Of course Beck's gonna be on here! He's a musical genius and deserves to be on here. But then again, we might have a generation dominated by rap. Who knows.

I'm on the fence on Beck. Unquestioned creativity and uniqueness, but he just doesn't strike me as a HoFer.

I think his body of work is impressive enough to make him a lock.

No discussion or support at all? This guy's taleneted, bringing elements of rock, rap, and folk together. And he's got a ton of crazy videos to go along with it.

he's a genius. pro'lly one of few to have hit every major genre as well...

Absolutely. He's a scientologist, though, but nobody's perfect...

Hey, what is the consensus on Beck? Kit, William, Liam, Dezmond?

Posted by shawn on Thursday, 12.27.07 @ 21:49pm

I've never been able to get into him for some reason. The phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" jumps to mind.

Posted by Kit on Friday, 12.28.07 @ 02:08am

wow, that would be amazing if beck got in, but it wont happen because hes not popular enough. most people only know him for a few songs instead of the rest of his awesomeness.

Beck is not Rock & Roll...

Posted by Tobias Riepre on Sunday, 06.22.08 @ 14:41pm

What would you call it then?

Posted by William on Sunday, 06.22.08 @ 21:28pm

Beck's gotta be in. I'm 24, and have grown up with people of all walks of life who like Beck. He's got so many personas and styles that appeal to different people at different times. He has a long, impressive body of work and definitely contributed to the era of rock that began when glam died and alternative was born.

Beck was active in the late seventies?

Posted by Liam on Tuesday, 07.15.08 @ 11:35am

I really don't think he is worthy, as of right now. To me, he's sort of like Weird Al Yankovic, except he writes both the music & the lyrics and he's trying to be serious (I assume).

I certainly think he's better than Weird Al (but that's not a high threshold, IMO).

The critics seem to like him, so he'll eventually get in. Not my cup of tea, though.

He may not be your cup of tea, but by no means he's just a throwaway novelty act. Have you ever listened to "Mutations" or "Sea Change"? There's some true bona fide songwriting there. A lot of his stuff might be eccentric, but so was Frank Zappa's.

Hi, if you agree Beck deserves to be inducted then you can't deny bands like Cake, Everclear, Presidents of the USA, Live, etc. I, for one, am all for it.

beck should be in. "Sea Change", "Guero", and "Odelay" are all incredible albums. His range from album to album is ever changing, yet his style is unmisstakable. Might not everyone's 1st choice, but his mark on music since Loser came out is hard to ignore.

I have a question for everyone who is writing off Beck as nothing more than an insignificant novelty act:

Have you followed Beck's career over the past 15 years and listened to a large portion of his material? If not, then you're obviously unaware of his insanely huge contribution and impact on what is commonly referred to as the "Alternative Revolution" of the 90's. He's one of the most electic figures to emerge from that era and has managed to remain relevant for all these years.

Anyways, putting him in the same category as Presidents of the USA and Cake is beyond idiotic.

Couldn't agree more. Beck has put out some truly great work. Even if I don't care for a particular song or album, I know he'll always have something up his sleeve the next time, and it's bound to be interesting. It's rare to find someone like that, especially in this day & age.

Tool should be in there. xD But , beck should too both musical experts

One of (if not the most) original artist of the last 20 years. He will be in, hands down.

Beck almost transcends genres when he makes songs. He can do so many things and still have that same 'Beck' feel to his music, from Cellphone's Dead to Loser to Lost Cause. Definitely influential too... the only real issue, as noted before, is popularity, although he isn't exactly anonymous within the industry.

great force in the 90s!

BECK SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Mike on Friday, 04.29.11 @ 10:11am

Beck is one of the most creative and artistically pure commercially successful acts of the last 20 years. He belongs on the Mount Rushmore of 90's rock acts along with Nirvana, Green Day, and Pearl Jam (I'm not a fan, but can't deny that they belong). The amazing thing is that perhaps Beck's best Album, Sea Change, wasn't released until 2002, well into the decade after the one he is most popularly associated with.

In my opinion, Beck has made two truly great albums so far, Odelay and Sea Change (Guero gets close as well). "Loser" off Mellow Gold is one of the iconic songs of the 90's. His other albums, though they don't rise to the level of Odelay or Sea Change, are really good and serve to demonstrate his range and staying power.

Beck is easily a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer when he is eligible. If he somehow doesn't make it, then the concept is a joke.

What influence did he have? I know that a lot of people say his is influential, but I'm not sure how.

Posted by Woop on Thursday, 10.18.12 @ 17:43pm

If you don't think he'll get in, then you pay no attention to rock music or the hall of fame process. The guy has two albums in the Rolling Stone top 500 of all time. A lot of artists in with a lot fewer. Critics love him. He has dozens of absolute fantastic songs which hit all genres like buckshot (often in the same song).

Listen to "Odelay" and "Sea Change" and "Mutations" and see what you think. The public is too stupid to get into him, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is more about critical acclaim than public popularity.

Well, he's going to close out Forecastle this year & I'll be there to see him. Am expecting him to play his best stuff, so I will evaluate him & give my opinion after.

Saw Back close out the 2014 Forecastle fest. Had been leery about him in this position, as I have never really 'got' Beck. Must say he did a great job. Much more of an entertainer (with entertaining songs) than I had previously considered him. Had a great backing band, he played guitar about 1/2 the time. Crowd was very appreciative. I'm glad I saw him & would like to see him again.

Their first record was released in 1993, which according to the Hall of Fame's rule that states the first record has to have been released at least 25 years prior, means they will not be eligible until 2018.

Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, 10.1.16 @ 00:53am

I don't think Beck will be eligible until 2018.

Unless you count his collaboration with Black Flag, he won't be eligible until 2018.

It's almost unbelievable...but theAMAZINGcool has returned AGAIN !!!

Posted by theAMAZINGcool on Wednesday, 12.28.16 @ 13:09pm

His first demo was released in 1988. That means he's been eligible since 2013.
