didn't believe he was the sh*t. Heavy Metal is sadly still in the infant stage for the Hall and mostly having to rely on questionable inductions (JP in "Musical Excellence") and old favorites (Ozzy) to make sure they are not neglecting the genre. When that time comes hopefully Megadeth's turn will happen. I mean they did the Duke Nukem theme! Duke Nukem!

Plebeian,

PJ Harvey would be a great nominee and I think she's in that Sinead, Bjork, Tori Amos group that's being considered now that Kate Bush has been inducted. Definitely has the critical acclaim and influence, just wonder if the voting body is hip enough to get her inducted.

If and when Oasis get in that could open the door for the Jam, which seems a bit backward, but Oasis was a far bigger success in the U.S. than the Jam ever was. If the Hall was based in the U.K. the Jam would have been in first ballot. We'll see what happens with them. Maybe E.I.?

Megadeth was massive at the time, but given metal's challenges with the Hall I don't know if they'll ever make the cut. Wouldn't mind it if they got in though.

Always crank it to 11!

11. Django Reinhardt

*=Deceased

Origin: Liberchies, Belgium

Essential Songs:
1. Minor Swing (1937)
2. Nuages (1940)
3. I'll See You In My Dreams (1946)
4. Django's Tiger (1946)
5. Brazil (1947)

Influence:
Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong

The Legacy:
Les Paul, Bob Wills, Willie Nelson

There are many guitar players that are absolute legends of the rock genre. Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and many others that cemented themselves as masters of the instrument. Those folk wouldn't have gotten their start if it weren't for people like Django Reinhardt. A popular guitar player of his time, Django innovated with guitar playing. Fast, slow, sloppy; You name it! He was truly ahead of his time. If Robert Johnson was the father that brought Rock in the U.S. Then Django Reinhardt was the one who brought around Europe. He's a perfect candidate for the early influence category and the Hall will gladly induct him when the time is right.

We are now at the finale! I enjoy doing this every year and I can't believe I've done this annual special for 5 years already! Time flies by! We have encountered all variants of Rock at this point and I don't seem to run out of candidates! Now, onto the 12th day!

12. Weird Al Yankovic

Origin: Downey, California

Essential Albums:
1. In 3-D (1984)
2. Dare to Be Stupid (1985)
3. Even Worse (1988)
4. UHF (1989)
5. Off the Deep End (1992)

Essential Songs:
1. Eat It (1984)
2. Like a Surgeon (1985)
3. Dare to Be Stupid (1985)
4. Smells Like Nirvana (1992)
5. Amish Paradise (1996)

Influence:
Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, DEVO

The Legacy:
Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies, The Lonely Island

Outlandish and hilarious, Weird Al Yankovic has spread laughter for more than 5 decades! An innovator of parody, he made even the most serious songs into full fledge comedy. Eat It, Amish Paradise, Polka Face, White and Dirty, Canadian Idiot, and so much more. However, Weird Al not only spans on music parodies but also cartoon appearances usual as himself or someone else. His appearances in cartoons has made him a generational icon that even kids are aware of the accordion jester. Johnny Bravo, Adventure Time, Captain Underpants, Billy and Mandy, and even debuting his hit song Dare to be Stupid on The Transformers: The Movie soundtrack! Weird Al is a busy guy, but he never fails to give his best 100% of the time. A Polka Hero even if there is one. A Hall induction would be the entertainment and eyes the Rock Hall could want. Imagine Weird Al making a song on the spot during his performance. That's how talented Weird Al is.

Thank You and All of You have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!

20. War

Maybe they could do something like this now it would be the 40th anniversary & also 30 years since the museum's grand opening.

I'm importing my predictions from the other forum...I'll make changes soon if I feel there are any:
1. Smashing Pumpkins - I've got a feeling, since they've never even been nominated before, that they might try something. If only they could mend fences with D'arcy.

