Radiohead is a literal lock, Beck and RATM are probably locks for the hall, Tool will be tough, but I think the voting committee will undergo enough changes to bring Tool into the hall of fame.

Sublime and Strung Out. Too bad theres no way in hell those early Fat Wreck bands like NOFX, Strung Out and Lagwagon even though they were very important to kids like me back then and are the reason the Warped Tour has been so successful all these years.

Beck, Rage Against the Machine, and Tool will probably get in.

Common, Mary J. Blige, No Doubt and Sublime are all possibilities.

TLC is a stretch.

And what about Stone Temple Pilots or Wallflowers? Dunno what'll happen to them.

I think the Verve may get quite a bit of consideration. Cracker is a sentimental choice for me.

I would think Radiohead and Tool are almost locks. STP may have some backlash against them and I am not a fan of Beck, so no comment on him.

I think the only no-brainers in this group are Radiohead and Beck. Tool & Rage Against the Machine I see getting some major support as well. Love the Verve but I don't see much support for them either. Same with Cracker. Camper van Beethoven was more influential and I doubt they will ever be seriously considered. STP? The Hall will recognize Nirvana, Pearl Jam and probably Soundgarden. I don't see any way STP gets recognized.

first of all I appreciate the fact that you apparently noticed my notes about previous years.

As regards 2017/2018, firstly, I do imagine msot of the important artists of the rap revolution will already be inducted.

I would say that Radiohead are certainties to get in on the first ballot, and Rage Against the Machine, Tool, TLC and the Verve have some chance.

It's extremely hard to predict what the status of the backlog will be this far in to the future. The way they are still nominating doo-wop groups today suggests artists like the MC5, New York Dolls and Captain Beefheart could still be getting nominations if they're not inducted between 2009/2010 and 2011/2012.

Maybe artists like Hüsker Dü that predated grunge will get considered for the first time, but this I cannot say wiht confidence. One could also see artists like Sonic Youth under more consideration, but, again, I feel I am going as far as I can looking at possible 2017/2018 inductees.

I don't know why everyone assumes Radiohead is such a lock.

From the perspective of the nominating committee, they may as well be a prog band.

They're a pretentious, one-hit-wonder act with legions of indie-geek-snobs as fans.

That sounds like exactly the sort of recipe for a band that will be ignored. There will be outrage among a small segment of nerds, and the rest of the world won't care.

Seriously, I don't even know where to begin with you Radiohead dis-ing! If you had been to a Radiohead show (and in looking at your post, there's about as much a chance of that as me at a Shania Twain show), you would see that it's difficult to fill 14,000+ seat arena's full of "indie geek snobs"

I do understand how someone doesn't "get" Radiohead...No wait, I don't!!! Seriously - Sit down and listen to "OK Computer" (and every album since) to realize what this band really is.

For some reason, Radiohead have become the band that people bash to sound like they are "music elite" - I would just say to stop listening to the negative crap you have heard about Radiohead and just listen to them!

In any case, These guys are a lock!!

Unfortunately, I HAVE seen Radiohead live. I got dragged to an REM show years ago where they opened. The first word that comes to mind is haughty. I have several more words; none of them complementary. The irony here is that I thought Creep was an awesome song – it may be trendy but I still like it to this day (except for the bridge, where the vocals just become insufferably whiny). I HAVE listened. The drummer in my band is a fan, so I get them forced on me, like it or not.

Ultimately, though, whether I like them or not is every bit as irrelevant as whether you like them or not. Neither of us are voters. And that goes back to my original point. History has shown that the voters, much to your dismay and my relief, aren’t going to induct a band like Radiohead any time soon. If they won’t induct an act like Rush or Yes, why would Radiohead stand a chance?

Well, here we are in 2017 - The Cleveland Browns have finally won a super bowl, gasoline is about 6.50 a gallon, and the rock & roll hall is finally inducting the folks you expected. It all started around 2011 when the voting board started to slightly change. Rush, Purple, Genesis, all started to get in around that time. The Stooges also made it in. Oh, the sure locks also got in - GNR on the first ballot, Nirvana on the first ballot. They're hashing out who should be in for 2017. You see, Rage Against the Machine has threatened to boycott the ceremony unless everyone surrenders their expensive dinners to the needy, but a select few are suggesting that if Thom Yorke is allowed to have extra, Radiohead might start singing happy songs. The big question here - the needy or the artistic.

Let's move on, shall we.

Radiohead is a no brainer. They're one of the most popular bands around right now, not to mention how well received OK Computer, in Rainbows, and Kid A were (as well as most of their other albums).

