  KING,

IMO both Sammy and Dave are appropriately covered by the van halen induction. for my view, a solo acts has gotta transcend their work with a band/s. Lee Roth and Hagar are awesome solo but neither go beyond VH.

the 3 Beatles (Ringo was AME), Rod Stewart, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, all absolutely transcend Faces/Velvets/Genesis/Beatles, hence are all double inductees.

previous nominee, Sting does not transcend the police imo but he's pretty borderline, a warranted nomination that may occur at some point.

Winwood was a journey man like Rod, I'm glad he went in with Traffic cause his solo career is not as wide ranging to get a hall induction just off that

Robert Plant is a fantastic example of someone who's solo career DOES NOT transcend his prior band, and would be a foolish double inductee, will never be nominated on his own.

Stevie Nicks solo is like Sting, borderline but I have zero issue with her solo induction like I've seen some other people do

Would like to see Sammy Hagar earn a 2nd Induction for his work in Montrose and solo artist work. He's very likable and enjoys his life. I think he's also very respected in the Rock world. Some good points that there aren't many solo artists in heavy metal who would be sure fire Inductees. It was smart for the Committee to nominate Ozzy. I think he earns induction. David Lee Roth is an interesting name. He had a good run during Eat Em And Smile and Skyscraper. Incredible and dynamic type personality.

LL Cool J very well would have been inducted as eventually as a a Performer and it's unknown to most of us expect a very few but I am sure Todd Rundgren got the final spot over him in the Performers category as they didn't want to fullly exclude Classic Rock in the Performers spot

Judas Priest unfortunately had little to no shot to get in as a Performers and probably were always bound to be a Musical Excellence inductee

  ^^ "Top 5" WTF I meant top 10... LOL

Anyway, I don't know why my thoughts keep changing. This definitely was a hard list to figure out. A lot of us could be wrong on who goes in.

The way I look at it, the ones that seemed to be locks (or should be) are:
Cher
Lenny
Foreigner
Kool and the Gang
Mariah is in the "SHOULD BE A LOCK" list (only reason I kept her out of here is because I'm nervous)

----
I think I've been kinda clear on that. After that, I don't know.

We have biases, the history of the Hall and how it votes for minority artists (women, urban artists) that makes it difficult to figure out. Also, there's never been a class where only the first ballot nominees get in.

So I'm expecting a mostly first ballot class with two previous nominees.

In this case, it would be:
Mary J. Blige (2nd)
Jane's Addiction (2nd)
Dave Matthews Band (2nd)
A Tribe Called Quest (3rd)
Eric B and Rakim (2nd)

Everyone else:
Sinead, Mimi, Cher, Lenny, Foreigner, Oasis, Kool & the Gang, Sade, Ozzy

Are first ballot nominees. And all first year nominees as opposed to first year eligible (even Oasis isn't FYE).

Too many scenarios can happen here.

Let's say the surefire locks are the ones I picked. Who will round it out if there were two previous nominees. I think that's why I've been a bit bullish about Mary's chances. She could go in and this can continue the Hall's three women a year class. But who will be the seventh??? Tough decision.

DMB could be the 7th just so they could make up for 2020.
Or Jane's Addiction somehow defies all odds and be the shocker of this and get in (a'la Rage Against the Machine).
Or any of the two rap acts make a stab at it.

I have to be honest guys, this is one class I'm stumped on!!! "Boring list" my ass LOL

Thats why if IDK The Smiths get Musical Excellence some how in 2024 I wouldn't rule that out

From the 1999 list, 45 of the 100 women are currently in the RRHOF. But in the list I saw, Sade is below Whitney at number 66, Cher is 43. Mariah is not on this list so I don't know which list you saw, Rialb lol

From the 2012 list, I only counted 5 of the women that got inducted and 3 of them are in the top 5:

Madonna (1)
Whitney Houston (6)
Janet Jackson (7)

Then:
Annie Lennox - Eurythmics (22)
Sheryl Crow (25)

The rest are from artists mostly still ineligible for induction with only a few who have passed the year of eligibility.

Also interesting to note, Mariah's not in the 1999 list but she's number 2 in the 2012 list. Mary J. Blige is also not on the list from 99 but in the 2012 list, she's number 9.

  Ralib,

Yeah I saw Sade being listed that high (which is incredible, really). They're actually higher than Whitney (61) in that list. But I'm sure the numbers would have reversed by now had VH1 decided to make a new list now because Sade hasn't been much in the spotlight in the last 14 years. But also, I think it can get confusing because the media and the industry are split in how to present them: either as the front woman being a solo artist with a backing band or as the band itself (in reality, they're the latter, rather than the former). And that could definitely lead to voters being confused.

As for the listings of the non-inductees on that list, that's always the trick question: you just never know what might happen. All indicators do have Mariah likely being a first ballot inductee but who really knows? I would be lying to say I was surprised by Mariah's position but this came at the end of the 90s so it's understandable she'd be that low. If VH1 was to do a list now, Whitney and Mariah would likely be somewhere, if in not the top 5, top 10 at least by now.