2. Mariah Carey - Mary J. Blige has gone in. Mariah predates and encompasses her success and is hip hop adjacent

3. Sade - I think they'll be back. They are unique and acclaimed enough to get in

4. Bad Company - The RRHOF told us last year they weren't done with classic rock from the 70s. Paul Rodgers still hasn't gone in, and this is his most sustained success

5. Outkast - Far and away the most deserving rap act not yet in. Someone mentioned Stankonia turning 25, but they have an extensive arsenal of wide ranging stuff. Dirty South hasn't gotten represented yet

6. Oasis - Another band ramping up for a tour, so perfect timing as the brothers seem to be getting along

7. Cyndi Lauper - One of the two biggest 80s acts still on the outside looking in, her influence and following mystifies why she has been snubbed

8. Joy Division/New Order - New wave has almost got all the major players in, these guys are the other glaring 80s omission that have suffered the same fate as Cyndi

9. Alice in Chains - Never been nominated, and with Soundgarden getting the bridesmaid treatment year after year, I wonder if they get a shot this time around

10. Salt n Pepa - I'm gonna swing around this year to Salt, Pepa and Spinderella as the hip hop female contingent. TLC or En Vogue could easily also be here

11. Warren Zevon - I get the feeling there's gonna be a 70s singer/songwriter in this mix

12. White Stripes - Coldplay could be here as well

13. Pantera - And now for something COMPLETELY different. Metal doesn't translate well traditionally, could they go after the ultimate rebellious band who supplanted Metallica for underground after the Black album was released?

14. Bryan Adams - I have a hunch. Phil Collins could be here too.

15. The Commodores - should've gone in before Lionel solo

16. Lenny Kravitz - I hope he's not one and done, but I don't think he is.

I'm on the fence about a couple of my perennial noms, like Tori Amos in the wake of 90s influential women rockers getting in, and Iron Maiden or Snoop...but this list feels right to me.

And put the Monkees in while Micky is still alive, dammit!

I don't understand how come Joe Cocker is not there.

Posted by Denis on Wednesday, 12/25/2024 @ 12:02pm

The Rock Hall seems to have some vendetta with Bad Company

They have been considered at least a several times along Free but they have been rejected by the nomination committee

And apparently Foreigner had not been considered until well 2024

I still to my guns that we will see a Paul Rodgers AME induction instead

Boston,Styx,Jethro Tull,King Crimson or Meat Loaf will likely be the nominee given that Rick Krim was to go down that AOR or Progressive Rock route

Posted by Alec T on Wednesday, 12/25/2024 @ 19:07pm

My Predictions:

Nominees:
* Beck
* Mariah Carey
* Phil Collins
* Emerson Lake And Palmer
* Eric B & Rakhim
* Gloria Estefan
* Billy Idol
* INXS
* Cyndi Lauper
* Iron Maiden
* Alanis Morrisette
* The Pointer Sisters
* Queen Latifah
* Snoop Dogg
* Soundgarden

Seven most likely inductees from this list: Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Snoop Dogg, Beck, Pointer Sisters

ELP is an interesting choice

Why them over say King Crimson or Jethro Tull?

Posted by Alec T on Thursday, 12/26/2024 @ 13:10pm

If you ask me, King Crimson & Jethro Tull should've both been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame -- YEARS ago.

As for Emerson, Lake & Palmer...I've gotta get back to you on that one.

Posted by Johnny on Thursday, 12/26/2024 @ 19:50pm

As far as my choice of ELP goes:
The addition of Peter Shapiro to the nominating committee last year is interesting to me, and I think could help more of *my* style of music to get a look. Shapiro has been a major concert promoter in the jamband realm. His presence on the committee, to me, means that Phish is very likely to at least get mentioned in the nominating room in the future. But Shapiro is also aware of the influence of 70s Prog into the modern jamband sound, and seems like he would likely reach back to fill in some of those holes.

As far as the choice of ELP over King Crimson or Jethro Tull; it was just that ELP and TULL have some actual hits in their resumes, while Crimson is more of a cult band. And between ELP and Tull, I just felt in my gut that Shapiro might go for ELP.

