Why is there even an option. Tom Petty is....Tom Petty. He HAS to be inducted!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing songwriter.

No use of inducting him twice. He's already in with the Heartbreakers and that's that. I don't even think the Hof committee will consider him an eligible artist in the future. Did some albums on his own every now and then. As far as I got it, the Tom Petty catalogue was rewarded together with the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers catalogue. Really makes no difference to me.
Why not induct Elvis Costello a second time, once we're at it? It would just be a waste of space, since there are so many deserving artists waiting in line.

So much of Petty's good stuff has the Heartbreakers all over it that I can't see enough of his solo work as being worthy enough for the Hall. It would be like saying Keith Richards had spent 20+ yrs. w/the Stones only so he could get in w/ the X-Pensive Winos. Petty's doing just fine in the Hall w/the Heartbreakers.

And enough about this Coven crap now! Clearly their is not enough material to justify a Hall induction, and were getting completely off-track w/all the talk of who invented what sign. I did not come to this site for a hand job.

What is most likely TP's best known song came out of his solo work("Free Fallin'"), but he's already in and thankfully with his band.(I really just don't won't to talk about surf music now.)

Don't want is what I meant.

Tom Petty actually has a slight chance just because of what an album Full Moon Fever was. One of those albums that could be all an artist needs to get in. I don't think he will though.

If that's the case, then Meat Loaf should've been inducted his first year of eligibility for Bat Out Of Hell alone.

Again, I think there's a chance that could have happened. I think in Meat Loaf's case, they were busy trying to get AC/DC and a few others in, so that ruined it. We'll see who the favored horses are when Petty solo is eligible, not that I seriously think he's gonna even get nominated, but just that the chance isn't necessarily as slim as it first seems.

Was it really necessary to put (solo) next to his name? No other artist on this site got this treatment! I think everyone knows that there's Tom Petty and there's Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Please remove the (solo) from next to his name.

His name is Tom Petty, not Tom Petty (solo)

Why did they induct the Heartbreakers when they could've waited until 2014 and inducted him as a soloist?

His major hits as a solo artist were "Won't Back Down", "Running Down A Dream", and "Free Fallin'". I don't think Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) would be as recognizable without the last three songs made. I mean, these were the three of the four songs played during their Superbowl half time performance!!!

(They began the performance with "American Girl")

This page is needless and should be deleted. For all intents and purposes, Tom Petty's solo work had to have been taken into account when he was inducted w/ the Heartbreakers. Tracks from 'Full Moon Fever' are even the 'Essential songs' section of their Rock Hall profile page. Elvis Costello same deal. End of discussion.

Frankly, I'm not sure he/they deserve induction without considering "Full Moon Fever" and "Wildflowers".

Posted by Chalkie on Thursday, 02.23.12 @ 20:46pm

Again, I can't stress enough the needlessness of this page.

Actually, I am stunned That he has just become eligible. It seems like he has been putting out hits longer than 25 years. Definately deserves it.

Elena,

Tom Petty is already in with the Heartbreakers, And all three of his solo albums (Full Moon Fever,Wildflowers and Highway Companion) feature musical assistance from one or more of the Heartbreakers.

Tom Petty is a Rock N Roll legend!! Why isn't he in the Hall of Fame yet??? I see so many icon bands, that aren't in there yet.... They should have been in there by now.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are in the HoF. This page is for Tom Petty's work without the Heartbreakers.