Beck is one of the most successful and eclectic solo acts around. Not to mention he's had quite a few hit songs like "Loser," "Where It's At," and "E-Pro."

Tool also has a really high chance. Like Radiohead and Beck, they're very popular (not as popular, though). They're also one of the most technically talented bands on the list (Danny Carey is one of modern rock's best drummers, Maynard James Keenan is considered to be a great vocalist, I love the bass and guitar work as well).

I can see Rage, Buckethead, and Dr. Dre getting it, too.

I'd like to see Cracker and Sugar get it, but they're really side projects of more deserving bands.

I know where you're coming from w/this, and I'm not sure myself who would count as a guaranteed pick either. I do happen to think all three will go in. Whether they go in on the first ballot is something else. They just might if the committee has changed in the intervening yrs. between now & 2017. It is an outside possibility.

A few artists here are worthy but won't get in on this ballot: Stone Temple Pilots (too much critical bashing when they first came out; No Doubt will probably get the nod over them) and TLC come to mind. Similarly, Sublime has a devent shot of getting in, but won't make it this time. Tool is another band which will probably get some love, but not enough for this year (good thing too, since I hate Tool). I personally admire The Verve, but they didn't have enough success stateside ("Bittersweet Symphony" was their only major US hit) to get in.

I may be one of the few people who think STP does have a shot. They may have initially sounded like a Pearl Jam or Alice knock off band, but down the line they showed they had some originality. The "Tiny Music" album in 96 had some great jazzy cuts mixed in, and some psychedelic styled stuff as well. I'd like to believe they have a shot.

I think STP is a fine group & certainly should be considered for induction. There are 30 or 40 of my 'pet peeve' bands that should (IMO) be inducted before STP, but they have a case.

Being a fan of Stone Temple Pilots myself, I agree that they did show some originality down the road and I think that they have a legitimate chance of being inducted some day. However, a lackluster critical reputation, even if it was only early on, can ruin candidacies; look at Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, and Deep Purple, for example. Therefore, I don't think STP have a shot on this ballot. They will later, but not this time.

Radiohead are an absolute lock, though I'm not the biggest fan. I'm not sure whether RATM should get in but they probably will. Likewise, I like STP but I don't think they're important enough for induction (they may get in eventually if they keep going but not first-ballot, as I don't think there's been enough of a turn-around from the critical disdain they got originally.) The Verve? Maybe, but no chance, as they're a one-hit wonder in the US. Suede should absolutely be inducted, but they didn't really accomplish anything in the US and are too British for this Nominating Commitee (not to mention they haven't even nominated any British Indie yet), so no real chance unless there's a slight regime change. Likewise, I'm pulling for Tool, but they're very prog and metal-like, two styles which the Hall doesn't like to acknowledge. Has Dr. Dre done enough on his own to be inducted?

Sam - While I don't care for the turn that Green Day has taken in this last decade (even though I don't think American Idiot was that bad, just way overplayed), there stuff from the 90's is great. Dookie is one of the best albums of the 1990's and one of the best punk albums of all time. Also as of now they probably are the last great punk band. Your other predictions look good except I would put Public Enemy into the lock category. I really think it is going to be interesting to see what happens in the future. I think the Pixies get in even with Sonic Youth, The Replacements & Husker D. I think you are slowly going to see a change in the make up of the nominating committee to younger critics that are going to be more in supportive of college/alt/indie rock. You all ready see this will Rolling Stone promoting more of this music. I think Metal, heavy music and Prog will always have it tough, unfortunately.

Ace of Base: Well they inducted ABBA, but I very much doubt they'll induct A of B
Annie Lennox: Nope, but the Eurythmics have a shot
Arrested Development: Yeah right
Beck: Not first ballot, but he'll get in
Blind Melon: Can't see it happening
The Bottle Rockets: Uncle Tupelo has a better shot and they have almost no shot
Buckethead: I don't think so, but first ballot in a Guitarist Hall of Fame
Common: In rap circles he would get in, but he's too much of a footnote for the Hall of Fame
Cracker: No chance, Camper Van Beethoven has a much better shot
Dr. Dre: He's likely getting in, but as a Performer or Non-Performer for his production work?

No Doubt - This depends on them ever coming out of their neverending hiatus and releasing something new. Is being the most notable band of the ska revival enough?
R. Kelly - Has undergone somewhat of a critical rehabilitation, if he stays out of trouble I see his stock rising greatly.
Sublime - Are 3 albums enough?
Stone Temple Pilots - Certainly a memorable and influential band, but they need a helluva critical turnaround before they get a shot.
TLC - Similar to Sublime actually, except those three albums are way better and more important.