I could also see Shapiro on the nominating committee leading to a long overdue nomination for Little Feat, I could see him advocate for Steve Winwood solo induction, and I could see him support Los Lobos and The Meters both getting another chance. He seems likely to be somebody that would nominate a band like Black Crowes or Blues Traveller for induction. I could also see him put up Primus or Bruce Hornsby for consideration.

That said I feel like the most likely classic rock pick for 2025 is like Foreigner an act that combined AOR and Progressive Rock I expect Boston or Styx to get the nod

Posted by Alec T on Saturday, 12/28/2024 @ 13:43pm

I personally think that the band drama that continues in Styx between Dennis DeYoung and the rest of the band would make the nominating committee wary of them.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Boston on the list, but my gut just doesn't feel like it's going to happen.

Posted by Shrek on Saturday, 12/28/2024 @ 19:03pm

My predictions, most have already been mentioned but a few are my hopefuls.

Bryan Adams
Bad Company
Boston
Mariah Carey
Coldplay
Phil Collins
The Guess Who
Billy Idol
Iron Maiden
The Jam
Joy Division/New Order
Cyndi Lauper
Alanis Morissette
Oasis
Outkast
Diana Ross
Soundgarden
War
The White Stripes
Warren Zevon

Rewarding the Styx drama I'm becoming more and more curious if they'll be including Gowan with the band. Heard a pitch for it and it actually makes sense.

Side bar: anyone else thinking, after the election and all the disney stuff, that there will be a clear nod to the right? Like a nomination for Meat Loaf or something

Posted by Mat r on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 09:01am

Mat R,

What are your predictions for Rock Hall inductees in the next 10 years (2025-2034) (If 8 inductees each year)?.

Posted by richie on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 09:47am

Mat R

I had Meat Loaf as a possibility and given he was I believe friends with Dave Grohl I could very well see him get the Frampton spot I have Warren Zevon projected to in 2025 while Boston or Styx gets the Foreigner spot

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 09:58am

But Disney only broadcasts the ceremonies they do not control the nomination committee

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 10:54am

Alec t

Re Disney: I know but I do think they're involvement influences a lot of hall actions (eg. Where the nominations were announced, American Idol, ect.). It's not out of the realm of possibilities that John Sykes talks with Disney peeps about what Disney would like.

Posted by Mat r on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 15:32pm

The thing about Meat Loaf is that if you induct him, you should also induct Jim Steinman in a side category. Steinman wrote Meat Loaf's biggest songs.

Posted by xwing1212 on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 17:19pm

Without Steinman, there wouldn't be Meat Loaf.

My 2025 Predicted Ballot:

Coldplay
The White Stripes
Fiona Apple
Daft Punk
Weezer
Beck
Bjork
OutKast
No Doubt
Mariah Carey
De La Soul
Pixies
Cyndi Lauper
Billy Idol
Iron Maiden
Bad Company
Diana Ross
Donny Hathaway

Eight Performer Inductees would be: Bad Company, Billy Idol, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, OutKast

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:20pm

There would also be a ninth inductee from that ballot. Iron Maiden sidedoored via Musical Excellence.

I'm also very aware of the eight I figure would be Performer inductees are the eight most populist names on this hypothetical ballot. Perhaps an argument could be made that Daft Punk around the time of Random Access Memories were on the level of Billy Idol or Cyndi Lauper commercially.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:23pm

Also continuing to induct more classic rock bands all because of any reunion chances not happening only cheapens the honor. We already seen cases with Dire Straits a few years ago & Foreigner this year. Heck continue to go back with the 70's as a whole is pretty ridiculous.

It would be pretty epic if artists since 1980s would take over the whole ballot. I mean most are out there still performing at large stadiums, arenas & major festivals.

