This is certainly an interesting year...especially considering Blur. That band has everything going their way except mainstream success in the United States.
Worst part is that The Black Crowes will surely make it in. They're the kind of roots rocky type thing that Wenner loves and that Springsteen's manager is probably a fan of...all it takes is a ballot of nine with four weaklings and you can shove in any five artists you want.

PRIMUS SUCKS DONT VOTE FOR THEM!

Alice In Chains (perhaps my favorite of all time), Ice Cube, Mariah Carey (mostly for her earlier stuff but staying power means something too), and Smashing Pumpkins (I'd like to see them eek in).

I see The Smashing Pumpkins being the only absolute lock for this year.
Alice In Chains, The Black Crowes, Blur, Mariah Carey, Moby and Primus are the strongest possiblities for first-time eligibles.

A Tribe Called Quest would be a cool induction, but even if the Hall continues to honour rap they aren't necessarily a lock. A few years down the line, maybe.
Alice In Chains will make it in, but I'm doubtful that it'll happen before the bigger-selling grunge bands (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam etc).
Blur will be a saf bet (assuming that the Hall gives a damn about UK pop). I doubt it would happen before Oasis.
I can't really imagine Kim Deal getting in twice, so The Breeders are probably not going to get in.
The Charlatans UK are a solid group, but they're too derivative of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, and not nearly influential enough to be considered. They'll never even be considered so it doesn't matter.
Moby is a safe bet, even if I detest his music.
I don't know about Primus' chances really. An odd one.
I hate Smashing Pumpkins, but they'll make it in regardless.
Spiritualized were better than the SP's. Innovative dream-pop, and surely influential.
Ween probably won't make it.
Yeah, it's a good year overall.

Holy shit! Nelson, Vanilla Ice, Slaughter, Wilson Phillips, Kid Rock and Firehouse. A murderer's row of talent. "I cant live without your love and affection. I cant stand another night on my own." I love Nelson.

This year actually has ATCQ, AIC, Blur, The Breeders, fIREHOSE, Jesus Lizard, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins, Spiritualized, Therapy? and Ween, any of whom would make a solid induction.

I still don't understand how Teenage Fanclub can have their induction chances at 33%? Isn't that....33% too high?

2015/2016 from a 2008 vantage point looks to have more promising nominees than 2014/2015.
A Tribe Called Quest should certainly get in since the rap revolution will no doubt be acknowledged fully. Moby, the best-known figure of electronica, and the Black Crowes are also likely inductees of very different types, whilst with the Pixies already inducted I imagine by 2015/2016 Kim Deal may get another chance with the Breeders.
With Nirvana and Soundgarden I imagine already inducted by 2015/2016, Alice in Chains may have a chance, as may the Smashing Pumpkins (though they could take several years).

Hmm...this is a somewhat difficult year. I would love to see some of the less recognized bands on this list make it in (the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, for example), but I just don't seem them beating out Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, or even Hole. Oh well...with that in mind, I would vote for:
Smashing Pumpkins (they're the shoo-in)
Alice in Chains
Blur
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
A Tribe Called Quest
My prediction for the inductees:
Smashing Pumpkins
Alice in Chains
Mariah Carey
Blur
Sorry, Hole fans; they don't quite make the cut in my book.
Posted by AreUExperienced on Monday, 07.13.09 @ 19:26pm
Nice year.
As much as it makes me cringe, Mariah Carrey is going to get in first time.
Alice and pumpkins are shoo-ins in my book.
Blur deserve to be there, very witty, clever band, HOWEVER,
Leisure was released in 1991, which totally voids their chances for 2015, no?
Primus or Hole I don't see happening at all.
A Tribe Called Quest would be totally sweet, and could take Blur's place. (I hope!)
En Vogue is also somewhat possible, but not very likely.
...In my world, Blues Traveler and Vanilla Ice are locks. xD
The Charlatans... hell no. "The Only One I Know" will forever be an indie classic though. =D

I would also vote for Blues Traveler

If your theories about solo artists/bands is correct ... 2015 might be the year Bon Jovi is inducted as 1990 was the year of Jon Bon Jovi's 1st solo album (Blaze of Glory).

A Tribe Called Quest - a shoe in for rap
Deee-Lite - vastly underrated, light years ahead of their time, more creativity in their pinkies than a thousand progressive rock bands
Mariah Carey - seriously now, the most hit songs ever right? give me a reason she won't get in on the first year
Moby - a potent force in techno and rock
Orbital - high lauded in techno
Smashing Pumpkins - on the heels of Nirvana, or relegated to the likes of Chicago, Boston, and the Cars of rock music history? How about we put in Butch Vig at the least, since he singlehandedly produced all the greatest grunge records of all time.

Mariah Carey and Smashing Pumpkins definatly will get in. Alice in Chains could, and Blur is a possiability.
And you people can't forget Mariah has the 2nd most number 1's right behind the Beatles.

