10 comments so far (post your own)The Weeknd is innovative in a way with his use of 80s style beats but is heavily comparable to Michael Jackson voice wise and a darker more romantic feel but still similar music wise. Posted by Chase on Tuesday, 10/1/2013 @ 10:45am |
Saw this guy at The Hangout last Friday night. He closed down the main stage that night. When he was announced as a headliner, I was very disappointed. Bummed, actually. Posted by Paul in KY on Friday, 05/27/2016 @ 14:45pm |
Good perspective on him Paul. I wasn't too crazy about him either, especially now that he's a popstar. The media has been hyping him like crazy and I guess Rolling stone has been doing their part. If they keep that up, then yeah he'll be in the HOF Posted by Jason Voigt on Friday, 06/3/2016 @ 12:44pm |
Well, because there is no page yet for the Chainsmokers (even though they've been big the last two years), I guess I'll just put my two cents on them here. Saw them at Bonnaroo. I do side with Paul that their show is not so great unless you're really wanting to get down. Expect a medley of several of their remixes and hits. I do love their radio hits but their show was sorta dull on their part. Posted by Jason Voigt on Wednesday, 06/15/2016 @ 21:59pm |
He's mixed R&B with techno. Only has one light hearted song, but has grittier material, especially his collaborations with Datf Punk and his first three albums. Posted by Liam on Saturday, 08/31/2019 @ 21:40pm |
Ever wonder why the last Grammy ceremony was a disastrous commercial flop? It's because they didn't nominated The Weeknd on certain categories, which is what the masses wanted in the first the place. The boycott was a massive success, proving how out of touch the Recording Academy is to their consumers like the Hall. Posted by The Dude on Monday, 03/22/2021 @ 10:42am |
The weeknd has some rock and roll type music like tell your friends, rolling Stone, same old song and wicked games, false alarm etc I think he should be doing rock a type album/songs more often I really like him on those sounds.p.s he has also done a dirty Diana cover which is pretty impressive. Long way off, but I think this guy is on a Hall of Fame track. He's at the time I'm writing this probably the most prominent male popstar in the current US zeitgeist, his music is both incredibly popular and critically well-received, his career is peaking at the right time, and he has an interesting range of genre (R&B to Pop to New Wave-y Synthpop). 2037 could be a big year for Abel. Along with Drake he's the key player of the so-called Toronto Sound which has dominated RnB, pop, and rap for the last decade. If he retired tomorrow, it's hard to see him not going into the Hall of Fame. Posted by mat r on Monday, 03/14/2022 @ 00:17am |
"Blinding Lights" is ranked the #1 song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. That alone will get him a lot of support from those who have the votes that really count... Posted by PAUL BATTAGLIA on Thursday, 05/12/2022 @ 06:12am |