The reason is almost all artists from earlier decades are no longer around while others aren't getting any younger, why not just completely move on & induct the ones from that time period through the side categories. It could work as it happened with Kraftwerk, MC5, Dionne Warwick, Jimmy Buffett, Gil Scott Heron etc.

Posted by JE on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:27pm

Then again, we already seen the creme of the crop from those times honored. So very likely the contemporaries of The Beatles, James Brown, Bob Dylan, The Stones, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, The Who, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Elton John, Black Sabbath, David Bowie & The Velvet Underground wouldn't have any appearances on the list moving forward.

Posted by JE on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:33pm

I might as well repost this. I made a rubric for who I can conceivably see be voted in among eligible artists that were also inductees here in Rock Hall Revisited/Projected. It's really just around 40 names with a one-star extension that gets us into the 50s count via some choices that I guess are conceivable.

Artists are ranked from one-to-five stars based on the chances I'd give them when on a ballot. The "tiebreaker" number after is a rough ballpark guess, scored 1-5, of their actual importance.

JE, I agree with just inducting everyone prior to the 80s via the side categories. At this point, the ballot has mostly moved on in that direction, anyway.

I've always been a proponent of a 25 year eligibility window, so once it's been 51 years since your first record, you should be ineligible for the general ballot. If such a rule were in place, we'd now have nobody on the ballot who debuted prior to 1985.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:37pm

I may have erred in adding Donny Hathaway to the above list just now. It will at least show where I rank him but he is NOT a RHR/RHP inductee.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:39pm

I'd probably move Harry Nilsson down to three stars, looking back over the above list I made. Had he been on the ballot 15-25 years ago, it would have been an easy induction. But he's sort of less remembered as each year goes by.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 18:41pm

I'll be adding Jim Croce to my above rubric. Probably ** (2) seems fitting.

Posted by Casper on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:08pm

Casper and JE

That's why I say it's more likely that Paul Rodgers gets AME than Bad Company or Free getting in

Then you can have someone like Slash or come out and sing "Feel Like Making Love" and "All Right Now" with Paul at his induction ceremony

Posted by Alrc on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:32pm

Also you induct Boston and at their induction ceremony you have people come out to preform with Tom Scholz and have a different singers come out to preform some of Boston's greatest hits

That is something that is doable rather than trying to induct an act and try to get them to do a reunion

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:37pm

Also this time around with the reunion tour and everything I am sure there is a good chance if Oasis is inducted they will come out and perform

Posted by Alec T on Monday, 12/30/2024 @ 19:46pm

I feel Oasis will be inducted next year

Yes, they have a ton of enemies, but their huge reunion tour will make all industry voters vote for them as the tour will make a ton of money for music industry, this will be enough to push Oasis in

Also, Kate Bush was inducted immediately after her popularity resurgence, do not think this is coincidence. So yes I think Oasis is lock for induction in 2025.

Posted by Richieleitern on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 05:56am

It's embarrassing Iron Maiden has not been inducted. They continue to march along in their late 60's. Still at the top of their game in outstanding concerts. Many groups by that time have splintered or are no longer active. I believe Iron Maiden will be inducted this cycle. Surprised Mariah Carey was not inducted last year. I also believe she will be inducted this cycle. People on here have made good points on the upcoming Oasis tour. It should be a monster for the music industry. Ticket sales, Oasis T-shirts and memorabilia etc. I'm wondering if Steve Winwood will receive a solo induction. He's an amazing musician and still playing at a high level into his late 70's. My guess Diana Ross & Phil Collins will be the 2x Inductees. Phil Collins similar to Lionel Richie. He was everywhere in the 1980's. He's had recent health problems. Deserves the award now.
2024-2025 Induction Cycle.
1. Iron Maiden
2. Mariah Carey
3. Oasis
4. Steve Winwood (Ballot or Special Award)
5. Diana Ross
6. Phil Collins
7. Rap Artist I'll go with Salt N Pepa

I refuse to believe the Rock Hall would sidedoor induct Iron Maiden. This is a band that still sells out stadiums. They're just going to have to ride it out. Even if it takes 8 nominations like Black Sabbath.