311 all the way...and feel that they are the most deserving because of no break up of the band also being the most consistent with new material.
Posted by will on Thursday, 06.17.10 @ 07:30am
AIC should absolutely be inducted, and I'm confident that they'll make it in eventually, but probably not first ballot. Kid Rock, Primus and Black Crowes are toss-ups for me (Of these only Kid Rock has a real chance; the Crowes haven't maintained their popularity while Primus have always been a cult band.) Blur should get in, but no way in hell will they get in first ballot, and I'd put money on them not getting in at all (How can they get in when The Smiths, The Cure, Joy Division and New Order can't?) If this Hall was in the UK all of those bands would get in easily, but oh well. I don't like Mariah Carey and don't think she should be inducted but I could see her making it in as she's kept the mainstream noticing her where Celine Dion hasn't. I could go either way on Moby.
Posted by Sam on Friday, 06.25.10 @ 21:32pm
I forgot about Smashing Pumpkins. I'd say they should be inducted, and out of this lot they're the only ones who really have a good shot at being first-ballot as they've had both popularity (in the 90's) and critical acclaim. Now, if they could become relevant again...
Posted by Sam on Friday, 06.25.10 @ 21:35pm
WHAT A WEAK YEAR.
My predictions in order:
1. Blur - Out of these boring potential nominees, they are the shoo-in.
2. Smashing Pumkins - VERY likely, but the HOF isn't as welcoming to goth rock.
3. Mariah Carey - I could see the HOF breaking the "rock" qualifications to let her in based on her massive career achievements and impact on pop music, just like what they did with Madonna.
4. Alice in Chains
5. The Black Crowes
6. Primus
7. A Tribe Called Quest
8. En Vogue
*HELL NO TO ICE-CUBE, VANILLA ICE, CELINE DION, KID ROCK & HOLE*
Posted by FREEDEE on Thursday, 10.7.10 @ 17:46pm
if there's any justice in this world Blur will get in, but they're as un-American as you can get, so who knows if that will work against them...
otherwise, I see the Pumpkins, Moby, Alice in Chains, and Mariah Carey all getting the nod
Posted by Jack on Friday, 11.12.10 @ 21:14pm
Blur's induction is highly unlikely for that very reason, which is a shame because I think they're a no-brainer. If The Smiths can't get any respect and bigger alternative acts like The Cure and Depeche Mode struggle to get on the ballot, there's no way Blur will get a fair shot. Alice in Chains probably will get it, though I don't think they'll get it until Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction and Rage Against the Machine are all in, so they'll probably have to wait a few years. Smashing Pumpkins are a lock, no doubt. Moby? Possibly. He's found success and he is respected, but the Hall's dislike for his type of music (Kraftwerk are STILL waiting in the wings and have only made one appearance on the ballot) greatly hurts his chances. If Kraftwerk (the godfathers of it all) and Depeche Mode (the leaders of electronica in the 80's alongside New Order) can get in, then that'll take his chances up. I'd say Mariah has a 50% chance, and I'll take that number up if Whitney Houston gets in. For popularity reasons Kid Rock has a chance.

Actually, in addition to being the first track on Leisure, "She's So High" was the first single, being released on 15 October 1990 in the UK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLtAbGlUv1o&feature=channel
I hope they get in, but I doubt it'll happen.

If Mariah is still around and relevant in 2015 *knock on wood* - without doubt!
the fact of the matter is that if Mariah was eligible now, she would be automatically be entered.
Mariah; despite what you may think of her, is already a Legend.
Hate on her all you want, there is no denying her influence.
Posted by Bastian on Tuesday, 11.29.11 @ 22:40pm
Mariah's HUGE comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi, secured her standing amongst the greats.
She proved all the naysayers wrong.
You can't write off talent. Especially not the likes of Mariah's talent.
Posted by bastian on Wednesday, 11.30.11 @ 02:57am
A Tribe Called Quest - DOn't know much at all about them but I know that they are highly regarded in rap circles so they might have a chance.
AIC - One of the biggest alt rock acts of the early 90's, probably will have to wait until after Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Blur - Great britpop band, but seeing as The Smiths have yet to get inducted I think the only britpop inductees are gonan be Oasis.
Cannibal Corpse - stupid "brootal" metal for stupid people. Hell no.
Danni Minogue - Her sister won't make it, she won't make it.
Dread Zeppelin - A reggae band covering led zeppelin with an elvis impersonator as the lead man? if only.
Hole - I think in the long terms they just didn't have enough impact.
Ice CUbe - Possible, but out of this year I can see a Tribe getting in first.
Mariah Carey - SHe actually has a good chance, massive album sales and influence, but she won't be a shoo in like madonna.
Moby - If the hall ever starts recognizing electronic music (excluding madonna) then Moby has a chance considering hee's one of the biggest names in techno
The Rembrandts - You mean the dudes who did the friends theme tune? no chance
Smashing Pumpkins - Maybe, Mellon Collie and Siamese dream are both very respected but I'm not too sure.
Vanilla Ice - Nah, he's too cool for the hall. Infact, he's so cool, it's like he's- Ice.
Posted by GFW on Wednesday, 12.21.11 @ 09:05am
Alice in Chains & The Black Crowes are both worthy nominees, in my book. The Breeders are a female group that received some commercial success. Of course, Mariah Carey has sold millions of records & been the kind of outsized personality the Hall sems to love.
Posted by Paul in KY on Wednesday, 12.21.11 @ 15:13pm
Probably:
Alice in Chains
Blur
The Black Crowes
The Smashing Pumpkins
Would be nice if somebody remembered them in the future:
Teenage Fanclub

Primus
The Breeders
Ween
Uncle Tupelo

My picks for 2016
1. Mariah Carey- One of most successful woman in music history and a shoe-in for induction
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn- Blues Legends will finally get his induction 25 years after his tradgic death
3. Yes- The 2nd progressive rock arist to be inducted. 1st was Genesis in 2010.
4. The Cure- They will finally get recognized for induction
5. N.W.A.- The Hip Hop Super Group will get in just in time before 2 Pac is eligible
6. Willie Nelson- He will finally ger inducted as a Early Influence