Hey Guys,

John Sykes has revealed that his close friend Sheryl Crow will be joining the nominating committee this year. So with the addition of Sheryl on the nominating committee, What are your revised predictions for the 2025 nominees?.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:26pm

Of course Sheryl Crow will be joining the nominating committee! Expect more bland and boring nominations moving forward.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:37pm

If anything, inducting Iron Maiden via Musical Excellence is the canary in the coal mine for heavy metal in the Rock Hall moving forward. No other heavy metal band can get inducted if both Judas Priest and Iron Maiden have to be backdoored. Ozzy is a different case since he's a figure that transcends the genre.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:41pm

But before I go into a rant, Richie you should provide a source on the Sheryl Crow thing.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:44pm

Jimmy Buffett does not have the critical acclaim that maiden has

Posted by lei on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:45pm

Sheryl joining is just so boring. We're sure to get awesome milquetoast nominations with that one. Is Lionel Richie going to join next?

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:51pm

Xwing1212,

Sheryl said in a interview that she wants Melissa Etheridge and Boston to get in, as well as Lenny Kravitz and Sinead O'Connor, who were both nominated last year but missed out on induction.

Posted by richie on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:54pm

Lenny Kravitz is a Musical Excellence caliber artist. Why is he even being considered to be inducted as a performer? Let me guess, it's because of his connections in the music industry.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 15:57pm

Like I would love to be a fly on the wall at the nominating committee to see them try to justify why Lenny Kravitz or even why Peter Frampton or Lionel Richie deserved to be inducted.

Posted by xwing1212 on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:00pm

I have read the interview of John Sykes.

Firstly, The B52s, Phil Collins and Pixies have been discussed in nom com many times. Good chance they will eventually be included.

Than, disney does not care the amount of inductees, which is a really good thing. I mean inducting more is better. So expect similar amount of inductees in next year (16)

Posted by power on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:01pm

I'm not sure Oasis' reunion tour is enough reasoning get them inducted. If we're talking live music success, Coldplay broke the record for most attended run tour all time last month and they will be filling double the stadiums in America next year.

Posted by Blair on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:06pm

Coldplay was going to be on the 2024 ballot but they were pulled off the last minute

Posted by Alec T on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:14pm

But popularity resurgence and reunion is more interesting for rock hall.

Rage has a big tour and then are inducted in 23.

Rock hall loves that kind of thing. If rock hall does not have catch the change in relevance, rock hall will be embrassing.

So yes huge change is also important.

Also, I think Coldplay and Oasis could be nominated and inducted at the same time

Posted by Richieleitern on Tuesday, 12/31/2024 @ 16:16pm

Come to think of it, it's very possible both Coldplay & Oasis would be inducted in 2025. I mean two or more acts in their similar genres were honored around the same time before. Here's what I'm talking about.

2015: Paul Butterfield & Stevie Ray Vaughan

2016: Chicago & Steve Miller

2017: ELO & Yes

2018: The Cars & Dire Straits

2020: Depeche Mode & Nine Inch Nails

2021: Jay Z & LL Cool J (Musical Excellence)

2022: Duran Duran & Eurythmics

2023: N/A

2024: Foreigner & Peter Frampton

It can be a case for next year.

Jethro Tull has been previously considered and Thin Lizzy has been previously nominated along with Steppenwolf and The J. Geils Band.

FRL Fans & Music Fans. Have an outstanding and healthy New Year 2025. Very excited like many of you posters here. Who the new slate of 15-20 Nominees will be for 2025. Great to hear from Enigmaticus on the forum. He's 1 of the most knowledgeable poster here on Progressive Rock. I've been thinking of 10 deserving music artists that could be nominated and inducted. Here's a Quick 10.
1. Peter, Paul & Mary - Musical Excellence
2. Rick Springfield - Great Longevity. Jesse's Girl an iconic song.
3. Patti LaBelle - (If Diana Ross Is Not Selected).
4. Blue Oyster Cult- (Amazing amount of Influence on later Rock bands. Intelligent lyrics. Great music and longevity.) Don't Fear The Reaper & Burning For You iconic Songs.
5. The Guess Who - Seems like they are gathering more momentum each year. Could be on ballot or Special Award.
6. Scorpions - They are starting their 60th year as a band. Nice round number. Sold millions of records. A global band many fans around the world. Rock You Like A Hurricane iconic song.
7. Ben E. King - He was nominated a few times over 30 years ago. Has been deceased around a decade now. Very loved and respected singer. Spanish Harlem & Stand By Me iconic songs.
8. X - I'm thinking X could be a surprise nomination this year or next year. Billy Idol could take this spot instead.
9. Steve Winwood - The great Steve Winwood inducted with Traffic 20 years ago but could resurface again as a nomination. Also, could be Musical Excellence Award.
10. Black Crowes - A respected band who exploded on the scene late 80's and early 90's. Hard To Handle, Jealous Again, She Talks To Angels incredible songs.

Actually, Sheryl in the nom comm is really a great thing. She is so well connected with Lilith Fair that she's going to push for the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Sarah McLachlan, Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, etc. for their nomination.

hey all again!!

I definitely agree with Elle Dee, Sheryl will likely push for more amazing women to make it into the hall, and having more actual musicians on the comitte is always a huge plus (will miss lenny kaye and paul schaffer)

Updated my rubric for likelihood of Hall induction. I went back over our Snubbed Performers list and was more lenient on who I could see receiving a nomination in the near future. Pre-1970s still feels like a dead zone.

Artists are ranked from one-to-five stars based on the chances I'd give them when on a ballot. The "tiebreaker" number after is a rough ballpark guess, scored 1-5, of their actual importance.

Anyone with one or two stars would be a pretty unlikely inductee for the 2025 class BUT their odds will improve as the Hall continues to cull 6-8 names from the list that are currently above them.

Also, nothing is for certain regarding induction BUT the five star chances that I give Diana Ross and OutKast DOES indicate that they would 100% receive induction under any ballot permutation.

OutKast - ***** (5)

I'm thinking Pixies should probably be bumped up to three stars. They have far more critical acclaim and clear influence than basically any of that 80s indie scene's other options (Replacements, Devo, JD-NO, Jane's, etc). I feel they'd even have a better shot than Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Basically every critic will vote for them and plenty of other inducted rockers.

So, if the Pixies make the ballot, I think they're actual contenders.

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 16:22pm

Hey all,

I'll throw in a prediction -

The B-52's
Bad Company
Billy Idol
Bryan Adams
Coldplay
Cyndi Lauper
Diana Ross
Eric B & Rakim
Iron Maiden
Joy Division/New Order
Lauryn Hill
Ohio Players
Outkast
Pixies
Soundgarden
Tracy Chapman

Posted by RG on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 16:24pm

Also, I give Devo three stars because I feel their repeat ballot appearances in recent years indicates that they're actually doing somewhat well in the voting. They've likely had people ahead of them in their three lanes (indie/underground, 80s and classic rock) and there's only so many names that can block their induction for much longer.

RG,

Out of your predictions for the 2025 nominees, Which ones do you see being inducted (If 8 inductees again)?.

Anyone else feel like the inductees in 2025 will once again be more populist?

I mean like the choices you see at the "Voice Your Choice" machine at the museum?

Consensus Ballot According To FRL User Predictions:

Bad Company
Billy Idol
Coldplay
Cyndi Lauper
De La Soul
Diana Ross
Iron Maiden
Joy Division-New Order
Mariah Carey
Oasis
OutKast
Phil Collins
Soundgarden
War
White Stripes

These names all cleared double digits (10 or more votes) with the exception of War who had 9 (but a two vote lead over the next group with 7 each).

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 17:56pm

7 Votes: Alanis Morissette, Eric B. & Rakim, Lenny Kravitz, Luther Vandross

6 Votes: Lauryn Hill, Patti LaBelle, Sade, Smashing Pumpkins

5 Votes: B-52's, Bryan Adams, Pixies

Posted by Casper on Friday, 01/3/2025 @ 17:59pm

That consensus ballot would have:

arguable 2 next biggest names waiting on Hip Hop (De La Soul and OutKast)
arguable 2 next biggest names for 80s superstars (Billy Idol and Cyndi Lauper)
3 big names from the 90s alternative wave (Oasis, Soundgarden and White Stripes)
3 classic rock adjacent options (Bad Company, Phil Collins and War)
2 super pop icons (Diana Ross and Mariah Carey)
next biggest metal name (Iron Maiden)
arguably the most important artist on the outside looking in (Joy Division-New Order)
1 stadium level rock/pop act (Coldplay)

It really would work out to be one of the biggest ballots imaginable as far as public name-recognition goes.

Can you imagine the show they would put on when inducted. Smashing

Hey Casper,
Is there enough to work with to make a side-category consensus by any chance?

Posted by Raichu on Tuesday, 01/7/2025 @ 16:08pm

Speaking of which

These are my as of now early 2025 side category predictions

Possible Musical Excellence picks

Paul Rodgers

DEVO

Carol Kaye

And if not inducted as Preformers then

Iron Maiden or Kris Kristofferson

Possible Early Influence picks

John Coltrane

Dick Dale

Ravi Shankar

Possible Ahmet Ertegun Award picks

Rick Rubin

Ed Sullivan

Richard Lester

Posted by Alec T on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 16:17pm

Raichu, that doesn't matter because predicting the side categories means you're predicting INDUCTEES. So we can tally those when people make their induction predictions. It has nothing to do with the upcoming ballot.

The side categories are also pretty random unless they're being used to give up on a fruitless candidacy (Chaka Khan, MC5, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Judas Priest). There's less of a method to it.

Posted by Casper on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 18:08pm

I tallied up the last few prediction ballots. Consensus is the same 15 names.

It takes 11 votes to make the group consensus. Eric B and Rakim trail with 9 (would be 16th name on the ballot) and Alanis Morissette and The B-52's have 8 (would be 17th/18th names on ballot).

16 or more nominees happened in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022. There's about a coin flip chance of that happening in 2025.

17 or more nominees happened in 2022 (17) and 2017 and 2018 (19). About a 1-in-3 shot for that happening.

Posted by Casper on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 18:26pm

If the consensus ballot were the actual ballot and they inducted 6, my choices would be Coldplay, Iron Maiden, Joy Division-New Order, Mariah Carey, OutKast, and White Stripes. Add War if they induct 7 and add De la Soul if they induct 8, with Phil Collins, Oasis and Soundgarden all close behind.

Posted by Brian on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 22:28pm

As much as I love Iron Maiden, I think that they will get the Judas Priest treatment and they'll get in on their third nomination via Musical Excellence just like Judas Priest did, rather than as Performers.

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Wednesday, 01/8/2025 @ 23:20pm

I just feel Maiden will be 100% inducted in 2025.

If they are nominated, then they will be included as performer

If they are not nominated, they will be included as ME

Do not see rock hall misses the chance.

Hey Guys,

Official Rock Hall voter ballots are going digital. Eddie Trunk said on his SiriusXM Trunk Nation show today and he said:

As a voter, I got a note from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yesterday, and they said... the voting is going to be online... ...like everything it's going paperless, it's going digital for the first time. So they sent an e-mail to all the voters yesterday, just confirming the e-mail address 'cause they said that's how we're going to be getting the ballot now going forward."

What do you think?.

Posted by richie on Friday, 01/10/2025 @ 16:25pm

Ritchie,

I think this is extremely smart and solves many problems that were previously had by sticking to the mail system. Long overdue change to the voting process
